EXTREMEHW 48-hour Foldathon March 23rd 00:00 UTC start time
firedfly replied to damric's topic in Folding@Home
I was looking forward to the 9 month long foldathon! I think it's still says 72 hour instead of the 48 hours that we are having this month. -

We had an extra EHW t-shirt prize become available. Everyone that participated in the foldathon has already won a prize. However, there were a few people that won a forum premium membership that were not able to use their prize due to already having a membership. I have drawn amongst those participants to choose a new winner for the EHW t-shirt.... @Fluxmaven congratulations! You are the winner of an EHW t-shirt. Please send Damric your preferred t-shirt size/style and shipping info. Thanks again to everyone for participating!

It should be Wednesday, 1/31 at 6am for you. If you check the stats site, it should give you the end time in your local time zone. -
EXTREMEHW January 7-day foldathon ([H] Invite) January 24th-31st 1200 UTC

That is one of the most important things! I just started up some systems and realized I was folding for the wrong team (was still configured for a folding event for another team). In addition to the team, make sure you have a passkey configured. That enables quick return bonus points and is where most of the points come from. -

[H] had a "4p Mafia" back then churning out points. Quad g34 opteron systems (48 cores total initially). I believe each of these beasts would get 400-600k PPD in 2011-12. Someone (tear) on the forums even modded the bios for several supermicro boards to allow for some overclocking. -

I've updated the start/end times to match the information on the [H] forum post. They are starting/ending at noon Utc instead of midnight that we normally do. This means the event will begin at 7am EST/ 4am PST in the US. -
EXTREMEHW January 7-day foldathon ([H] Invite) January 24th-31st 1200 UTC

No need to sign up over there. I signed the team up and the competition is between teams instead of individuals. We'll be keeping our team's individual stats as usual during this. I'm not sure how they'll be posting updates during the competition, but I'll attempt to replicate that information here. -
It is confusing. It says 2 days in some spots and 3 days in others . This is a 3-day (72 hour) foldathon. I'll update the OP to clarify the times. Thanks for asking for clarification! ---- EDIT: I've updated the OP. Let me know if there is still confusion. @neurotix For you, the competition would end on Dec 24 at 6pm.

EXTREMEHW Foldathon November 24-26 UTC (3 DAYS!)
firedfly replied to firedfly's topic in Folding@Home
I decided to just switch my stuff back to EHW. I might change my mind if I see you passing me in their comp, though! Also, a friendly reminder that our competition begins in a little less than 6 hours! -
EXTREMEHW Foldathon November 24-26 UTC (3 DAYS!)
firedfly replied to firedfly's topic in Folding@Home
I've updated the prize list. @neurotix's keyboard prize has been updated to an open box prize. It has about 10 minutes of use while he was testing the keyboard. He will also be including blue o-rings and a keycap puller. I'll also use this post to remind everyone that the competition begins in FOUR DAYS! Get those GPUs ready! -

A few notes for this foldathon: - This is a 3 DAY event - For those in the US, this is over the Thanksgiving weekend -

Folding Time Prizes: tbd Excluded from Prizes: damric firedfly Mind the EVENT START TIMER as it is UTC time zone. Note: Stats are updated as soon as possible, but less frequent than desired. Just keep folding! Note: Extreme Team Members remember to use a different pass key than your ETF key (If you don't know what that is then it probably does not apply to you). Folding is stressful on hardware, and will often break an overclock unless it's been tested with folding. I do not recommend overclocking high end GPUs as the power draw can be extreme while folding. If anything, try tuning for energy efficiency. Casualties happen and EXTREMEHW can not be held accountable if you destroy your hardware while folding. Thank you for your participation! *must be approved so please send message in private before posting.

All it takes is some competition from teammates and I go a bit extreme.

I would keep the CPU in the socket to protect the pins while you are installing the socket cover. With the retention bracket up, you should be able to attach the socket cover to the bracket. This youtube video looks helpful if you want to see the full process of installing the CPU. For your purposes, it might be helpful to see how the socket cover comes preinstalled (e.g. orientation).
