  1. Nice ! FYI, we've got a snow storm and - 10 C coming up in the next few days, but I probably just stay cozy warm inside and avoid benching...coldest thing I'll touch (hopefully) will be our fridge.
  2. ...I was wondering why rumours of Intel's 12900 KS picked up so much steam > 5950X 3D VCache ?
  3. ...pic is just right, for a 'film noir' fan like myself ...below are the individual bits I used:: Swiftech D5 / MPC 655 (w/ Molex, pwm and speed adjustment screw on the back), XSPC D5 (w/ Molex, pwm and speed adjustment screw on the back), EK XTop Revo Dual D5 (pwm, Molex) w/ housing and a stand-alone D5 housing from Bitspower (5 inlets / outlets). Not sure about the EK Revo D5 ones, but the Swiftech and XSPC D5s are interchangeable re. housings, distros etc. The black tape strip is neoprene (w/ glue on one side) which I use to mount the pumps on and insulate re. vibrations (and thus also any kind of noise)
  4. I tend to use free-standing D5s (Swiftech, XSPC) which I rubber-mount to absorb vibration, either in/on a case or a mobile cooling table setup, like below. With something like 10x D5s in use for multiple builds over the years and some as old as 9 years, I only ever lost 1x D5...and that was my own fault for accidentally running it dry while trying to test out fan Molex cable trees (those were the days I hate Molex). I'm not sure yet about the EKWB XTop Revo 2x D5 setup as it is only in use for about four months, but so far, so good...
  5. fyi - Qubits coz I had fun with IBM's online system for that
  6. Thanks - I'll give rig creator a try again once Raven_B 'is ready for its closeup' as well (adding a new Phanteks TR block tomorrow) In the meantime, so pics with the glass panels on...fyi, first full day with a GoPro Hero 10, don't quite know what the heck I'm doing yet re. lighting and focus zone quirks
  7. I finally completed 'Raven_A', a work-play dual mobo project in a TT Core P8 case I showed bits about before. It took a long time, but it was a complex build that required a fair amount of custom fabrication. @ENTERPRISE ...this is one of two Ravens (both dual-mobo). How do I put a single case / dual system into the rig creator ? "Top Left": Asus CH8 Hero Wifi - 32 GB DDR4 CL14 3800 - Gigabyte 6900XT / 430 W - 1200mm x 63mm rads, 2x D5 pumps, Philips 40 inch VA panel "Bottom right": Asus CH8 Dark - 32 GB DDR4 CL14 3800 - Asus RTX 3090 / 520W - 1320 x 63 mm rads, 3x D5 pumps, LG OLED C1 48 panel
  8. ...I would still consider myself a good fan, just not one who gets up for most races at 4.30 am anymore (Pacific NW time zone)...at a reasonable early morning hour for me, there are already plenty of YouTube and other summaries waiting for me. As to Max, I will say that he was exciting to watch as, IMO, a couple of times in recent races in particular, he was driving beyond 100%
  9. ....may be, or may be it is the result of more corporate interest decision-making to limit (further) brand damage. Toto Wolff said that he and Hamilton won't be attending the gala where the trophy will be handed to Verstappen. In that announcement, he indicated that he is 'following Hamilton's decision not to attend'. Technically, Hamilton is required to attend as one of the top three drivers, according to the rule book. I doubt the FIA will pursue that though if indeed it comes to pass. ...anyway, it's like a big pile-up on a busy, foggy highway...lots of damage and debris with mostly losers - and a lengthy accident investigation to follow (also announced by FIA). ..one can argue that this situation would not have occurred under the late Charlie Whiting as race director, though that's Monday-morning-quarterback stuff. I do think that Michael Masi hasn't had enough time to build up his authority, and I reiterate my point in my earlier post, and that is that Christian Horner and Toto Wolff should never have been allowed to have direct verbal communication with Masi during a race for a variety of good reasons, including their monetary role in F1 negotiations. I blame those two for most of it though do understand their motivation from a corporate POV. Finally, I wonder if time heals all wounds - though some of it will stick. I do recall the situation between Hamilton and Rosberg when the latter beat his teammate Hamilton for the driver championship. There were some questionable behaviour on/off track and some odd calls (or no calls) during some races.
