Hello all, It is my pleasure to announce that @pio & @LabRat are the new owners and operators of ExtremeHW. Please join me in welcoming them to their new role and wishing them the best of luck for the future. I will be sure to check in and see what you have done with the place All the best, E22 points

Thank you @ENTERPRISE. It is our pleasure to continue the site, we can't let the place die. It needs to continue going as expected, and grow. So let's see if we can't make that happen within a year or two.12 points

It looks like this is the final folding blowout for EXTREMEHW. I need to go ahead and say a few words. First of all, this site has been a blast for me. I'm thankful for @ENTERPRISE inviting me here from overclock.net. Thanks to @BWG for getting me, just an enthusiast overclocker, interested in some crazy stress test benchmark called folding@home. Thanks to @Avacado @axipher @zodac @firedfly for getting me up to speed on that so I could help take over for BWG as I stumbled and fumbled through the learning. We had some very good foldathons and put up some huge numbers for such a small team. Thanks to EVERYONE who folded with us at EXTREMEHW. Some of you were very dedicated up until the very end, crunching the hell out of some work units. I also had a good time benching with you fellow overclockers on HWBOT. Also as a very small team we put up insane numbers and collected a ton of cups and medals. Where do we go from here? Well I'm still active on the techpowerup.com forums. I plan on folding for them as a regular team member and I plan on joining their hwbot team. I invite all of you to follow me over there, as it's one of the last good PC tech forums still alive. For those heading elsewhere or retiring, I hope we meet again! - Luke11 points

Funny reading some of the posts but as others have said, definitely still an enthusiast in lots of I.T aspects and not necessarily just tweaking and overclocking. Still love to tweak and play and actually really enjoy server and storage solutions the last few years. Really enjoyed building my TrueNas server more recently. So yes still just as enthusiastic about tech, but life goals are different now and community management no longer fits within my aspirations Definitely good to have the site continued by fellow enthusiasts. It is important that owners of communities live and breath the same core goals. It lends to success no doubt. I will of course be popping my head in from time to time for some reading and help.9 points

PM'ed again E (well....on discord). Sigh, I might not know the first thing about web site running, but turns out I will be needing a website anyway, similar to this one. Similar freaking name even. Sigh, time to research and get out the wallet maybe. I'm still researching and trying to learn what all this extra crap is that you're paying for, and what all I need to learn to make this happen and be successful. Definitely don't want to just purchase, and then be stuck with a dead site that I can't do anything with because I'm stupid. EDIT: Nobody hold me to this. I'll repeat, I don't even really know HTML coding. But I can't just sit by and let this happen, when I'm going to be needing a site this year anyway that's similar.....and we've ALL already put so much effort in here. Just yeah. I'm overwhelmed still and thinking.9 points

Hello all. We shall endeavor to be the most benevolent of your new overlords. Thanks for the support; I look forward to seeing all of you (and new faces), on the regular.8 points

Question is...... Who wants to see it happen? I'll buy it right now (assuming price is negotable), if we can just get the OG's to come back and hang out and share what they were doing again. Keep the hwbot team going, keep the folding stuff going, get the reviews going back up again. Once profit comes through, maybe offer prizes again. I don't want to see what we've worked so hard all these years to end. It might take me a bit of time to figure out everything E was doing, but I'd love nothing more than to see, I don't know 6 months or 1 year ago activity back. I don't think that's asking much. I think there's tons of room for improvement here, and I think with the base group of folks that were here.....we can do it. What's everybody say? I can't run the site all by myself, put content, post news, etc all by myself afterall. But I'll do my best to make the changes EHW needs to keep going and TRY my best to drum up more membership as well as new owner. I honestly do see the value in a place like this, and I don't think it needs much change at all to become more successful. I have no problem making this my 9-5 if I have help to do so.8 points

