  1. what?, no cpu slot?... guess it's busy feeding all those gpu's... with me about 1/4 to 1/3 of my ppd comes from cpu
  2. Ok cool... I'm no threat lol... even with my wife's PC going full blast... it's just an HTPC with a 3200G... the CPU/GPU combination on it can't hold a candle to my CPU alone.... it's crazy what PPD I see out of a heavily throttled 3900x compared to my old CPU's and hers.... makes me wonder how well the 5000 series does. I usually see around 250 to 300k a day out of my CPU, her system only nets around 65-70k per day as a whole
  3. accidental double post... sorry... well actually this was a post I didn't think went through because it was still sitting in the submit box... and I hit submit again later.
  4. well... I don't know if my son has joined up yet, but I was able to convince my wife to use her PC for FAH... but she wanted me to do it in my name, is there any rules against that in the competition... I don't think so, but thought I'd ask to be sure.... poor PC, it only has a 3200g, but it chugs along cool and quietly getting it's 66k ppd ? seems low
  5. just an example from ebay: clicky and an auction: clicky both are my exact card... and yeah, I can find some cheaper, but they are from less reputable dealers and overseas... so yeah, market place is needed here to help combat this stuff.
  6. at this point with the way GPU and CPU availability is, used junk IS treasure.... I paid 360$ or so for my 5700xt some time back... went to the same page and it was listed at 1399$... I think it's come down some since, but holy crap, I saw used ones on ebay going for over 700 with bids!... wish I had an extra one to sell.
  7. I'm am trying to figure out how to get more work units done lol... last time I had more points than a member who had nearly double the work units I had... so I am testing out dividing my cpu slot into two slots of 11 threads each, seems to be working so far, time will tell... maybe the same idea could work for the 5800x in getting more points since multi threading is better on the 2nd and 3rd gen zen. on another note, and more on topic, I am sharing this thread with a few family members, including my son who has a similar setup to me... he says he will join in... would really like to see this site grow, since it's better than the alternative... wonder if anyone over there has noticed I've been gone yet lol.
  8. I'm ashamed of how long I looked for the dark theme here before I realized there wasn't one... not a deal breaker, but I do work in a dark room...
  9. I know I love this site compared to how the other one went... they refused to listen to anyone and just made it like 100's of their other forums. Coming here for me was out of frustration as well... The only feature I really miss... dark theme lol.. but as you already have seen @ENTERPRISE is already on it.
  10. This room is on the "hot" side of the house with no shade and only a 6000BTU A/C... I don't even game in here during the day on summer days anymore... Back some years ago I messed up real bad and built an AMD FX system with two 7950's in crossfire.... that would push temps in here past 30C even with the AC on full blast... It's actually why I made this build the way I did, more cores than I need, but that way I get a better bin so I can get away with much less voltage and set a lower power limit. still get good multicore performance, and not loose any single core, but only at 65w... less than half what this chip on this motherboard pulls at stock settings... GPU I undervolt and lower power limit in the summer or when folding... of coarse when it's freezing cold like it's been, I do a one click bios profile change and a GPU power profile change and let the power flow lol.... But I digress, still, while I can, I'll be joining in on the folding team's competitions.
  11. a large competition... hmm interesting. Soon temps here will start warming up and I'll have to sit out these competitions, but for now I'll be joining in.
  12. thanks and it's my birthday today too so this makes it extra special
  13. last night before going to bed I loaded my power profiles for long term folding. CPU power limited to 65w GPU limited to 145w Current CPU tpf: 3m 42s Current GPU tpf: 1m 37s Wondering now if that could be improved with some other tuning to increase power efficiency further.
  14. nope, it didn't... This is why I don't usually talk anything politics on sites like this... I'm a bit of a centrist, mostly because I see both sides having hate groups, both sides posting crap like "punch a n@zi" or "stop the steal" and it always just makes things worse, no one wants to work things out peacefully because all people see on the news is the extreme ends of the spectrum... but since it's started, I'll throw out my view... Private companies can do what they want in this regard so long as it doesn't violate the anti trust law... section 230 is only supposed to protect public forum companies that don't take an editorial stance on their users content, like FB, Twitter, etc... unless you can prove AWS did either of those somehow then they've broken no law. I'm reminded now of the baker who didn't want to bake a cake for a certain couple... personally, for simple reasons of consistency, I have to argue that it's wrong to force a company to do business with someone they don't want to... that doesn't mean there won't be repercussions though.
  15. 1st off, Guys, I'm proud no one get stupid political over this in here... that makes my day! 2nd, I think Amazon will have repercussions from this that they didn't expect... a free market usually self corrects, unfortunately sometimes bad things happen along the way... still better than state/federal controlled version in my opinion, but it's just that, my opinion.
  16. The tariffs really helped our steel company by helping us compete with cheap foreign products. Yes our raw material cost went up, but the lack of overseas competition made up for it. We make steel containers if it matters to anyone... That being said, I really don't see how any company can survive in Cali right now since their cooperate tax rates are so high.
  17. Well, either way, I bet it will happen quicker here than at that "other site".... Thanks for the update and all your hard work here.
  18. just in case someone searches this out, the solution that worked for me was to go in and disable pretty much all automated amd stuff... like automatic updates, auto set profiles and such... all manual settings...
  19. that steam survey seems to be a bit random... I was asked to participate once... years ago... not since... I can't help but to wonder if it's really accurate at all given how rare I've seen it... How often, if ever, have you been asked to participate? btw, I've been through 4 builds since then.
  20. OMG found it... seems that it's an AMD file!... for some reason Dirt 5 triggers it, but I finally found the culprit in action... it's AMDRSServ.exe that's actually eating it up. Trying what you said as well, just in case there is some other interaction there that might be causing it... I did find this where at least a couple others were having similar issue with AMDRSServ.exe... but I didn't know that until I actually caught the little bugger chewing up my virtual memory... I will be watching and I'll get back when I know something, but I have to go back to work tomorrow so my gaming will be cut out a good bit.
  21. Ok, no good... not sure what's going on, tried to find the process that was eating up the virtual memory, but not really sure how to do it... nothing showed that particularly active in the task manager and nothing was showing any actual disk usage... I'm going to try using performance monitor to see the hard fault count... perhaps I can find it that way... but once it starts I only have a few seconds before it chews through several gigabytes of allocation. thanks for your help
  22. ok, tried disabling the page file and restarting... fail... or windows is lying.. not sure which... either way the game ran fine with the page file "turned off"... I will try a reinstall... and like you I was thinking it was a stuck process or similar issue. This issue is random so I really won't know for a while if it's fixed or not.
  23. This is the first for me too... one thing I noticed since I was logged on last, is that the "leak" continues after exiting the game unless I sign out of windows and log back in... don't have to do a full restart, just sign out... will try your solutions soon.
