So here the Progress so far: I was able to buy the following used parts: Fractal Design Ion+ 660W Platinum for ca. 40 EUR with a valid waranty till 14.1.2032 (it has all i wanted - platinum certification, eco -no fan mode and enough power) And after a small research they apear to be not bad at all and for this price with waranty i had not much to think about.... Fractal Design Torrent Compact White TG Clear - for 87.75 EUR in an auction - but in a mint condition... But missing some extra parts like the conversion KIT for the 140/120 mm fans... but i anyway wanted to go with the 180mm ones so no problem as well.. SEDNA - 2.5" / 3.5" Hard Disk Rubber Stand ( 12 set / package ) for 79.99 USD at their online store with free shipping - had to pay customs about 32 USD it was still cheaper than if i would buy it from Amazon where the total cost was 141 USD.... IDK how for you folks but i saved a bit ... Now i dusted my old MSI Z87-G55 mobo with some Kingstone 8GB RAM and an G3260 dualcore processor cooled by my TR - True spirit power Paired with an R290 TriX GPU So for playing arround the mobo cpu combo are for sure enough, but for the real deal im now thinking about to retire my current system and use it for this project. So it would be MSI Z490 Godlike with an 10900K and 32 GB ddr4 ram.. But now my thoughts: 1, Is it meanigfull to update now? and if 14900K or AM5? 2, The current platform would deliver Wifi conectivity - paired with a 2,5G and 10G LAN conector 3, 10900K should be enough for my usecase scenario with 10 cores... and if i down clock and underwolt it the True spirit will kep it quet and chill.. 4, plenty M2 and PCIE conectivity... 5, 2x thunderbolt 3 for conecting an external GPU for folding 6, its my own HW so no doubts about the state of it.. @The Pook - how do i find out if the godlike has good IMMOU groups? Please share with me your thoughs, ideas, recomendations Thank you.

Hi Guys, do you have any experience with the MSI z490 godlike m.2 xpander-z gen 4 s? Having it in the first PCIE slot and it recognizes just 1 x M.2 disk.. both are initialized but just 1 is found... In the manual they saying that it should go to the second PCIE slot, but i have there my GPU and even if i would switch it to the first PCIE then the second one will be covered with the fans on the GPU.... And even i change the lines to the PCIE 8x8x or keep it auto nothing... Is there any "hack" how to get it running? Having now in total 3 M.2 hdd in the first and third slot... But its under the GPU and becomes a bit hot there - for this i wanted to move it to the expander as well... any advice will be appreciated.. thanks!

True, even the guy in the video I posted earlier made it in this case and as well moded it a bit.. (3D printed front with a 200mm fan opening :D) Anyway, i have true spirit power which is collecting just dust and would like to reuse it, for this reason i need a CPU cooler clearance of 171 mm ... For thi reason the torrent were looking ideal with the PSU in the upper area leaving the space for some HDD at the bottom. Here as well a small inspiration ... Link Interesting to see the chipset cooler as this.. first time i see something like that but OK.... Anyway, if there is any other case having good Airflow with a PSU in the upper position, 171 mm CPU cooler headroom and the bottom free then please let me know...

to be honest with you, first i have to take a look what Proxmox is and educate my self a bit.. But thank you for the hint! I will for sure consider it before i buy any HW (besides the case)... Well i was to slow with the Torrent case and before i decided i was sold.... But im as well found another guy selling a Fractal Design Define 7 XL Black TG Light Tint for approx. 140 USD and as well a ventilated front cover approx. 46 USD.. Im tempted but on the other hand the case is too big for my use - not having the space for it as its a bit bigger then the "Compact" Torrent and for this price i could buy directly a new torrent... And in the end i would not use the capabilities of the case to the max which means waste of resources.... Im looking to have around 6-8 HDD , which is plenty space for my personal use.... As told - a "Pre"Basic user here

for the beginning it will be for sure just a nas and "Media" server.. Maybee later to hook up on it some cameras, but not expecting to run any sites, or hosting anything.. And i have to discover the world of True NAS and the other platforms what they offer and what i could do with it... I saw soe "silencer" trays for 3,5 HDD but from the informations i found it also increases the temps of an HDD by like 10 degrees.. and then i found as well some 3,5 HDD coolers but dont know what to think about it.. I want it as wel to be silent... but yeah many things to discover for me in here

well im a not even a casual user with a Synology DS211+, for this reason this combo what you recommend has 3x more cores then i use now on my 10900K and would be waste of power basically, too much overkill for my user scenario... Im looking more into deals like 9600K with MSI Mortat mobo and 16 gig Memory for like 150 USD? Not sure if eve that would be not to much overkill.... took a look at this guy here... I like the military look of the case.. But idk - i probably got bewitched by fractal design and the Torrent model ... cant help my self... hmmm that way to small as i want to reuse my Thermalright cooler... and i need a CPU cooler height of 170mm But hey im just getting in to the whole topic But its very interesting, so i take m time and just gathering info i can.. yes wight, but my idea is that for relative cheap and some time invested you can build in the cages.. eighter 3D printed adapter (Fan/HDD cage) and stock it up and you get a nice vented NAS which is as well visually appealing Or am i missing here something?

Long story short - my synology 212+ is stilli alive but is not up to date anymore for the tasks i would like to do have/do/test/playwith... So i was looking at some options and decided the best would be to DIY.... More cost efffective, better expansion/upgrade options and i could reuse some older HW which would give me better performance for less money.. Just a upfront infomation, its a project with not an urge and will take some time, but i thought i would be nice to have a thred where i can put my questions and get some advice... Hope you dont mind to share some opinions.. First Question would be Case related... Found a local deal for a used Fractal Design Torrent Compact White TG Clear in a mint condition, for about 66,66 EUR (epic number after conversion - is it a sign? ) It has good airflow, and i like the looks but is it any good for a NAS? were thinking to buy some drive cages and mount them on the botom as there will be anyway no big VGA... Any thoughs? Y/N? pull the triger?

Im not gonna sell them, i will change the ones i have in y case and hope it will be a bit quiter.. Im using now 3x 140 Silent WIngs 3 and 7x Thermalright TL-C12 Pro. Not that im not happy with the combo, but if i can make it better (upgrade it) and got this opportunity it was not possible to resist And i hope that all the fans will be OK, after a first examination of each i could not see any problem or hear anything.. But i have to put them first in the system.....

well it strongly depends on the situation, weather and other multiple conditions, but you could make something like small wind turbines? Stacked like 5 together in a nice place where you are able to create a draught it would be giving you a bit of free electricity Its just a question of time, effort and possibilities / abilities I saw once a Spain guy which was experimenting with this kind of stuff, but he had dry conditions and build a wall of it on the roof....