Good evening everyone (or morning / day / whenever you see this)! Unfortunately our community has been hit with a giant spam attack today. We are not the only Invision community to have been hit by this type of attack in recent months apparently and it is still an ongoing attack on Invision communities. We are working on rolling the site back to this morning, so the spam can be removed. We're implementing the appropriate fixes right now on the back end. Hopefully, with any luck, this should be resolved moving forward. Please accept our apologies. The moderation team now has DIRECT contact information to both myself and the site owner in case this happens again in the future. Changes made so far: "Announcements" page on discord has been removed from general users temporarily to avoid spamming everyone's phones Spam protection on site has been changed to different levels than previous Currently registered spammers have been removed and banned Site has been rolled back to working status Normally for the end users of course, this information would typically be hidden. Well you guys know me, and I am just an end user. So in the effort of full transparency, there's where we're at. Thank you, ~Management7 points

Update: So huge thanks to @ENTERPRISEover these last few weeks. Thanks to troubleshooting, and tickets being sent galore to everywhere, we believe we might FINALLY have our logins working for the site functions behind the scenes. This was a google issue, not a handover issue guys. Anyway, figured I'd do a quick site update here for you guys. The plan from here: We want to get all site functions back online. Site donations are priority #1 so we can restore people's premium membership roles. After that is ticked off the list and functioning, we want to tackle the Etsy store, and perhaps add some more things into that store. Also a huge huge shoutout to everybody who signed up to help out as staff on the site and discord. Seriously you guys all ROCK!!!!! We will be doing another round of hiring once things are added back to the site and as we grow. I am TRYING to keep a list of all current staff members on the new staff discord (staff only). Once I'm confident that list is accurate, I'll post it publicly on site so everybody knows who everybody is and what the roles are. PLEASE IF YOU ARE STAFF AND NOT IN THAT DISCORD SEND ME A DM. I'M NEW HERE. This transition has been rough for everybody for sure. But I'm super hopeful guys and gals, we're receiving a lot more positive feedback than we were anticipating from this venture! And like I've stated, its management's position that we'll be reinvesting into the community. So hopefully we'll see some great things in the coming years! We literally ARE one of a kind here at EHW. There's literally not another site like it on the internet. ~Management7 points

I'd like to announce the first ever official EHW youtuber that's been sponsored. If there's any interest from anybody about learning video editing things, he's amazing. This first video (with the sponsorship) wasn't really meant to be edited and produced, but he had fun doing it so whatever. He was excited to announce it, so we're excited to as well. Him and the youtubing community mirror EHW's core beliefs of helping people learn new things and "pushing it to the limit". What a better way than to sponsor an up and coming youtube star? No, won't be spamming the website with videos. Just the one to introduce him. If he decides to upload them, he's welcome to post his youtube videos under Member Content. Otherwise he'll probably just keep to the youtube platform. Huge HUGE shoutout to @EctorPlays. Thank you, ~Management7 points

^ It's a shame Asus seems to keep churning out overpriced products that don't live up to expectations. Wish we still had EVGA in the enthusiast motherboard space. As for my most recent purchases.... Just snagged a Gigabyte GA-X79-UP4 Mobo with an i7-4930K CPU + 32GB RAM for an upcoming HWBot comp Grabbed an open box RTX 5060 Ti 16GB from Microcenter for Folding@home. The PCB is hilariously tiny. I'm going to watercool it for fun and will post some pics when I do. Also picked up an Optane 905P to replace the tired boot drive in my sim rig. I have some EXTREMELY special updates for that rig in the works.6 points

