You're right insofar as it is a moral question not to sub bugged runs. That said, what about cards which don't have ECC capability (or even the toggle for ECC on/off). That includes some new models and that is the skewing of results I was referring to earlier as those can still sub bugged runs. Perhaps NVidia will fire back with driver or vbios updates, because over a 125,000 4090s have been sold so far. I am particularly incensed at the personalities involved behind all this...but enough about this farce. The RTX 4090 is the first card I know of that can 'outrun' its VRAM, the latter becoming a bottleneck. Still, mine is set to 24 Gpbs / ECC now. ...yeah, the 12VHPR connector is beginning to grow on me (apart from the 4-into-1 dongle version). I received another 12VHPWR one today at no charge from Seasonic; both are 600W and thick-gauge wiring, along with strong sleeving / insulation...the Seasonic 12VHPWR is black though; for now, I am happy with the white Cablemod version...

Thanks Bastiaan . Per my previous post, I have a few bugged runs w/ artefacts (marked as such) which of course I did not sub at 3DMark...I haven't even subbed the other ones yet. As to that HWBot / 3DMark ECC 'change' via Systeminfo, it is an absolute farce that makes management of both look bad, IMO, just because a few of the HWBot Elite benchers with corporate sponsorship got usurped. HWbot has had all kinds of bugged runs submitted (often by the same folks who are now complaining) for years and years. 'Special' NVInspector versions with LOD settings beyond what the normal NVI has, that sort of thing. Even recently, I have seen vids of subs by top HWBot benchers that were basically just blob shapes with no detail (3DM 06). I am glad that I don't have to put up with that anymore. As to the artefacts, sometimes you get way higher scores (examples above, marked with 'artefacts'), often though, artefacts lower the score. With the changes HWBot and 3DMark now introduces, they have skewed the whole thing re. older GPUs and subs. Good riddance... On a happier note, I had a bit of time to clean up the conversion of the 3090 to the 4090 per pics below...pic quality will be improved upon ! ...and speaking of pic quality, FS2020 w/DLSS3 maxing the C1 OLED 4K/120

@Bastiaan_NL& Co - I think I figured that 4090 Gigabyte Gaming OC out...biggest issue was VRAM that was cooled too well by my thermal putty magic (stays at below 40 C w/ water block), but I found a way to raise it a few degrees relative to the GPU core before that one starts to drop speed bins. Below is sort of a collage of scores and monitoring tabs...note that the two Port Royal results in the blue box on the right don't really count (artefacts) though are tagged 'valid' by 3DM...

...in relative terms, it was (unlike necessary peripherals such as X670 mobos)...but then the 13900 Raptor Lake came along...

'grats on the 4090 - it can do so much more than epeen. As to eye sight and 4K120 monitor, that's precisely the point. If you get a big (say 42, 48 or larger) OLED, you'll have a lot more options for setting it up in a way that works better for your specific visual needs. That said, putting a new CPU, mobo, RAM, graphics card and monitor together and tuning it might best be deferred for when you feel a bit better.

In our market, both the 7950X and 5950X have come down as well, but the 7950X is only ~ $50 more than the 5950X, while the 5800X3D is mostly sold out . Also, my CH8 X570 Dark Hero has gone up by about $100...looks like AM4 still has some legs
-
...ignoring need vs want, what kind of monitor are you planning to drive with the GPU ? If it's 4K120(+), go for the 4090. FYI, I just did my weekly check of 4090s available in the Great White North at four major online/bricks-and-mortar retailers, and there were none available. Caseking.de in Germany had one (Zotac)...besides, you can always resell it to Pook for a nice mark-up...

Since I water-cooled the 4090, I am making some interesting discoveries - these cards are very different than the previous gen. For example, the GDDR6X chips really like to be cozy, probably around 45 C minimum (+-). I think I did too good a job with the thermal putty on the VRAM to get an extra 100 MHz I otherwise would. I suppose I could turn up the heat, but then the GPU core would hit a speed-bin drop...decisions, decisions. Half-kidding of course as the performance leaves nothing to be desired. Below is a GPU-Z for a 4K Superposition run, not even at full tilt...VRAM wants more heat...

