I checked the notes and I figured it out (sort of). The list calls out titles that automatically enable AFMF if you press the "HYPR-RX" toggle. For all other titles that supported AFMF, which includes all DX11 & DX12 titles, you have to manually enable it in the game (per-app) settings within the AMD driver. Not the global graphics settings. Be aware that HYPR-RX enables things like Radeon Boost (automatically lowers resoltuion based on camera movements) and driver level FSR called RSR. https://www.amd.com/en/technologies/hypr-rx I personally wouldn't touch that feature but it's their for... someone I agree that so far, AMFM is "neat" but really doesn't offer anything better than a display level motion interpolation.
-
I have not but I didn’t know there was a demo. Also, I’m a bit confused but the driver release notes mentioned games supporting the driver level fluid frames tech yet you had mentioned CP2077 also supports it, yet it wasn’t on that list. I also had it running too with CP2077… so my question is, how many games support fluid motion frames right now with that preview driver? All DX12?

Welcome! I also fled OCN in the last year and haven’t looked back. I was there for maybe 10 years…ish but would be off and on. In fact when I was on hiatus from forums (3-4 years) and then went back to OCN in ~2018, the first people to help me get back into PC hardware were the same individuals that are now here. Speaks volumes eh? ExtremeHW is the only forum I use because there is a good community driven by passionate members and I also find the more you put in, the more you get out of it. -
I tried CP2077 last night and can report the same. PT + FG + 7900 XTX @ 4K (C9 OLED) = smeared butter on the screen and terrible lag. I also tried it with my custom settings which net 40-60fps. It’s… not that good. Less ghosting but still noticeable trails and the lag is really annoying. It’s maybe better than those old LCD tvs that had frame interpolation because the experience does improve if you base framerate is high enough but honestly not by much. I played Starfield with it for about 2mns in that “sweet spot” (60-90 fps) and was arguably worse than CP2077. A lot of lag and just weird pacing. Felt like motion blur that stutters. Very weird. I disabled it immediately after. The only game that I noticed it running well was Resident Evil 4 but then again, I can run that at 4K / 120 maxed out so any framegen is well above my refresh. Maybe FSR3 implementation in the direct, game rendering pipeline will eliminate some of the ghosting and lag but for now, I would not recommend “fluid motion frames”. This is coming from again, a 7900 XTX owner. I would be very skeptical how it performs on the 7800 XT or lower tiered cards.
-
Seems like Steam still reports base framerate while Adrenalin reports Framegen rate separately. I can’t screenshot it so heres is a photo. 88 Fps = 176 frame gen. Frame gen adding 19ms of lag in Starfield. Total lag at 26ms approx. Not great. I tried RE4 quickly and total system lag was 16ms. Not conclusive testing by any wide margin but I was impressed that the framerate essentially doubled. Didn't have enough time to actually play the game in any meaningful way but looks promising. Just a bit skeptical of the lag, if accurate.

Wow - I am a bit surprised it was just released. Videocardz is reporting more games have FSR3 or Fluid Motion Frames available today (is there a difference?). https://videocardz.com/newz/amd-fluid-motion-frames-now-available-in-12-games-with-adrenalin-preview-driver-only-for-radeon-rx-7000-series Edit: I just learned that... FSR3 = Developer input of Frame Generation; Fluid Motion Frames = Driver level (AMD) input of Frame Generation. FSR3 likely a better implementation of Frame Generation but TBD.

It releases at the end of the month, one year timed exclusive on Epic Game Store. RE: CP2077. I made it to Chapter 1 in 2020 and then dropped it. I am in the same boat as you basically. I’ll start a new play-through this holiday season and skip the DLC for now.

It never stops... Counter-Strike 2 Just Officially Launched - IGN WWW.IGN.COM It's official: Counter-Strike 2 is now available on PC, Valve announced today.

