As a newb, mine is still out there somewhere in the ether waiting for me stumble upon it. -
Forums first comp: CPUz Benchmark

Interesting video/report. I spent an embarrassing amount of time trying to figure out what RGBismus is (basically RGBism in English, a "catchphrase" of some other German TechTuber). -
protocol Ukraine War: Effects on Tech
ArchStanton replied to UltraMega's topic in Journalism & Entertainment
I was not familiar with the term. Interesting little device. Very "retro" in appearance . -
I use PBO extensively. I manipulate the power limits (PPT/TDC/EDC), play with the scaler, do per core curve optimizer counts, etc. If they provided the knob, I have probably twisted it, knowingly or otherwise . Though the system I have done this on is strictly for my own education/entertainment. Might be more circumspect if I was counting on the hardware for other purposes.

After the past 18 months or so, the fact that they can be bought at MSRP just feels...weird lol.

I saw your post in the big thread over at OCN. As I think you are already aware, I am in no position to provide any guidance in the RAM OC'ing arena. I can only cheer you on from the sidelines. I too hope to learn the "mystical arts" without simply copying/pasting the settings of others in, how did you describe it, "willy nilly" fashion .

Per Avacado's suggestions when I joined this forum, I created accounts with Mod My Mods, Performance PC's, and Titan Rig. Could be happenstance, but of the three, Titan Rig was the only one to have the items I was looking for when making some subsequent purchases. Now I just check there first by default. I hope they remain as quick on the "processing" side of things as they grow. To date, I have found them to be very "snappy" when receiving an order.

ArchStanton replied to Storm-Chaser's topic in Resolved Bugs
This is a duplicate of my experience. Desktop will reach relevant post relatively quickly (be it home or work) cell or tablet may take a very extended (haven't timed it so can't be precise) period of time to do the same. Pictures/media exacerbate the effect. -
pc gamer Intel releases the ATX 3.0 power supply spec

Aye, I'm of a similar mind. As long as the "pin out" is available it should be no problem. -

Now all you need is a few felonies on your record to make an end run around the adoption option . -

Okay, yes, your honor, guilty as charged. I have done both previously. Some of the "grave markers" have nothing below them, and one dog did not pass "peacefully in her sleep" without some assistance from me (she was very sick and old, the Veterinarian knew he had nothing more to offer her but couldn't summon the testicular fortitude required to admit it to my wife's face). -
Build Log - Sir B's Black/White/Gold O11-Dynamic
ArchStanton replied to Sir Beregond's topic in Desktop
Apologies jacking your thread Beregond. Just wanted to say this here rather than "over there", as it seemed like there were plenty of people already pointing out his mistakes and I didn't want to "pile on". Air builds up in custom cooling loop. | Overclock.net That loop makes 0 sense to me. I don't care if he has an EE rather than ME. The school should refund his tuition IMO because anybody that obtains any flavor of E degree should be able to see why it isn't going to work. Hell, EE should have a leg up given the similarities of the relationships between voltage/amperage vs pressure/flow. /rant off Sorry, that thread has been bugging me since he created it. I have so far resisted the temptation to scream IDIOT! at him. I am confident that expressing my snide comments here will allow me to continue to do so. Hit us up with some progress reports on your build when you can. I am eager to see more . -
I decided to try the "reset Windows" option available in the "settings" section of Windows 10 prior to doing a true wipe in the hope of confirming that I was experiencing a software rather than hardware issue. The reset did eliminate the issue I was having in Testmem5 (50 cycles 1usmus_v3 stable), and I will proceed with a true wipe (I don't trust all the extra folders/junk the "reset" resulted in). After the wipe and subsequent "pruning" of Windows, I'll research how to create an "image" (I think this is the correct term?) of my OS for faster recovery from the next time I corrupt some part of my OS. I got my QD3's in this morning. They are so "cute" compared to what I'm accustomed to working with.

