  1. Nice, though isnt it always annoying when a brilliant board is hampered by lack of BIOS updates, that kills me sometimes. That is why I love these BIOS modders out there who can tweak and include updates into a BIOS file for re-flashing. Have you maybe checked this out ?
  2. Nice, almost want to get one for the sake of having one, but do not need any extra builds right now lol
  3. Hello all. So I wanted to share a recent experience I had with NCS Modz. First a little history........ My PS3 Slim was running incredibly hot and loud, so loud I could barely hear the game over the fan noise. Due to my inexperience with PS3 over heating issues, I figured it required new thermal compound between the IHS and the heatsink, WRONG. Upon realising that my PS3 was no better off, I did some research and found that the thermal compound Sony uses between the CPU/GPU die and the IHS is rubbish (lets face it though, most stock things are ). In fact it was so bad that the thermal compound had all but disintegrated into nothing ! No wonder the PS3 was in dire shape. So I decided it was time to remove the IHS and attempt a re-paste. I went looking for a guide, this is where I came across NSC Modz. I found the below IHS removal video which you can watch below, honestly this is the most thorough video I found on the topic. After watching the video, it was time to attempt my own IHS removal. All went so well with the GPU, but not so great with the CPU IHS which is actually the much harder one to be removed due to spacing. Unfortunately during my attempt, my tool (now better perfected) dug into the CPU traces...ultimately turning the board into a brick...bugger. This is no reflection on the guide, but shows that my tool was not quite right when I attempted this. You can see the shame below. It was at this point...it was time for a new PS3. The only issue is that my PS3 was jailbroken with a custom firmware (Rebug) that unlocked so many other possibilities for the console. No way was I going back to stock. Fortunately NSC Modz lists a contact number on his YouTube page, so gave it a shot. After some conversation, he had a PS3 that was already jailbroken and had already had the thermal compound replaced between the IHS and die, brilliant !. He was very accommodating in all my needs and kept me up to date all the way ! He was even able to go to his local store and pick up the 1TB SSD I wanted for the PS3. I could not have asked for a better or smoother experience. Due to his fantastic service, I felt compelled to create this experience thread promoting his services. I created a few videos showing my experience after receiving the PS3 from NSC Modz. Apologies in advance as these videos were taken on my phone in not fantastic light conditions. The Unboxing PS3 Non Load Temps [video=youtube_share;_wLWXdn6w-0] PS3 Load Temps (Gameplay) [video=youtube_share;3e6gqR0gL-g] In closing, NSC Modz provides a quick, thorough and friendly service. I would encourage you to take a look at his YouTube Channel that has a wealth of informative and How To videos. If you want to purchase any services from NSC Modz, note that while he resides in Germany that he ships internationally. All the best, E
  4. Hello all, I just wanted to share my recent experience with setting up LanCache. So recently I started to investigate a Steam Cache server. However after some issues with getting it setup I did some more investigating and came across LanCache. LanCache in short will allow you to cache content from various different services onto your NAS (if supported) or a dedicated PC. The great thing about this is those large pesky files such as games can be cached locally after the first download, meaning that if you have another PC on you LAN that needs those files or you need to re-install, your PC can grab this from your LanCache as opposed to a full re-download. LanCache at the point of writing this supports caching content from the following services. Source: https://lancache.net/docs/containers/monolithic/ There is also another full list of currently supported services expanded upon HERE Fortunately to run a LanCache you do not need to have a super PC and you could likely run this on an existing PC or another machine laying around your house. However like with everything PC, your performance of the LanCache will vary depending on the hardware used. As my LanCache will not be utilised by many machines I can use the specification guidelines for an up to 20 client build as per the below recommendations. Source: https://lancache.net/docs/hardware/ As for my build I am running the following which suffices just fine as a point of reference. CPU: AMD Ryzen 2700X @ 4.1Ghz all core. CPU Cooler: Wraith Spire Motherboard: Asus ROG I-Gaming X570 (ITX) RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance 3200Mhz DDR4 CL16 