Windows 10 update saga continues as Microsoft re-releases KB5001649 printing patch

Recommended Posts

Quote

Over the weekend we reported that Microsoft had paused the rollout of the out-of-band patch for the ongoing printing problems in Windows 10. The cessation came after reports of installation problems associated with the fix.

Now it appears that the company has re-released the KB5001649 update, but it remains to be seen whether this finally brings to an end the lengthy and embarrassing saga for Microsoft.

Kinda funny to call this a lengthy and embarrassing saga considering what else is going on with Microsoft right now.

I just hope Discord rejects their offer. It's already bad enough as is.

If Windows buys Discord they will ruin it. My gaming community will have to move somewhere else.

In regards to the KB. It may fix another issue (Although I've already had 2 tests confirm it probably doesn't) Involving an APC Mismatched Index error that is causing some weird crashes.

Haha I was just talking about the discord thing on the other site...

I don't agree with any argument that microsoft is going to ruin discord and I think that idea is silly, based on bias and not fact. I would challenge anyone to make a clear argument that isn't just your own opinion as to why this would be bad.

Seems especially silly to think gamers would suddenly feel the need to uninstall discord from their microsoft operating system if microsoft owned discord.

There is history, look at Skype.  Skype went from being p2p to having centralized servers with government agencies having access.  They also let the Linux version die on the vine, only updating it years later with an "alpha" version.

What will happen to the Linux version of Discord?  Will it suffer the same fate as Skype?  Will every one be required to have a Microsoft account to use it?

Microsoft is a lot more linux friendly than they were when skype was a bigger deal, so likely no issue there.

To the other point, unless you have evidence that someones privacy was compromised as a result of skype being run by microsoft then I don't see the server change as an issue personally and I'm pretty sure 99% of the user base wouldn't even think twice about it.

Honestly, surprises me that most gamers run Windows OS, it's a * show. There is not much I can't do in Linux at this point. I can play play any of my games on Linux.... the pretty lights on my PC may not be as user friendly... I'm sure if I cared enough to spend more time on it, I could make it though.

It was in the material released by Edward Snowden.  Users not thinking twice about it is an issue all to it's own and it doesn't make what's happening legal or justified.

I mean, I'm not going to dive into a debate about US security policy because it's just too much for this topic but the government having the ability to monitor stuff online does not equate to people having any private info used against them via skype, or anything at all close to that. Skype would have been bought out by google or oracle if not Microsoft so servers being moved would have happened no matter what.

Gaming on linux is like using emulators. It's cool when it works but not much appeal in playing older games that take a lot of work to get running properly. I mean, its a joke to suggest that windows is a * show and present linux as a better alternative for gaming. Linux does what it's supposed to do well but it's not a consumer OS and it never will be, and that's a good thing. No open source OS could ever be the defacto OS for consumer usage because it takes real money to make that work well for the masses.

Playing only some of the up to date games is quite different than having all the newer games available. Something tells me xbox game pass games don't work on linux, for one.

xbox game pass doesn't work because Microsoft chooses not to make it work.  There are still plenty of new games that work, Cyberpunk worked on day 1.  It's amazing how many Windows games work considering that they're made for a totally different OS.

It's cool that gaming on linux has improved so much but unless a major shift in consumer thinking occurs, it's still a massively inferior alternative to windows when it comes to gaming. I think microsoft is finally getting their act together, the average consumer dosen't even really need anti virus on windows 10 anymore. Windows has improved and I'm going to give microsoft the benifit of doubt here if they do aquire discord.
