PlayStation 5 Fan Lottery Responsible for Noisier Consoles

Recommended Posts

Quote

Sony has been installing different cooling fans on the PlayStation 5 (PS5), French tech website Les Numériques reports. The outlet noticed a difference in the noise exhibited by two different PS5s, one being a review unit Sony provided and the other a unit they purchased.  Les Numériques proceeded to disassemble several PS5s and found five different fans in five different consoles.

While we see this often, finding 5 different fans in 5 different consoles is worrying. That is a lot of variation. However, assuming the quietest fan model is identified, you can always purchase the part and pop it into your PS5 replacing the noisy one.

Should you have to ? No. But when parts become available, you have the option if you are happy to void the warranty or wait until it expires.

Seems like something that will get ironed out pretty quickly. No surprise that there is variation in fans, that is common for any device with a fan. Probably just slipped through the cracks with QA.

Did the entire shroud design also fall through the QA? If you watch the tear down on GN it shows pretty clearly that the cover causes heat issues. They had to have known.

Common for different fans/shrouds to be used... so I guess the answer to your question is yes.

A buddy of mine managed to snag one and it ended up bricked a few days later.

Another buddy has constant reboots and freezes with the console.

I don't know Jim but being an Early adopter today is like signing up for Alpha software.