There are a few HWBot elite members who qualify for 'psychotic' per pic on the left (and thus get select access to goodies such as the Galax 4090 HoF OCL which needs two of those 12VHPWR connectors)... ...on the right is Safedisk's (Asus OC team) A-die DDR5 tray - 'mirror, mirror on the wall, which sticks are the fastest of them all '
-
'Technically', it is rated at DDR5 7800 and it was only 1 stick at muchos voltas, but still, got to like that growth in headroom over the past six months or so. Somewhat related, IMC / memory speed is turning out to be a major handicap for AM5 for now; they better come up with a revision soon for an otherwise impressive platform.

Puget Systems: 1-7x NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 GPU Scaling

...fyi... doesn't say if tolerance issues on the plugs/connectors contributed to user error, but 0.05% is not earth-shattering -
...getting any A-die DDR5 w/that ? I hear they're close to 8 Ghz (and more if tortured / Ln2ed).

Production (and for that matter assembly) quality is definitely a potential issue with connectors, just as much as it is with other parts (ie. once you take the factory air cooler off a GPU and wonder about pad placements, TIM applications and so forth...) I am getting a third connector (the 12VHPWR single strand freebie from Seasonic) that should be here next week, but the two I have so far have not misbehaved in any way - though the 4-into-1 dongle was warmer to the touch where the 4x PCIe 8 pin cables join when pushing close to 600 W. The single-strand 12VHPWR I have from Cablemod will probably stay where it is, at least for now, given the heavy wire gauge, extra insulation and what appears to be good quality construction. All this makes you wonder though about Puget Systems' seven 4090s and their combined power draw and heat -

...I watched Steve's GN video above this morning - no real surprise re. the connectors not all the way inserted / flush mounted for whatever reason, as I pointed out in several other threads on this here (I've now given up on). Below is my new 12VHPWR cable mounted on the card, and that was the first time I even checked the connector - the more you unplug and re-plug it, the higher the chance for problems you may get, per specs. Anyway, easiest trick is to shine a light from the back on the spot where the card's connector and the cable meet and make sure it is completely flush with zero gap. Sorry for the tubing and wiring mess in the pic below, clean-up and perhaps a bit of benching on the weekend. Then 4K120 OLED goodness in FS2020... -

I wasn't even sure if I should get a 4090 now, but Digital Foundry et al had some decent pieces on DLSS3 and Frame Insertion - just the ticket for my fav applications and saving the 5950X combo from an early upgrade for now. I learned about (limited) local availability of the 4090s via that other 'big forum' as some folks were ordering from them from the US (one even from an airliner over the ocean, apparently). So I drove over there in Friday evening rush hour (30 min instead of the usual 10 min) and grabbed one for the entry-level pricing. Now, all of Canada seems to have been grazed empty after checking all the local and national chains today...irony is that I could have picked up seven to play 'Puget Sound' 7x scaling at the time (not that I really would have). I also made it past the potential 'ONO' moment after I installed a water-block with some tricky custom steps I do - there's always the potential for that 'ono' (oh, no) moment at first boot-up after the operation... -
...good ol' Elmor is getting rich ! - Well deserved, though. I sometimes wonder whether I should get some of Elmor's goodies for the new Epyc (ie. 96 cores/ 192 threads). With 12 channel DDR5, memory won't be an issue (apparently also with better micro-code than the Ryzen 7K). Just get a decent (> VRM) workstation board, slap on huge water-cooling (or a pot), add Elmor's goodies and bingo

I still have some 7x PCIe 3.0 x16 (older) HEDT mobos here, perhaps I will...nah. I noticed their Leadex Superflower PSu(s), and also the long PCIe riser cables - since mining is not what it used to be, one can probably get those 'on sale' now. -
I will check out the free upgrades in the marketplace for updated textures for the planes you mentioned such as the A310 and DC-3. The RTX 2070 is a nice card for below 4K, and the gains you described above with SU 11 are still quite impressive on a percentage basis. The DLSS3 / Frame Insertion adds additional gains on top of that for the RTX4000 series via both specific hardware and new software (parts of which may yet hit the RTX 2000 + 3000 series, but w/o the extra hardware would introduce additional latency). Anyway, FS2020 was an is my fav sim / 'game' but before it came with a lot of frustration re. its DX12 beta. Now with SU 11, that is no longer the case and the DLSS3 / Frame Insertion is what puts it over the top for me since I play exclusively on the OLED 'limited' to 4K / 120 Hz.