If you value your freedom, money, and sanity...
ArchStanton replied to ArchStanton's topic in Chit Chat General
I see you have played this game before. If there are any truffles in Tennessee, I highly doubt Waddles will be motivated enough to seek them out. I'll be lucky if he is willing to eat the multitude of acorns around the house and yard. Sadly, I don't think it will work that way. When Waddles kicks the bucket, I will be expected to dig a grave and bury him with due "decorum and respect". We have a "pet cemetery" on the hillside opposite the pond. -

ArchStanton replied to ArchStanton's topic in Chit Chat General
So, when I caved and told her "Yes, you can get a pig". The next thing outta my mouth was "but it will be an outside ONLY pet!". I know I'm going to come home one day and find "Waddles" in my living... My wife and daughter will have some story prepped about how "it was too cold" or "there might be a tornado" or "the Canadians are invading"... -
Clearing CMOS did not resolve the issue. Nor did "scf/scannow". So, a' wiping we will go.
-
Then consider very carefully before having children . My daughter shares some character defects, er...my wife says I should call them idiosyncrasies in "public", with Elly May Clampett. As such, she has convinced herself that she needs a pot-bellied pig. In turn, she has convinced me to give her the opportunity to experience the joys of livestock ownership. Growing up in a household that had livestock (cattle), I don't think they make good pets. In fact, I think they make terrible "pets". So yeah. And now, without further ado, I give you the project that consumed my entire afternoon, the "Mr. Waddles Enclosure" v1.0 Chicken wire to keep the little porker from burrowing his way out.

I have "sub-zero" interest in your bag of goodies .

After returning to my previous "daily" settings and running some TM5 to verify that everything snapped back into place, I now get a lot of this: (Reference picture only, not my system) After trying other suggested fixes, the individual who posted that picture ended up wiping and reinstalling Windows to resolve the issue. I will try clearing CMOS first, but a "wipe" may be in the cards for me as well. We'll see how it goes.

I was one of those lucky few "rural" folks to live in a zip code that was selected by the Obama administration as a test location for the ReConnect Loan and Grant Program. I have fiber to my back door. It actually blows the "business internet" service we have at the dealership out of the water. I post this here not to rub salt in your wounds Pio, but as an explanation of why I, another forum member living in the "sticks", have no experience with or recommendation for a cellular internet service provider.

Opinion: AMD's GPU control panel is way better than Nvidia's
ArchStanton replied to UltraMega's topic in AMD
I've only begun messing around with it (Radeon software). Minor annoyance: needing to turn off their (data mining I think) "customer experience program" after each update. Also, does it offer the ability to save multiple, or even better application specific, overclock profiles? I notice it "runs home to momma" and defaults back to no overclock whatsoever any time any part of the system has a hiccup. It would be nice to have specific one click profiles for various benchmarks/games. It may have this functionality already and I am simply unaware, as I have not delved deeply into all the available settings yet. -
Forums first comp: CPUz Benchmark
ArchStanton replied to Storm-Chaser's topic in Benchmarking General
As someone who has been around to witness the evolution agricultural diesel engines from tier 1 to tier 5, this is engraved on my heart. -
I hadn't attempted to boot anything higher than 1900fclk since before updating to the most recent AMD chipset drivers. I had not been successful in my previous attempts. Subsequent to J7's encouragement of Beregond in his build log, I decided I would give it another whorl. I am too much of a newb to even to begin to speculate why I failed back then but succeeded now. Maybe the new drivers, maybe more appropriate voltages, maybe other things, maybe some of all of it. Following the suggestion in MemTestHelper/DDR4 OC Guide, I set primaries to 16-20-20-40 and tCWL to 16. Everything else I set to Auto with the exception of power down mode, which I set to disabled. As you more experienced folks would know to expect, memory read/write/copy went up, but memory latency took a big hit and L3 suffered terribly as well. I didn't bother with any stability testing for now. I'm still kinda in shock that it booted into Windows at fclk 2000. It was stable enough to run CBR23, but scores were naturally. Did L3 performance tank because I am unstable without crashing (some sort of clock stretching in the cores?) or do DRAM timings affect L3 as well as memory performance? I have no idea why the system is performing this way. It will be interesting to find out. I'm not sure I will put more work into "tuning" for fclk 2000 at the moment. I think I might be better served to go back to the known stability/performance of fclk 1900 and really buckle down and learn how/if the previous settings can be improved. So, after posting this I will reboot, load my "daily driver" BIOS profile, and go back to casting my net in the murky waters of the interwebs in the hopes of catching a few minnows of understanding .
-
In further reading, domdtxdissar says explicitly that his high clock speeds are directly responsible for his inflated L3 values, so that settles that. Edit: Per the advice of someone I trust, I will be s#!t-canning this particular RAM "tune" (due to long term concerns over the voltages in play). Back to the daily driver settings I was using previously and making an effort to see if they can be improved upon for my system.
