My grandfather in 2007, going against what i said, traded in his chevy trailblazer for this truck.....this is where the story begins.
through the years that he had it he kept up maintenance, was meticulous in cleaning. always serviced at the dealer as many older folks do still trust thier dealer, he had the money for it so i didnt argue
now, to put in context, this truck was not a basemodel. it came fully loaded with features we still havent used today. the DVD screen for the rear seats still has the factort cling plastic on it, the headphones for that dvd screen's audio are still in thier packages in the center console.
the interior is immaculate. he leather treated his seats 3 times a year.
now the horror part of the story begins, my grandfather had to go in for a TSB, rear hatch/strut motor malfunctions. he started having them so he had it done, all was well. then he passed away 3 years ago.
My mother then took ownership of the vehicle. and grew very attached to it.
Enter the last 3 years:
my stepfathers fleet mechanic for his buisness "intermittently" gave the truck an oil change, and when i say that, usually 5000km-7000km past due. this caused other issues.
first issue: 6 months and 30,000km+ on the odometer into her having it, the infrequent oil changes killed the VVT solenoids on the V6, we had them replaced. couple hundred bucks. a warning from my close friend and a mechanic of 40 years to "change the oil before your dashboard says to". we can all guess that never happened.
Second issue : intermittent random check engine light, the infrequent oil changes lead to the timing chain stretching and needing to be replaced, this is a vehicle with 110,000km on the clock. it shouldnt have been anywhere near needing that yet. oh well. $3000 down the toilet, truck out of service for a week for an engine-out timing chain replacement. the ting uses 3 chains, not just one. guides were done aswell while he was in there. so was water pump.
Todays Latest issue : i get a phonecall from my mother in a panic? you guessed it. something else went wrong. but this time its a part that GM doesnt even MAKE anymore. the transfer case for the rear end of the AWD system is going bad, it clunks when you drive. oh boy.
EDIT : call this a rant if you will. but its crazy either way