Oh I 100% believe you that there are other factors, I just believe that cost and form factor (not having to require on additional and expensive hardware) are the biggest. My opinion is simply based on the fact how successful the Quest 2 is versus the competition. Wireless, clean, single, cost effective solution. As much as Half Life: Alyx is revolutionary, I bet you more VR gamers purchased and played Beat Saber or RE4 on the quest. I say all of this without ever having strapped on a VR headset in my life and if I were to get a VR headset, it likely would be a Quest. There is where the development is going outside of the console market (Playstation). I would hope Valve comes out with a cost effective competitor because I could avoid a separate store front and potentially access my existing library on Steam. With the Quest 3 announced (formally) today at $500, it will be interesting to understand if and how the extra $200 improves the experience and what exclusives it may have.
-
Cost / entry point is a huge barrier for most. I think Oculus or Facebook / Meta when John Carmack was driving it (Meta Quest 2) was the most successful in terms of market saturation, discussion, and sales by a wide margin. Meta Quest 2 is $300 all in if I recall correctly and doesn't require a PC. PSVR2 will certainly be popular, the ecosystem cost starts at $1000 USD (PS5 + VR2 headset). Vavle index ($1000 + high end PC) is way too far away. Once they get over that hurdle ($) I think VR will become more mainstream. Who knows, maybe new hardware with dedicated AI / Neural processors will help accelerate our progression to a more efficient VR system. If Valve can get a product in the market, similar to the way they've been successful with the deck that is more holistic at a good price point, maybe they can get ahead.

Edit: I lied before. I was running Quality FSR 2 at 4K (it wasn't native... oh no!). I didn't realize until booted up the game again on the weekend. Posting this here as there is a new guide for CP2077 settings with 2.0 / Phantom Liberty.

Good to know about the back pack. I'll have to figure out how to do that with a controller but usually I do a quick sprint + jump + boost to jump forward faster. I assume I am still stuck in the filler but it feels slower than it needs to be. Since it's only the 3rd mission, I am sure there is some more dynamics later on but hard to get hooked with some of these characters considering how much fun I am having else where. For context, here is my progress. Star Map: Tau Ceta, Sol, Alpha Centauri and Narion I've explored fairly thoroughly. Touched a couple others but the four mentioned above I have spent most of my time. I think I spent about 2-3 hrs on the moon of Neptune alone (Triton). Some of these solar systems* I explored further because of some (larger) side quests discovered in the main hubs or just out and about on random planets. Quest Log / Side Quests: I previously mentioned a page or two back the side quest with the farmers (Failure to Communicate) but there have been other smaller activities I have done, not captured in the log. They could just be from character dialog (Sarah) on a random planet, in this case the moon (Triton) interpreting a location may be worth exploring (e.g., why is this base hidden below grade / surface level? Are they reducing risks from environmental factors or... are they hiding something?). I didn't get a quest log from it but had a fun time exploring that base. Another fun one I had, I don't recall the context, was a space station I had found. The temperatures were extremely high and everyone got roasted on the inside. There are some logs telling the events and well, made for a nice little story. Most of my time is going into the UC side quest and so far I recommend it. Especially for the Alien vibes. Seems like a more interesting plot point than the main story, at least right now. Build (long hauler): I've put the majority of my skill points into Tech and Physical because my RP (role playing) is a long hauler and I really like to lean into it. At first I was skeptical about dumping so many points into hauling (weight lifting and cargo) as well as ship enhancements but it's paying off. I'm finding myself in a lot of skirmishes in space and when you get teamed up, especially in the side quest Failure to Communicate, I was really suffering without those skills. I had to back off from that side quest until I upgraded my maneuverability, weapons, and most importantly, my ship. I have a small crew right now but I dump nearly all of my credits in ship upgrades. I'm still using Frontier but I will eventually buy and fully customize my ship. Looking for a large, super freight hauler lol. I think you may enjoy the game a bit more if you open yourself up on these empty planets. Yes, most are empty and boring but if you dig close enough, you may find something that leads into a trail of events or a side quest that makes it more memorable. Most Bethesda games offer this type of experience but I am finding Starfield, even with how fragmented the Planet to Space travel is, offering the best experience in this regard. I feel those moments matter a bit more with so much emptiness out there but it never takes too long. In addition to the main quest, which I have not played nearly enough of, I hope there are more interesting hub worlds. New Atlantis is rather disappointing. Feels flat and empty. Also contextually, it doesn't seem to make sense. Giant skyscrapers over ~1km2 and then you walk out of the town and it's completely inhabited by wild life and fauna? There is no urban sprawl or signs of any civilization outside of the city walls. Heck, even in the 11th century, there would be farms outside of the castle. Seems odd (to me) from a world building view that the city would be so particularly dense with 100m+ tall buildings and then you walk out of the core, there are essentially no roads, it's pure jungle, and dinosaurs running around. That contrast is quite emersion breaking. When I arrived on Akila, that city and world so far feels more connected. A scale of a town that seems to make sense and they have rural areas outside of the city walls that fits within it's context. Clearly some weird choices but as you had mentioned, you can only do so much and I still agree with you that the scope is too vast with what they're trying the achieve. I feel a few systems (10?) with more fleshed out worlds and a plan to add more systems over time would have been more successful than aiming for 1000 planets. I also strongly agree that the game needs some sort of land rover. Again, it could be unlocked later on to force the player to feel more isolated and walk around on foot but there are times where I simply don't care and I want to just explore more. I know that the likelihood of finding anything useful outside of that first 1km2 area is extremely low on foot so it's difficult to keep pushing further. Likely just another randomly generated cave, base, or geographical anomaly. -