  10. ...I used to b a big F1 fan, meaning I would get up at 4.30 am local time to watch the races. These days, I just watch the odd race and/or summaries as it has become what looks like a scripted reality tv show. IMO, things were already off the rails in Saudi Arabia re. inconsistent rule applications. I also did not like F1 singling out Verstappen before the last race with a warning - if anything, it should have officially addressed both leading drivers. As to the race in Abu Dhabi, it was a farce, including the outrageous (and in my opinion dirty) blocking Perez was allowed to get away with lap after lap...just checking the time lost by Hamilton / gained by Perez's teammate Verstappen says it all. As to the final lap, clearly neither C.Horner nor T.Wolff should even be allowed to have direct contact with the race director during a race. In the end, Verstappen won the deserved driver's title while Mercedes added another constructor's title...sort of what I was hoping for, but in a different manner not tainted by what we saw.
  11. ...horses have very sensitive hearing, so...expert opinion:
  12. GoPro 10 plus some accessories; will be a Christmas present since my current mini-cam is five years old and getting tired.
  13. ...some essentials, such as aged cheddar and more Starbucks Sumatra coffee. Also, a WD Blue 1TB and a Threadripper Phanteks block for a work machine. I've got a so-far-unused TR MSI Pro Carbon X399 mobo that's moving up to replace Intel X79/99 office 'retirees'.
  14. Having some fun with the new > Volocopter option in FS2020, and landing pretty much anywhere, including where I shouldn't Below is London, original screenshots are 4K / Ultra / HDR via the DX12 beta in FS2020...
  15. ...a heck of a lot ! Alder Lake DDR5 w/ their'quad channel' DDR5 config hit between 80 and 110 G/s on AIDA reads, depending on RAM specs.
  16. So far, I have had only limited exposure to Windows 11, but it seems artificially differentiated to 'look and feel' different, with the result that it is more cumbersome for the user, reg tweak or not... Then there's the fact that all three of my Windows 10 Pro machines are AMD Ryzen, notwithstanding that I still have more Intel CPUs than AMD. The initial Windows 11 had well-publicized problems for AMD Ryzen re. L3 cache etc. Even if they fixed it now, that tells me that things were rushed (or worse). What really bothers me though is the ever-increasing invasive big-data vacuuming the Microsoft OS do, in addition to the constant messages / resetting of default browser, and advertising on MY desktop... But to each his own... I might upgrade eventually, like in 2024, after lots of patches have streamlined things
  17. ...yes, the two Windows 7 were always updated (similar story for an older Win Server 2008 legacy machine here). This Win 7 Pro screenie was just taken on the machine I'm typing this on.
  18. Ha, that's exactly what I'm actually doing ! I find Microsoft's corporate behavior around Win 11 (and increasingly, some of their other apps) disgusting. For now, I stick with my three installs of Win 10 Pro and two running Windows 7 Pro (Win 7 still updates on major things, btw). I also used some slightly older hardware to put together extra machines for Linux and BSD because I'm really fed up with Microsoft.
  19. More Cat7 cables (35ft, 50ft) for 1Gbps network. Some oldies couldn't hack that speed, so off to eWaste pastures
  20. I much prefer Asus (and even MSI) bios over Gigabyte, but on my Gigabyte Z170 SOC Force w/ 6700K ES, I had similar troubles at first. Eventually, I got the 4x4 RAM up to 4133 + -. The fix had s.th. to do with default/auto-interleaving in the bios / memory segment (can't quite remember). Another issue was that it would reboot into bios #2 if bios F5 type default if bios #1 had a setting 'too far'. There was a switch to disable that automatic bios swap though. Btw, that Z170 SOC Force is a great mobo for oc'ing, it can even accept a 9000k w/ a minor mod and available custom bios.
  21. Nice ! BTW, has your DDR4 4000 arrived yet from Amazon? Specs ? Issues w/ reboot, per above ?
