  1. Looking great ! Those Delta fans will certainly aid in cooling that is for sure, some great pics. Bet you are looking forward to kicking this bad boy on.
  2. Wow, nice update. I love these big server builds with lots of storage, ohh the possibilities ! You were not lying about a tight fit were you lol, jeez there really is not much in it, but good that it fits in otherwise that would have been a facepalm moment. At least you have plenty of room for the GPU though. Fingers crossed that you can give it a moderate OC and the cooler will hold up, as you say though, replacing the fans will help you on that front and there are plenty to choose from. If noise is not an issue then you have it made and you could get some really powerful units on that heatsink.
  3. Man you should so do that, get a 45/40nm Slims and put it in a PC case with silent but awesome airflow. That would make for a fantastic rig mod !
  4. The thing that irritates me is that the buyer should not have to ask. If Nvidia are going to release 3 variants of the same product, then they should be forced to display the clear differences between those variants so consumers can make an informed choice. Until it is law then Nvidia wont as they are just happy to clear stock at consumers expense. While Nvidia may display these differences on the packaging I bet it is purposefully difficult to see lol. You know, the little * followed by font 3 writing .
  5. Yeah it is a massive PITA. I myself while I do have an upgrade path available to me (Ryzen 4000 CPU's), will likely stick with my 3950x for a good few years, it is already PCIe 4, so I already have that sorted. No real sense in going to the 4000 series. As for the GPU, sold my SLI 2080T's. A. for the next GPU's an B. SLI is dead as a dodo. Even with the next upgrade I may very well not go with a top end Nvidia card as I am finding the price tag is simply not worth it, games are not maxing these cards out, hopefully this is a sign of the better optimised drivers and game engines. I will be taking a good hard look at the RDNA2 cards from AMD this year and may go to the red team if the rumours are true with the performance they are getting, plus AMD will price competitively. Might get a better bang for the buck.
  6. That is a solid build you have there, certainly is worth it to build rigs like these out of revived parts rather than them going to waste. The other thing you can us it for is for server use. You could even run the Plex server client on that machine if home media streaming is of interest to you.
  7. Yeah I think that is the only thing they can do. IMHO Intel's complacency is really starting to show, first it was due to the surprise of Zen giving them a kick in the pants and now it has become obvious that they had far too much confidence in their current fab that they left it way to late to work on their 7nm products. I don't doubt Intel will retain the majority of the market share, but I am confident in saying it will continue to shrink and confidence in Intel products could be shaky compare to AMD options.
  8. Nice, glad it arrived ! I would recommend changing out the CMOS battery for a new one as well due to the age of the board. Plus it means if you have setting retaining issues you can remove the CMOS battery as a factor.
  9. Well that is mixed sounding, I do remember the good old CCC though but never owned a GPU in the Adrenaline days so IF I did go the AMD route then it would be another little learning curve.
  10. OUCH. That is a huge blow, this will really give AMD the extra juice to run away with the consumers. Looks like Intel is going to have to keep banging out those refreshes which is bad news as they cannot optimize their current fab much more to make it compelling. Then again....the fanboys may just keep Intel afloat.
  11. All in all it is just the varying specs which confuses all, instead of purchasing a clear cut product, consumers now need to do an annoying amount of homework in order to get the one they want. Not everyone wants to do that and should not have to.
  12. Yeah, I think most reputable companies will provide new cables you can purchase, assuming you have a modular PSU
  13. Mmmmm nice, one day lol when my next upgrade happens. I have not looked at the full specifications but I assume the on die ECC will be on server ram only and not typical consumer RAM. Would be nice if it becomes a standard across the board one day.
  14. They seen desperate to cash in on any and all fab stock lol, makes business sense but leads to produce fragmentation though.
  15. I have not used AMD's GPU driver suite in yonks, I hear their drivers did get better though.
  16. With all that awesome hardware you could have a HWBOT rig Hall Of Fame haha.
  17. Some interesting points. The adaptors in my mind will be so hit and miss, and this is always the issue with adaptors, especially those used during a transition phase. The whole point of this 12Pin is to use higher quality pins and once it becomes a default cable that come with PSU's, then logic would follow that the wire gauge quality would also increase. With these adaptors you may get neither of these things, so it is something to watch out for during this period of transition. I also agree that while AMD may have made a good leap, I think it would be naive to think that the RDNA2 will trade blows directly with something like the 3080Ti. HOWEVER, if it is close enough and the price nicely undercuts Nvidia, then we still have something good on our hands.
  18. Haha yeah it is unfortunate timing. Fortunately I am not upgrading my CPU for a while, just no need, so hoping to put resources towards a GPU whether that be Nvidia or AMD....time will tell.
  19. There we go then, at least the adaptors have all but been confirmed, though an aftermarket version is a must lol, nobody wants those ketchup and mustard style connectors. That being said I may hold off until the end of the year to see what RDNA2 brings, plus even if RDNA2 is not great, then it gives Nvidia to work out any software/hardware kinks of the RTX 3 series. I did wonder if this connector was going to be a more OEM thing, which to a degree makes sense, but as the video eludes to as it is just your standard 12v and ground, then AIB's will not find it hard to just revert back to the standard 2x8Pins
  20. @486 Yeah you certainly can. Check here: https://extremehw.net/forum/main-forum/6577-extremehw-beta-test-our-new-theme The test platform is down right now for additional works but should be up again soon for testers All eyes are well appreciated...p.s....BAN
  21. Well they must supply an adapter otherwise its madness. I cannot see PSU manufacturers being able to keep it a secret if they are preparing ”Ampere Ready" PSU's. Plus I cannot see Nvidia risking such a bold move, not when what we are hearing from the red camp is as compelling as it is.
  22. Hey all. So with the suggestion that the new RTX GPU's are going to have a new 12 pin single connector, possibly calling for a new PSU altogether, what say you ? Be sure to vote in the poll ! Check out more on this topic : https://www-techradar-com.cdn.amppro...st-of-their-pc
  23. Yeah I have MGS PS3 Bundle as well, I need to play through the series again from start to finish, but in chronological order of the storyline.
