  1. Oh yeah, he did say that didn't he? I sort of glossed over it.

I'm used to using Afterburner, so I assumed the big bright number (77) was the power limit.

Aside from limiting it to 346, do you have any other suggestions on what power limit to limit it to? Fiancee is not happy about the power bill as of late.

Most work units take 350w minimum, often 400 and rarely I'll see 450. I'm wondering if maybe I should limit it to 300w.

  2. So per my last post about power limiting my card in Linux, and the fact it goes by watts instead of a percentage:

The power limit bar in my Linux OC tool starts defaulted at 450w. Avacado posted a screenshot of his power limit being 77%. 77% of 450 is 346. So when the foldathon is over, I will try setting the power limit to 346w and see how it performs.

I'm running full bore. But even if you did PL your 4090, you would still get more PPD because you are running on Linux.

Yeah I run it on Linux. OC'ed to about 2940MHz. Interestingly, I can game and bench at 3090MHz in Windows and for Superposition I can even do 3135MHz.

However, in Linux, X Windows and Cinnamon (i.e. the GUI) lock up if I OC the card over 3000MHz, and it even becomes unresponsive to key combinations to give me a terminal. This might be because I have no voltage control in Linux, as the card had the voltage slider maxed out for my overclocks and benching in Windows.

The question I'm wondering about is that in the Linux OC tool I have, GreenWithEnvy, the power limit slider does not go by percentage, but by watts. I've noticed that the majority of the time, work units take 350-400w max and very rarely, 450w. So I'm unsure what wattage to lower it to, to get 77% like you posted. Like in the last paragraph, I worry about it affecting stability as well.

You are also correct about making more points on Linux- for the majority of the last month or two, I'm doing 30m actual points and sometimes even 31 or 32m for the day.

We'll have to see; I may try just lowering the wattage slider to 300w and see how it affects my system.

Well I was beating you before you added the 3060 to the mix so the point still stands.

Not sure what your health issues have to do with us bantering during foldathons. I've never made fun of your for your health or ability to work on rigs. If you don't want me to single you out anymore, that's fine I won't. YOU have encouraged this by by tagging me and saying things like "I hope you die under a bridge hehe".

I'll never mention you again. However, if you want to speak my name don't cry when I reply.

Fair enough, I did participate in it back.

Yeah, I'd like the teasing and stuff to stop personally, but I would hope to remain on good terms with you given our common interests in anime and keyboards.

So, sorry for that and taking it kinda far, you're right that my medical stuff has nothing to do with it nor have you teased me for it. I only brought it up because I already have that stuff to deal with and being teased every foldathon adds to the stress I already go through, if that makes sense. Straw that broke the camel's back sort of thing.

Edit: also sorry this was not done over PMs. I should have not done it publicly here. Sigh. 😔

Most of the cards have waterblocks and thus run very cool so they stay boosted fairly high. Sometimes I'll sprinkle on +20 or so core just to bump it up to a number I like, but I want it to be stable so I don't go crazy on OC for folding.

As you have found out the hard way, a handful of power limited older gen cards will still beat a single top dawg card OC or not.

There really is no finding out the hard way, given you've been beating me since at least April last year. I expect it.

Also it's not a single new card- I run a 3060 as well.

  6. I wonder how my 4090 would do if I lowered the power limit to 80% and disabled my overclock. Or should I lower the power limit and keep the OC?

I've folded for over a year straight on it, but never tried seeing what my output would be with a lower power limit, and how much money it would save. Wife has complained the power bill is $200.

I may have to try this when the foldathon is over.

  7. Sorry for your loss. I'm sure when I reach your age, a lot of bands and rappers I like will pass away too. And Damn Melanie was a hottie back then.

Already lost a lot of my childhood heroes:

    Layne Staley

    Chris Cornell

    Kurt Cobain

    Brad Nowell (Sublime)

    Tupac and Biggie

    Many, many others too.

  8. Hi, I have some adverts I'm trying to renew and it won't let me. I go to Marketplace -> My Renewals and it looks like this:

    Screenshot_20240125-114733.thumb.png.b029cc255bf095d0096a624c80dbe512.png

However, when I click on "renew now" it will ask if I'm sure and say yes/no, I click yes and I get this:

    Screenshot_20240125-114743.thumb.png.cd3ef281e9b0b464b37dbae1c49e2f21.png

I don't know if this is a genuine bug or if I'm doing something wrong, but it would kind of be a PITA to have to remake these.

    Thanks in advance.

By just the usual amount unless I get lost and end up at Microcenter. That streaming rig I just built has an Intel Arc card which unfortunately doesn't support folding.

Still a cool and interesting card to have. I'd be curious what it compares to from Nvidia or AMD for gaming.

Maybe they'll be able to develop and shrink it enough that it could go in their processors eventually and provide better performance from the IGP. Afaik the integrated graphics on say, a Ryzen laptop still stomps all over Intels laptops in gaming.

  10. Also @Sir Beregondwe need all the points we can get. Any way you could set that bedroom rig with a 3080ti to just fold during the day when no one's in the room, then pause it overnight?

Protip: leave the door to the room open and it won't turn into a bakery. Believe it or not, a humble 3060 I have turns the room it's in into an oven with the door shut, but with the door open it's not hot at all.
