  1. Our Winner is @Bastiaan_NL & @486. Please send me a PM with your Paypal details
  2. Huge thanks to all those who participated ! I will be doing the prize drawing later today
  3. Nice, look forward to the build. As for the image upload, please use the red camera icon to the top right of the editor for image uploads. We do not use the built in attachment uploader for images as it is less efficient. EHW 2.0 will make the process a little more intuitive Banned for.....I will leave it up to you
  4. Haha yeah SuperMicro was never known for having any bells and whistles but dam...they did get the work done. Possible the lack of bells and whistles allows them to focus on the core important things more, leading to a super stable product.
  5. The funny thing is that I did not play an awful lot of PS3 games specifically. I actually got the console originally for Metal Gear Solid 4 (being an MGS Fan), I know I did play some of the other Final Fantasy series which I enjoyed. However moreover I got the PS3 for playing some of the old skool classics as well.
  6. Ha ! I don't think you are the only person to think that of Supermicro boards. That being said, they do get the job done, I will give them that.
  7. Banned for living in the past. On serious note, will have to check to make sure the new uploader will do a good job of Gifs.
  8. I am not surprised considering it is coming from China. Hopefully it will arrive in good shape and working order, finger crossed bud. As for a benchmark, I reckon the only way to bench it is to see the systems overall utilisation when playing a 4K HDR file and try to stream as many of them as you can (outside the network of the server to force transcoding) and wait until you get buffering issues.
  9. I will be straight up with this, if they released the GPU with a new connector and no adaptors...I am not getting it. No way am I tearing out my perfectly good PSU just because Nvidia came up with a new connector. While this is still up in the air at the moment as to how Nvidia is going about this, some news outlets say that there wont be an adaptor as that negates the point of the new connector, not to mention that apparently it has a different pin-out configuration. So this begs the question are we going to see "Nvidia Ampere Ready" PSU's in the future ? Considering that we have had no leaks on that specifically, I cannot see this happening. Will have to wait and see how they go about this.
  10. I have to admit, with the new GPU's from AMD looking rather impressive, I am considering AMD again (For the GPU market)
  11. Yeah it came in, all installed and working as I would expect a motherboard too....remember your BIOS settings lol. Kinda basic. Great board though! Good to have the server running again.
  12. Haha cheers, The Tats keep me STRONG lol. Yeah the old Phats while fantastic so far as the hardware support were a bomb waiting to...well...melt. I remember my original PS3 Phat, that thing no word of a lie, when Folding (Back when PS3's were the best thing since sliced bread for F@H) would run like an oven. Honestly in winter you could just switch off the heating and let that thing whir away. Aside from the heat and the fact that Sony used a really poo TIM, the solder as @Andrew eluded to was soo poor back then so YLOD's were almost expected. Though I will say that the Xbox 360 while using the same solder (most likely) in my opinion had it worse, but I think that was possible due to the design of the mounting/retention mechanism. As you say though, with the emulation being pretty decent these days from Rebug, there is no need to get a Phat, just get yourself a Slim, a model with the newest node. Sony reduced those babies as the PS3 matured from 90/90nm to 45/40nm (CPU/GPU). Though the horrible super slims managed to take it to 45/28nm I have the 45/40nm build which makes controlling the heat much easier, especially with a TIM replacement.
  13. Nice ! Bringing back old hardware from the brink is always thrilling...that or I am sad lol..maybe both. However I have to say, that pin cleaning method would have me sweating but I can see how it works ! Oh and the elastic band method = Golden. If only they did not perish over time lol.
  14. Well as long as they provide the necessary adaptors (2x Pin to 12 Pin) when you buy the GPU then that is OK. I mean they generally do but as nobody is going to have a compatible PSU from the get go, they kind of have to lol. Curious though, I would like to see what sort of improvements these "Higher quality contacts" actually bring over the regular ones.
  15. Yeah those were the dark days when the Sony overlords limited the potential of the console, these days the sky is the limit really. Yeah aftermarket TIM is a must on any PS3 if you want to prevent the YLOD or a super loud console.
  16. I don't blame you. To be honest for all arguments sake, unless you are chasing numbers then PBO does a good job. As long as you have a good cooling solution you can kind of let PBO do its thing.
  17. Love it. If that was the case and I was in the market, I would certainly go to silicon lottery. Used them before with my 4790K and it was awesome !
  18. You all banned. Seriously though, that is being addressed with EHW 2.0
  19. Love the Galax HOF boards, so nice to look at. That would make a nice NUC for sure, I have found NUC's to just be so darn useful as of late, great as mini servers for the home as well lol. Nice, you will have to let us know how you get on with the programmer, hell you could offer your modding as a service
  20. Will still be a very capable machine, Oh look more Gentle Typhoon fans, I have a load of these new still haha.
  21. Hey, So looking at the information you provided I would enter the following into the calculator : Also in order for the BIOS to set the RAM at 3200Mhz, Have you been enabling XMP/DOCP ? Otherwise the motherboard will utilize the RAM at a lower speed. Only use XMP/DOCP though if you want to simply set your RAM to 3200Mhz and leave it. If you are wanting to input setting from the DRAM Calculator, you will need to set your RAM to manual.
  22. No BIOS modders here yet BUT you may be able to find some help over here: https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/ Fairly dedicated to what BIOS Modding, so you may be able to get someone to help you out
  23. For those pro workstations, they on paper seem like beautiful CPU's !
  24. Actually the PS3 Slim can play PS2 Games. Some have official support and run very well, some do not have official support and can run so so, so far I have not run into any ugly emulation issues with the PS2 games thus far. I do believe that the jailbreak adds better emulation support for the PS2 titles over the official firmware, in fact as I write this I can see that it does : Source: https://rebug.me/official-rebug-4-85...oct-27th-2019/ This will explain why I have no issues as I ripped the ISO's of my games to the internal SSD Honestly a PS3 with the Rebug firmware (Read up on it) is amazing to be honest. I am fond of the old classics, so I am still keen on the PS3 as I can play all my classic games up to PS3 where if I am honest, that's where some of my favorites kind of stopped lol.
