  1. Hey guys, As an update, we have received a bid of $2000 for the site. To answer some of the questions asked above. we host the site on a dedicated server, to which the specs can be seen below. Current memory usage for anyone interested. Memory load can be attributed to the forum and folding stats databases for the most part. The hosting server of the site and associated subdomains could be located on a cheaper hosting service, possibly even a VPS. I personally would not self host from the home as there are just too many scalability and infrastructure concerns. Our Disk usage in all honesty is not that bad considering as a site we are highly flexible with allowing large uploads, you can see the disk usage below at 60%. Cost engineering the running of the site is a relatively easy task and there are certainly some areas where savings can be made through moving to a lower cost server/hosting, retiring dedicated IP's and removing other non essential items with respect to the actual forum such as the product review site and or the folding stats site. There is not an awful lot of saving from removing site features as A, They are relatively inexpensive & B, the renewal for updates of various plugins whether off the shelf or custom, is low. However every little helps. You can of course gather further savings if a perspective buyer has all the knowledge and knowhow of setting up and maintaining the server as well as the sites related DNS/WAF requirements. If anyone else is interested in bidding, please feel free to contact me for details. All the best, E
  2. Hello all. I will answer the questions/musings tomorrow, I have read them but im away at the moment and a proper response requires that I be home More soon. Thanks, E
  3. In light of my last comment, please see the auction topic here: Thanks all, E
  4. Hello all, Related to the Topic laying out my departure from the site and some of the struggles noted in finding a new owner, I have decided that auctioning the site and its associated assets is the next logical step. Below I will outline the relevant information so that all those that enter a bid, are fully aware of all the facts before doing so. What is included in the auction *ExtremeHW Community Forum *ExtremeHW Review Site *ExtremeHW Etsy Store *ExtremeHW Discord *ExtremeHW Socials (Facebook & X) *ExtremHW YouTube Channel *All Artwork Assets (Site Graphics/Social Media & Homepage Exposure Etc) *All Document Assets *All Custom Plugin Development *All Relationships Between ExtremeHW and Vendors *All Relationships Between ExtremeHW and Developers *All Service Logins *All Google Workspace Assets (Gdrive, Email Inboxes Etc) Minimum monthly cost of running the sites Dedicated Server Rental - $133.86 (Contractual agreement ends May 2025) Invision Community Suite - $17 ** Cloudflare - $25 Google Workspace - $47.77 Domain - $2.19 ** Font Awesome Pro - $8.25 ** ** Services that are billed annually but broken down monthly for clarity. For those who are less savvy or disinterested with respects to all things Server and Cloudflare management you can optionally retain the services of my server manager for an additional cost of $75 per month and includes the below. - General server management including but not limited to, Proactive care, Configurations, Software Updates, Security, Backups, Troubleshooting + More - Cloudflare management. (Web Access Firewall & Performance Optimization) This would leave you with managing the community only, which is the route I took to spare my time. **NOTE** The above costs can be value engineered by the new owner. The above details costs to keep the site online and does not include optional custom development/plugin upgrades. All information pertaining to optional costs will be detailed to the winner. Current Site Income/Stats If you wish to discover the sites income/stats please inquire via PM. Included help and support I will provide help and support via myself or another with respects to the running of the site if required. Taking on a site can come with questions and I am not going to abandon a new owner and leave them to struggle as this would be unfair. Support will be included but not limited to the below examples. *Support with gaining familiarity with the ExtremeHW platforms, Invision Community & Wordpress. *Support with backend management. This would include the integral services required for the running of the site including Server Management, Cloudflare Etc. *Any questions the new owner may have regarding the sites and related services. This is not included as part of the auction, but more of a gesture to make a transition as smooth as possible. How to submit a bid & deadline Please submit your highest bid to me via PM in US Dollars. If your bid has been beaten, you will be informed so that you can decide if you wish to increase your bid. The starting bid is set at $1000 (USD). Current bid - $2000 **NOTE** Bidders will be PRIVATE.. I ask that you only bid if you are SERIOUS about taking on the community and its associated services. Winning bid is final once funds are transferred to the current owner. All sales are final and refunds will not be given under any circumstances. Bids will be accepted up until January 1st. The highest bidder at that time will be contacted and an announcement made in due course. Questions If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask via the topic or PM. If I feel the query should be answered privately, I will contact you via PM. All the best, E
  5. An auction was something I was considering running around December time, however there is no reason why I cannot kick an auction off now. I will prepare a topic on this now
  6. Thanks for the kind words guys, means a lot. It is with sadness that I have not been able to locate anyone willing to take on the site to date. I of course understand that there is a time commitment required to take on such a project and it seems that while most would like the challenge, do not necessarily have the time to do so. So, I have made the commitment to continue running the site up until Feb 1st 2025 If by that point a new owner has not bee secured then sadly I will have to retire the sites and associated services. I hope that everyone can understand that I have draw a line in the sand so that I can make plans for the future. All the best, E
  7. Don't assume all fan controllers are equal. Do the math before risking a hardware failure.
  8. Easy to work out. How many amps does each fan pull? If the total fans amp count is higher than the total output of the fan controller, then it will blow it. You could get something like the Aqua Computer Octo to control the fans via Aquasuite.
