GTA VI Information & Discussion thread

Not much going on at the moment unsurprisingly, officially the game doesn't even exist but that hasn't stopped the "leaks" and rumours.

Existence: TBC
Release date: TBA

System Requirements: TBA

There have been lots of fun rumours about GTA VI. The most credible one imo at the moment is the map location and date set. A couple of years ago, this map was posted on 4chan along with "9teen8t5" (1985). Back then it got dismissed as being nonsense immediately due to the crude drawing, but more recently it does make a lot of sense.

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/586213212412706818/775737978567262228/unknown.png

It appears to be Miami based along with what appears to be a Cuba based and Bahamas based islands.

Now, why I think this is the most credible leak of  GTA VI, is it was released 2 years ago. Between then and now, Rockstar have released this image on their website which is heavily inspired by the 1980s artwork from Hajime Sorayama.

Rockstar Games' new artwork sparks GTA 6 speculation - VideoGamer.com

Around the same time as the map leak, Rockstar released a bunch of vehicles that would fit right in, in 1980s Miami into GTA Online such as the Ubermacht Sentinel Classic (1986 BMW M3), Grotti Cheetah Classic (1984 Ferrari Testarossa), Grotti Tursimo (1987 Ferrari F40), Declasse Tampa (1970 Dodge Dart), Pegassi Torero (1982 Lamborghini Countach) and Ocelot Stromberg (1978 Lotus Esprit). Rockstar have also put out an advert relatively recently looking for bands who play "80s style music".

Onto the Cuba part. Back in March. There were rumours of a game from Rockstar set in central America or one of the islands in the Caribbean sea so far just known internally as "Project Americas" Now it's not confirmed if that's an actual thing Rockstar are doing, but given the map leak from 2 years ago that shows it set in map heavily inspired by Miami with an island quite far south east, it does add up. I do think that island is a condensed Cuba given the location as well as Rockstars love for movies. Maybe it's going to have a Scarface inspired story? It does look like they're including a Bahamas style island as well just east of the main island in the leaked map.

I do think Rockstar are going to officially announce GTA VI sometime Q2/Q3 2021 given this is exactly how it went down with both GTA V and RDR2. The next 12 months is going to be a lot of fun for fans of the GTA franchise.

Very interesting. I've never really been one for speculation about games and that sort of thing, but this is pretty reasonable. I remember talking with a friend at least a year or two ago about possible cities they could use for GTA VI, and there are a few fun ones if they wanted to go global like Tokyo, and get some of that Japanese car culture going. Regardless, I look forward to following this one, the 80's theme is interesting.

A GTA set in London is also something a lot of people want, but Rockstar have said a few years ago that they don't see themselves making a GTA set outside of the US. I would be interested in seeing a GTA set in an Asian country though. The closest we have to that is Sleeping Dogs which isn't quite as good as the GTA franchise.

Yeah I think we toyed with the idea of London in that conversation as well.

I did think of Sleeping Dogs. First PC game I played after building my first computer, thanks for that, AMD. I really enjoyed it actually, but I have a weird feeling that it's one of those games that, if I went back to play it, I would think it's actually kind of mediocre. I'll just leave it as a positive memory. Thought I've only played IV and V, I can tell GTA singleplayer sets a really high bar regardless.

hopefully they stop the staggered console/PC launch trend, hard to get excited for a game when you see other people play/talk about it for 6-18 months before you can even touch it.

I would really like it, but I doubt that will happen. It's a strategy that's been working for them since 2001, I don't see them changing it. Too many people end up buying the game twice that way. Or in the case of GTA V, three times.

I've been on board with the idea of a GTA set in London for years. For me, it would be the novelty of driving on the other side of the road as an extra layer of difficulty, although it would probably become second nature rather quickly. I'd also like in-game pedestrians bringing slang like git, plonker, bellend, and wanker to a global audience.

If you can get an emulator working, there's always The Getaway series. https://thegetaway.fandom.com/wiki/The_Getaway_(series)

There's only two games though and they're not quite as open as the GTA series and the stories aren't as long, but it's still worth playing imo. It's a shame The Getaway 3 got cancelled because Sony told the developers to focus on Eyetoy games as those were bringing in more money at the time. The Getaway 3 was meant to be set in London, Liverpool and Amsterdam.