30 Hours in now. Lvl 15. Started to play the main quest where I can, as recommended by others to unlock some features, and I believe I am near the end of the third mission The Empty Nest with Sam Coe on Akila (Freestar Rangers). Maybe it opens up a bit more later but yikes is it cliché. Anyone have this issue of being completely uninterested in the main quest? Is there a point where the main quest line opens up with some decent choices? For context, I’ve explored about 4 systems in between the 2nd and 3rd quest. Which has resulted in me scanning to 100% about 15 planets and moons, found some really interesting loot including a jet boost pack that launches me so high that it will cripple my legs on any planet with gravity of 0.8 or higher, an old world shotgun (870 Combat style, 94 damage, holds 6 shells) completed about 6-7 side quests, rounded up some bounties, helped others avoided bounties, got into some large skirmishes in space (10+ ships), and raided a variety of abandoned bases, UC relay / comm centres. I’m still surprised by how much unique content I’ve run across on random planets and moons as well as fun with the randomly generated content / bases. Jumping back into the main quest felt dumbed down in comparison. Minor spoilers but I was able to defuse the bank heist by simply telling the robbers that they should just drop their effort because they don’t have any other option, and succeeding with 1 point into Persuasion was a bit odd. Next step, get the map for Sam. Open the locker in the bank, oh the Dad left a note and he has it. Sam is pissed and rants for a couple mns. Go to the Dad’s house. There is about 2-3mns of arguing between Sam and his dad. His dad seems very stubborn and insistent that he won’t hand over the map to Sam, I ask him, a complete stranger from an organization that he despises, that if he gives us the map, we can leave faster. One single attempt, one line of dialogue and… It worked. I laughed out loud so hard thinking * is this. All this useless dialog for these uninteresting characters, which by the way, come off as some sort of weird satire of the walking dead (COORAAL) with out any references but their names, and it just was resolved by me simply saying that generic nonsense… /rant Loving the game, much more than I thought but this main quest, I don’t know man… -
Thanks, yes I might try that. My other settings are fairly optimized but this may push me closer to 60 fps at native 4K

Cyberpunk 2077 High (Custom) Path Tracing & Ray Tracing - 4K First time booting up CP2077 since 1.5 (early 2022) to actually play the game. I normally just use it for benchmarking or performance testing (custom benchmark). I was very surprised by how much better it feels and plays. I started to mess around in the city, I noticed thugs facing each other, with one group performing a drive by. I took out them out and police came after me and... very impressed. Feels like GTA with the road blocks and level of effort they now put into stopping you. I may need to FINALLY play the game. First two screen shots are with Path Tracing enabled. I was getting 15fps at 4K with a 7900 XTX lol. The second two screenshots (police chase) is just with RT enabled and was around 40fps. Felt fairly smooth all thing considered.

100% understand and agree that the leaked content is interesting. If the timelines were more recent (2022 and onward) and identified titles that were scheduled to be released in the next 1 to 1.5 years, I would be more hyped but I’m a bit skeptical we’ll see all these games. Oblivion and Fallout 3 in particular would be a highlight for me but seems ambitious to remake / remaster both. Irrespective of what is true… this leak from the FTC trial is pretty crazy. Especially if it’s true that it was Microsoft’s fault (accidental). -