The 50 series for me brings the following to mind. 1. Refresh generation offering little in actual performance gains. Forget MFG, DLSS etc. 2. Hideous design flaws, one would go as far as negligence. The 12VHPWR is an absolute joke in general but Nvidia decided to double down and make it even worse with their power delivery design. Most AIB's are taking the lazy way out and STILL not addressing the design issues, even though they have the power to do so. I understand there are small margins for GPU's but I would like to see more AIB's take responsibility for their consumers sake. This point alone would make me hesitant to put a 50 series card in my PC. 3. Buggy drivers. Unsure what is going on with Nvidia at the moment, but producing drivers that affect not only the 50 series but 40 and 30 series is embarrassing, especially with continuous releases still showing problems. 4. Hotspot reading removal. In my opinion Nvidia did this to hide something they are not keen on sharing. Tells you all you need to know. 5. Pricing. While I understand they have little competitions, Nvidia still didn't have to punish gamers with astronomical pricing. Nvidia doesn't care anymore about the crowd that made them. 6. Disingenuous marketing. Sure, we expect companies to make products look attractive. The 50 series however has a marketing campaign designed to cover for 50 series being fairly underwhelming as a product with bullshit claims such as the 5070 = 4090 and similar. You can't polish a turd. I really enjoy Nvidia products but they really have fallen from grace this round, its been a growing issue for ages but the 50 series just takes the piss. Nvidia have cut corners at virtually every avenue and then tried to sell it as the single wonder of the universe. Fortunately most have seen through it. While im still very happy with my 3090, If I were upgrading today It would likely be a 9070XT or AMD successor to that if they continue their improved trajectory. I just can't justify the insanity anymore. Im willing to bet Nvidia will double down again on the 60 series in some form. Nvidia knows right from wrong regarding design etc, but ultimately they don't care IMHO.6 points

I don't get why everyone thinks they are going to be a photo or video editor these days and thinks they need a crazy workstation to do so. When you learn to drive, most people don't go out and buy an F350 dually as a first vehicle just in case they might need to tow something someday. Get a 7800X3D or 9800X3D. If your PC doesn't make you money, there is no reason to bother with anything else. For gaming either of those CPUs will be amazing. For photo/video editing they will also be plenty fast. Especially for someone that's just dabbling in it. Get the cheaper motherboard. You won't notice a difference in performance and the money would be better spent elsewhere. If that "maybe" turns into a reality and they start editing regularly and it becomes a priority that would benefit from a CPU upgrade, the X3D chips will always be in high demand. So you could easily sell it and grab a Zen 6 chip when those come out.6 points

Lol it was fun staying up till 3am to see the midweek madness price drops on B-stock. Very sad to see EVGA out of the game. I always had the least amount of issues with their products and the very few instances I needed to deal with customer support, it was the best of any of the manufactures I've dealt with. Obviously, we'll welcome anybody from the EVGA forums with open arms. Things are a little slow over here currently, but we're trying to keep the forum experience alive.6 points

AMD’s new integrated graphics are almost 70% faster than an RTX 4070 WWW.DIGITALTRENDS.COM AMD's upcoming Strix Halo flagship looks insane, outclassing a mobile RTX 4070 by nearly 70% in some games. Of course AMD would be concentrating on their integrated graphics solutions, but holy cow. This should be great news for laptop users!6 points

So I went digging and found all the remaining EHW stickers I have. I had these printed before the official merch store opened and have given them away as folding prizes on several occasions. By now just about everyone that folds regularly or I've shipped anything to has received one. If anyone doesn't have one and would like one, slide into my DM's.6 points

So I guess I never did a build log for this... Around 2020 I gave my sister a build I did for fun just so she had a desktop computer... It was an i7 6700 with an OG GTX Titan when I built it, but I swapped the watercooled Titan for a 980 Ti since I knew she wouldn't maintain a custom loop. No pics of what I sent her off with, but here's what it looked like with the Titan. It was in a windowless black Fractal Define Nano S. A solid little system at the time, but it was never cute enough for her even after covering it with stickers. A while ago Cooler Master wanted us to review an SFX PSU. I said I'd do it if they sent along a Pink NR200 to review along with it... They had just discontinued the pink and so I was sent a white version instead. For anybody interested Here's the review of the PSU/Case. After the review, I built her a bit of an upgrade. i5 12500 GTX 1070 32GB Trident Z Royal Crucial P3 Plus 2TB Thermalright SI-100 CM NR200P wrapped with sparkle blue vinyl That has served her well the last couple years. She still doesn't game much but was interested in trying Hogwarts Legacy. Figured that might be a little too much for the ole 1070. As well as Nvidia starting to phase out support for Pascal. Figured it was time for a bit of an upgrade. I just happened to be in Tampa for work last week, so I stopped by her new place and swapped in an RTX 3060 Ti.5 points

