  1. Ok, no good... not sure what's going on, tried to find the process that was eating up the virtual memory, but not really sure how to do it... nothing showed that particularly active in the task manager and nothing was showing any actual disk usage... I'm going to try using performance monitor to see the hard fault count... perhaps I can find it that way... but once it starts I only have a few seconds before it chews through several gigabytes of allocation. thanks for your help
  2. ok, tried disabling the page file and restarting... fail... or windows is lying.. not sure which... either way the game ran fine with the page file "turned off"... I will try a reinstall... and like you I was thinking it was a stuck process or similar issue. This issue is random so I really won't know for a while if it's fixed or not.
  3. This is the first for me too... one thing I noticed since I was logged on last, is that the "leak" continues after exiting the game unless I sign out of windows and log back in... don't have to do a full restart, just sign out... will try your solutions soon.
  4. Ok, recently installed Dirt 5 and am having a weird problem... system specs: OS is windows 10 latest build R9 3900X 5700XT 32GB Gskill 3200mhz RAM A plethora of hard drives including a 250GB 970 evo and a PNY XLR8 2 TB nvme drive. Issue: Randomly my page file will bloom from the normal 6 - 20GB to well over 60GB all while RAM usage stays under 25%... I have tried increasing virtual memory all the way up to 1TB just to see, still balloons that far eventually. It's almost like Dirt 5 or windows is forgetting it's already there and creating a new allocation for the game at some point along the way... if I exit the game in time to prevent a crash all is well and a simple sign out and back in restores page file usage to normal. This is the only game that does this and it doesn't do it often. edit: Forgot to add attempted solutions summary 1. switch from automatic virtual memory management to manual 2. increase allocation 3. change location of page file 4. load game different ways (compatibility) 5. close all other programs including as many background apps as possible. 6. say words my mother would get upset by if she heard... 7. swap windows accounts to my sons (testing settings differences)
  5. I got a PNY 2TB nvme drive for my steam drive... my son got a 4TB spinning drive for mass storage.
  6. truth be told, I could run FAH on 3 more PCs here, but none of them are good number crunchers... in fact, one would likely take 3 days to get the first work unit done lol... Honestly I'm just impressed with the points a couple people here are racking up. It's fun to have a little competition for a good cause like this... and now that the cold front made it through, temps in this room have dropped to about 16C so I upped the power limits... 100w on CPU and 200w on the GPU... well actually the GPU is basically unlimited, but it's only hitting 200w.
  7. Looking at the current stats last night and then again this morning I feel like that young kid in a sports car who gets passed 2 seconds after the race starts and now can barely see the F1 McLaren and Bugatti Chiron in the distance, but still feels decent because at least I'm still here with the Hondas and Mustangs... ?️ ? ?
  8. I tried a few times and so far can't tell any significant difference between runs with CPU folding and not... I know the PPD estimates are hot garbage at times, but since starting folding for the competition today I've seen up to 1.8m ppd with high power limits and 1.6m ppd with 65w limit on the 3900x and 150w on the 5700xt... I tend to limit power when running days long computations or like now when it's hot in this room in December lol... supposed to cool down tomorrow so I'll be ramping back up then.
  9. oooh, dark theme... looking forward to that one... seems like a small thing, but I tend to work in a dark room and white sites are a bit harsh.. Thanks!
  10. let's pretend I'm a complete idiot for a moment... I haven't noticed this phenomenon of decreased PPD while CPU folding, of coarse I have pretty much always folding on the CPU and GPU, however, I think I would have noticed others getting significantly more GPU PPD than me... on the 5700 XT side I usually see around 1.2 million and around 400K on the cpu... sometimes I've seen a bit higher like 1.35 million/500K on easy ones when I have the power limits off.. I usually limit my cpu to 100w, no real reason other than keeping it in the efficiency window.... sooo, should I try without the CPU and see? Or am I strangely lucky and getting what I should expect.
  11. I'll be there for it... At least for the latter bit... have to work the 23rd
  12. @Bastiaan_NL Thanks ? There is a bit of story that I don't know if I ever told anyone at OCN... I know I haven't here yet... but I got into folding because of my wife... I found out that FAH was using peoples PC's to help find cures for cancer...which she had a very slow type of... then her health went down hill... and over time I found more and more that the things she was suffering from were included in the research pieces being sent out. It makes it personal. So instead of using a space heater to heat my office/bedroom area, I use my PC... win/win as I see it... Funny bit though, I kinda miss my old Vega card on those really cold nights ?. I'd get more points if I folded year round/all day, but it gets to hot in here if I do that. During the folding event, I have intentions of getting all my PC's that can fold involved... Interesting fact: My 3900x limited to 100w is getting almost the same PPD as my old fury x did.
  13. holy crap.. I've barely crossed 30 million total... and for this team I'm coming up on 4 million... but then, I don't have the best hardware for folding... mediocrity at best really...
  14. This may be useless as mine is a factory OC card, and I have power limit maxed, but I'm seeing around 1.2m ppd... for reference operating frequency of the card is around 2100mhz while folding most of the time (2077 at this moment)... some jobs cause it to drop for whatever reason even with power headroom. I have not manually overclocked this card for folding, that is it's default speeds... if I push it to the limit, I can get and impressive 50 more mhz out of it lol
  15. I tend to agree with the angry mob here, not one of them, but still I see their point... 1. If the first reviews are unfairly skewed in a companies favor due to pressure from the company, it will create a false sense of "awesomeness" around whatever new hardware is being released... and it can take hundreds of fair reviews before that initial opinion formed can be dampened... and of coarse the fanboys will never lose the false review based love of the new product... those of us in the know, know better than to believe the day one reviews and also know to read/watch many reviews before forming an opinion... 2. Reviewers may actually skew the other way out of fear of being accused of being shills or "toting the line" thus making products look less interesting than they actually are... this happened with AMD once that I remember, but for a slightly different reason. While I'm not a part of the angry mob, I can see their reason for being so angry, especially those with livelihood based on reviewing hardware that they now have to be concerned over people assuming that they've been bought out.
  16. It's an unfortunate reality that nearly all companies engage in shady business... just some get to the point Nvidia and Intel did where the make the mistake of saying the quiet part out loud... but as stated above... fan boys combined with the lack of competition that was there for years kept them making billions so they didn't care... let's see how that works out now that AMD is actually a contender, and more interesting to me is, how will AMD react.
  17. I was just watching Linus's video on it... I can and can't believe they would do this. It's a horrible move and proving to be very unpopular... sad thing really as they do make some great hardware... and they are going to kill it with this bad PR... thanks for sharing.
  18. thanks ?. I like the landing page here... it's like a breath of fresh air having that layout... love reading the latest posts and news without having to hunt it down. Good job here.
  19. In as minotaurtoo. may need a reminder though... but I often use my pc for heat in this room this time of year by folding... so this is perfect timing.
  20. Well I gave up on OCN getting it together and now I'm here... CptAsian recommended this site to me... I'll be lurking around for a while before getting active to get the feel of the place, but it looks vaguely familiar here ?.
