  1. There's definitely some fomo with GPUs now. I'll think hmm maybe I should try to get one and then I think, what no that's crazy I'm not spending that much on a gpu that's barely faster than one that's roughly half the price.
  2. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/bill-gates-and-warren-buffett-are-building-a-1-billion-next-generation-nuclear-reactor-in-wyoming/ar-AAKFcFd?ocid=mmx&PC=EMMX20 Been a long time coming. Glad they're finally getting ready to build.
  3. I mean to be fair it's cheaper than a 3090 and basically on par for gaming.
  4. Samsung's new virtual assistant leaks showing a Pixar-like character (msn.com) Knowing the internet, I kinda think the whole rule 34 thing might make this backfire... But who knows. Maybe in the future all the digital assistants will be more anthropomorphized.
  5. Looks like it's about ~11% faster than the 3080. At nearly twice the price, not something I would lean toward.
  6. Yea taking screen shots with HDR is weird for sure. That video was my first time using the AMD recording software as opposed to the Nvidia version and to be fair, I don't think the Nvidia one even lets you record in HDR with the game, or if it does it looks really washed out. Both AMD and Nvidia seem to be pretty flawed when it comes to recording with HDR as far as I can tell.
  7. https://www.amd.com/en/technologies/radeon-software-fidelityfx-super-resolution https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=eHPmkJzwOFc&feature=emb_title Works on Nvidia cards as well.
  8. Looks like an HDR recording issue. Didn't look like that in game.
  9. Here is a more in depth and modern summary of this problem:
  10. Good luck with the new web dev team. Sucks that you got shafted but I'm sure in some ways it was a learning experience for things to avoid. Looking forward to seeing things progress!
  11. A lot of people think that there's a conspiracy to hide nuclear power generating tech (not suggesting you are one of them) but I had a friend who was really into this conspiracy and so I looked into it a lot to disprove him and it turns out the physics, science, and engineering needed to make this work is just really hard (shocking). Part of the reason for the conspiracy is that a lot of the physics was known long before the engineering was anywhere near capable of carrying out the theories but now we're just starting to see the engineering catch up to the science. Some people took this as some kind of cover-up but in reality its just a really complex problem yet to be solved. There are major economic incentives behind next gen nuclear energy and nothing is going to get in the way of progress. The economy wants cheaper energy as much as anyone does. The patent shelving mega-corps cant shelve a project this large.
  12. 150 million degrees to just a few hundred degrees is a pretty big improvement. I grew up near the Lawrence Livermore Lab. For anyone unaware, that lab has a giant laser that's supposed to be aimed at starting a fusion reaction. The hurdle they face is that, while we can create fusion now, we can't get the process started without using more energy to start the reaction than the reaction puts out. This problem has yet to be solved, or even close but progress is being made on that front, as well as many others. The giant laser at the Livermore Labs was also used as the set for the 2009 star trek movie's warp core scene. The laser machine is the warp core. Star Trek 2009: Livermore Lab: It was news in my home town when Chris Pine stayed at the Rose Hotel in my hometown during filming. The Rose Hotel is a very ritzy hotel owned by John Madden who lives in my hometown.
  13. https://www.ign.com/articles/microsoft-flight-simulator-base-game-size-in-half-170-83 Pretty impressive optimization. I've heard a major ram optimization is also coming soon.
  14. The real test will be seeing if people find a way to bypass this or not.
  15. NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Spotted in Ashes of the Singularity (guru3d.com) Feels almost pointless to report on this since it's so hard to get a GPU. Hard to get excited about something hardly anyone will be able to get.
  16. Looks like a decent step up from FC5. The first video is time-stamped to the reveal. If you don't want to hear the whole Ubi marketing pitch, just watch the second video.
  17. Looks really impressive, especially considering it's coming to PS4 as well. Can't wait to play this.
  18. The density of quixel assets is so high, the wonder how much work it is for devs to achieve results like this. Having played around with UE myself, enhancing bridge integration is a pretty big step towards making the engine easier to work with. It needs to be at a point where all the quixel assets show up natively from the unreal editor, and it sounds like it's at that point finally.

  20. https://www.techspot.com/news/89821-valve-has-handheld-gaming-console-works-codenamed-teampal.html Interesting. Hopefully this makes it further than steam OS.