Storage 1: Kingston A2000 256GB M.2 (For Windows OS) Storage 2: Sandisk Plus 1TB SSD (Used for system caching to improve LanCache output performance) Storage 3: Toshiba X300 4TB HDD (Used for LanCache) GPU: GeForce GTX 1660 MSI Armour OC PSU: Be Quiet Power 11 600 Watt Case: Thermaltake Core V1 As per the above recommended specs from LanCache, if you have a spare SSD you can dedicate (or partially dedicate)towards system caching to help with through put, then do it. I have a 1TB SSD. I will be giving LanCache a 500GB partition to use, the other 500GB or so partition is used for my Plex transcoding temp file. LanCache runs on Linux. For my build I am running Linux (Ubuntu) on VM which works wonders. I fortunately found an excellent guide to help me get LanCache setup. Considering I am not a Linux buff, it helped me hugely. It also gives a nice overview of LanCache and its benefits. So get your LanCache up and running by watching the below Credit to Youtuber "Battle(non)sense" for this great video. **Note** While the video recommends Linux Mint, when I attempted the setup, I can across an issue where the Docker configuration files would delete themselves for no reason. I re-attempted exactly the same setup procedure just fine however when using Ubuntu, so I would possibly recommend trying that over Mint. At the time of this article Ubuntu 20.04 LTS is working well with LanCache. LanCache is also highly configurable to your needs, once you are happy with the initial setup you may want to check out some of the more advanced configurations you can make. https://lancache.net/docs/advanced/tuning-cache/ https://lancache.net/docs/advanced/config-hash/ Hopefully the above gets your nerd juices flowing. Have fun ! E
  5. As an update I went with the Asus ROG I-Gaming X570 board as the Asrock Phantom Gaming is a flawed product.
  6. That is a nice board, I can certainly see why it is a rarer find !
  7. It is funny you say that, I am actually in the process of setting up LanCache after having some issues with SteamCache. LanCache looks to be a lot better, plus not limited just to STEAM.
  8. Hey Chums, So I am finally getting round to this. So I have been following these instructions along with a YT Video which has worked great The only issue is that in the future I may very well need to change the fixed IP I have given the Steam Cache Docker. Running the same commands from Step 14, but with a new IP does not work as it gives you an error that the docker already exists. How would I update the existing docker with a new IP ?
  9. I am fairly convinced that the speeds are great when you first signed up for two possible reasons: 1. Most new connections have a settle time and for stability reasons, the exchange server will sometimes lower the throughput to get a fully stable connection with less errors. (This one is a fact however) 2. Its Marketing, they hook you in with great speeds then slowly make them lame after they have you lol.
  10. Wow great build ! Thanks for sharing. I think if I saw "Milwaukee" again my head my implode haha. That is a very nice case, not had experience with it personally but looks real solid. We are friends with InWin and have worked with their cases before to our delight. We will be reviewing one of their signature line soon, the InWin Xframe 2.0 which will become the official EHW Test Bench !

  14. Asus I have generally always gotten on with (Aside from the ROG Zenith fiasco). I figured I would give them another go on the X570 platform ! Oh from China ? Why from China out of interest ?
  15. Fingers crossed dude. As it happens, I have given up on my Asrock Phantom Gaming ITX board, there is definitely a hardware fault with it. Diagnosed it with Asrock to see if they could come up with a solution, but nothing can be done. So will be returning that for a refund. Seems to be a common issue with that board so wont risk a replacement. ASUS ROG Strix I-Gaming here we come lol.
  16. Yeah that motherboard was a real bummer man. Some sellers are unbelievable ! Hope you get your replacement soon. Ha, yeah you are at that stage where you are hoping everything fits ok, been there plenty of times !
  17. Nice choice on the Blu-ray drive. I have one too, though an external one. I must admit I barely use it as I keep all my files digital as opposed to on disk, but its nice to have the option. Yeah working in the BIOS issue with Asrock. They have released a new one which I will test, but only after giving them my diagnosis results from using th current BIOS so they have more to go on if this new BIOS is still poo lol. Looks like your build is coming together nicely !
  18. Oh nice !, I do like white PCB Boards ! Send pics when you are doing it lol.
  19. This is me sometimes, sometimes I should not buy cheap games for the sake of it if I do not have time to play them
