New machine learning-based cheating may threaten competitive play

Recommended Posts

Instead of simply using scripts, the reported tool requires a computer with a capture card to detect enemy movement and screen text. After processing the captured image, the cheat suite acts accordingly, sending the necessary inputs to the controller to kill the target. It's worth noting you'll still need to move the character and point it in the right direction.

"This is aim assist but more amplified without you even needing to do anything all you have to do is aim in the general area and the machine will do the work for you," stated the Anti-Cheat Police Department in a separate tweet.

In its current state, the tool will hardly affect competitive console play, mainly because not everyone has a PC with a capture card at hand. However, considering how fast cheating tools are evolving, we could see a more accessible version of the same eventually. That's when things may become really ugly for the competitive console gaming scene.

Despite being illicit in games, and even illegal in some countries, the cheating industry has developed immensely, creating multi-million dollar businesses. You may think cheating is lame,...

It looks to me like this AI basically just plays the game for you so IMO, I'm not sure it would be all that fun to use even for cheaters. All the player has to do is move around and the AI does the aiming and shooting. Still pretty interesting.

Why... I mean... WHY.

Why the cheats.  WHY.

WHY do people find PLEASURE in cheating?

It is beyond me too. It is for the land of the trolls frankly. So many online games that started off well have been destroyed by the cheating these days. Granted the game developer need to ensure they have an anti-cheat...and maintain it. Me and my pals in the beginning enjoyed COD: Warzone....but the game never got an anti-cheat system and it is just a mess these days. What I do not get, these companies are making money hand over fist....but take the money and run. There really is a lack of care for the online gaming community in my humble opinion.

I would never cheat in an online game, and I maintain that this AI cheat looks boring because it basically appears to just play the game for you, but I won't deny that there are some games that seem like they would be a lot of fun to cheat in. The game that comes to mind the most is PUBG. It would be a lot of fun to play that game with a cheat that showed where other players were on the map but even then I wouldn't want an AI to take over and do the aiming and shooting for me.

I totally feel you @ENTERPRISE

The game has descended into a wasteland where you're unable to be sure the players you're playing against are even legitimate.  Frankly, most of the blatancies are easy spot - but sometimes, you just gotta wonder.

"Did I just get walled?"

"Did that dude just HS me with hip fire?"

"Why do I lag when I'm near person X?"

INFURIATING! lol....

Funny you mention that. Eagle07/Patriot was just talking about how these unknowns came into a friendly tournament they dominate and beat them very oddly. Showed me a few youtube vids. They just knew where people were it seemed.