  9. Released! Great review bud, certainly a decent AIO contender.
  10. Thanks for the suggestion. I think it is a good idea but will table it for now and the new ownership can make a decision on this moving forward :).
  11. Even though the trend does not surprise me from Nvidia, what did surprise me is how much they have gimped the 5080. 16GB of VRAM is OK and really is the sensible standard for gaming at this point in time however, to see how much they have cut the SM's and CUDA cores in half compared to ONE tier above (5090) is frankly a real kick in the face. All designed to push you to buy the 5090 obviously, but literally halving the specs between 1 segment tier is madness IMHO. Ultimately, the result of Nvidia simply being completely unchecked. They get to call the shots and that is how it is. Until there is competition, this will never change. Ultimately people do NOT vote with their wallets and people will still just eat the cost of a 5090 = Nvidia wins.
  12. Unfortunately this version shouldn't have been released due to these bugs but the dev released by mistake. Will get looked at when possible.
  13. Hello all. Quick update. As I have not found someone within the community who would be willing to purchase the site, I will soon endeavour to look beyond the community to secure a new owner, I would have liked to have kept the ownership "in house" but hopefully I will find the right type of person from outside the community to take on EHW Again, if you are interested, please contact me via PM or via the Contact Us form. All the best, E
  14. Thank you all for your kind words and I will be sure not to be a stranger
  15. Thank you for the kind words. I appreciate the resilience and work that you have put in to the site up to date. During the trying times, I did not take anyone's side as being as neutral as possible is the goal and ultimately whatever is best for the site is going to be the route of choice. I feel that it is important to state that I am only on the sites side. That of course does not mean I am not friends with the people of the site
  16. Thanks everyone for all the very kind words. In reply to the above. The sites growth in features and moving parts was not necessarily much of a negative, sure at points in the year updates would be applied and general maintenance undertaken, but nothing out of the ordinary. Having additional features for the site come at a cost for sure, some one off and some routine but I just see it as a part of getting the site right with the intention of having the appropriate feature set for PC enthusiasts. Sure some of the features have seen less use than I would have like and perhaps they would come a little later, but if I were to do it all over again, for better or worse, there would be little I would change As for me sticking around, that is a tough questions. I think when something has been your baby and is no longer under your nurture, it is hard to remain a part of it, especially if you see changes you don't necessarily agree with. It can lead to a certain level of bitterness, regardless of how good of a person you are, we are still irrationally emotional humans. I will still be very much staying in the tech world and building PC's etc but I think the days of being a dedicated or active user of any forum has come to a close and any forums I do hit up are usually support forums for specific products I have, and that is about it. I have become more of standard user over a contributor and I am good with that now.
  17. Hello all, It is with a heavy heart that I have decided to move on from ExtremeHW and community management. I have made this decision based on a few reasons. 1. Motivation/Time 2. Health 3. Fresh Start Firstly, my focus in life has changed. While I still love all the same things concerning technology, PC’s and overclocking/tweaking, my motivations are now aimed towards other life projects/goals. This has not happened suddenly and is something I have been fighting with for months now as to what I should do regarding a balance between EHW and the rest of my goals/life, but I must bite the bullet and do what is best for myself and the community and realise that I cannot have my cake and eat it. Secondly, health. Like many people I struggle with mental health and anything I can do to reduce workload & stress will be beneficial for my quality of life moving forward. This is nothing new as I have struggled for many years but as I am getting older, I am getting wiser as to what is best for me. Thirdly, I have been in this game since I was 15 years of age with respect to being heavily engaged with community activities, to site management and eventually to the ownership of my own site. The journey has been awesome, despite any challenges or sad times along the way. I feel that after 20 years I have achieved what I wanted to, but it is time to start a new chapter. My aim for the community is to find a new private owner, or possibly groups of owners who will have the right qualities for moving this site forward and growing the community. So, what now? Well rest assured that ExtremeHW will remain operational, and ultimately for you, the user, nothing will be changing up until the time new ownership takes over. If you are interested in stepping into my shoes, becoming the next owner of ExtremeHW and starting a new chapter for the community, please feel free to PM me on the site or use the sites Contact Form to learn how and what is involved. All the best, E
  18. Hello all, We say farewell to @Bastiaan_NL who has been our HWBOT Team Lead and bought members together with our various HWBOT competitions and most notably the HWBOT Team Cup. Please join me in wishing him well and thanking him for his time here at EHW. Many thanks, E
  19. Just use CAT6A. Job done. What are you doing that makes the clips break? Plastic clips last ages/forever making the assumption you are not continually bending them the wrong way. It is unlikely you will find ones with metal clips. Metal sheath over the connector, yes but I have never come across metal clips.
  20. Source At least someone is doing the responsible thing by the consumers, unlike a consumers...unlike, I don't know.... Nvidia.