How's it going everyone? I was just sitting here, chatting with @LabRat and a few of my friends that are here. I realized something quite important. I don't have the foggiest idea of who's staff on the site we now run! That said, its also been a while since all of the staff positions were even made and filled. So, here's everybody's chance to step up! Here's what we need. We need ALL EXISTING STAFF members to please post here and let us know if you want to continue helping out. Editors, news, content creators, discord moderators, everybody. If I don't hear from you, I'm going to assume that you're no longer interested in remaining as staff and you will be replaced. We definitely need: Discord moderators News Editors / posters Right now, the main focus is just keeping the site functioning. So as of right now, we do NOT need reviewers or other content creators. If you'd like to do reviews, please use the Amateur Reviews section. That IS where we'll be seeking new review talents later on (existing review staff of course will be welcomed back once we pick up again). The rest of the site functions will be slowly returning as we dive into the backend of the site and getting everything switched over. But I think getting the community actually all onboard is probably a good first step here. So please, let us know here in the thread if you'd like to (continue to) be staff and what positions. Thank you, ~Management5 points

Was thinking about this, we could even advertise that the site is owned and operated by a member of the community. Looking back I think @pioand @LabRat are the best possible guys that could have taken on the challenge of bringing the site back from the brink of death. IMO we saved a piece of tech history and I am going to be happy to watch the site grow and progress into the future. I think we have a really great thing here and I hope we can bring some new members on board too and really get a growing community going again.5 points
-
Those sites have full time paid staff. EHW does not so that's one big reason why. It also used to be true that tech news was more obscure and spread out but now there are at least a dozen sites that are alway up to date on tech news. OCN filled a gap with the news that no longer exists. With that said, I agree the news section is crucial here, which is why I've focused on posting news the whole time I've been here. Would be great to have more people consistently posting news.5 points

We are aware of new users not receiving confirmation emails. This is a bug from the site ownership transfer. We are working on a fix for this. Enterprise is also going above and beyond in helping us through this transition, he's more aware of where the problem lies at this point since we're just getting the logins today. There is a fix, it's being worked on. Please accept our apologies to any new members, it will be fixed soon. Thank you for understanding. ~Management5 points

The Etsy shop will continue, no worries there. Might take us a bit to get everything back going, but we're getting there slowly. There's strict rules at Etsy, that's why that wasn't transferred. We will be getting that back up, the donations button working again, and the site is going to continue AS IS for a while.....while we transition and figure all this new stuff out. We're also already partnered with a few youtubers as well, that might be popping in to help as well, depending on their skill levels and such.5 points

Those guys went to Hardware-Reaktor-Reloaded which is one of the top teams with a lot of extreme league members. It's great that you're having fun at TPU. Being a big fish in a small pond is probably more enjoyable than being on a team of extreme and elite members for HWBot. As for folding, I know you like being on their pie chart and seeing all the emojis on their points updates over at TPU firedfly and I are currently folding for HardOCP, but there's no guarantee we wouldn't come back to EHW to run the foldathons.5 points

In for the last hurrah then back to TPU to watch Big Red pass me a ludicrous speed. I have to admit that of all the teams I have folded for this was the most fun. No, the entire HWBot team did not go to TPU, that's not really fair to say. Same with F@H. Lot of the big hitters did not go to TPU.4 points

Hello guys, Back in September I made these to try to help out and because E had a bounty for tutorials. Unfortunately, with what he's going through, he doesn't have time to review them and post them to the Official Extremehw YouTube channel but we didn't want my work going to waste so it's here. I hope this helps anyone looking to dual boot Linux, fold on it, etc. The Firefox one could be applied to Firefox under Windows as well. Hope this helps.4 points

So I got a good deal on a CPU I wasn't planning on buying Epyc 4564P which is basically a 7950X. I want to grab an X870E Nova whenever those are back in stock then I'll toss this in my main rig. I still want a 9800X3D at some point, but I'll wait until they go on sale. It's not on the supported CPU list for the Gene, but works fine4 points
