DDR5-4800 trades blows with DDR4-3200 in leaked Alder Lake benchmarks

In context: Intel’s upcoming 12th-gen Core processors, codenamed Alder Lake, are rumored to support both DDR4 and DDR5. A battle between the two is brewing, but courtesy of Userbenchmark, we’ve got a preview of the potential outcome.

In the lead up to the next-gen processors’ launch, leakers have been dropping a healthy amount of links to public Userbenchmark and Geekbench results. Their efforts have culminated in enough overlap to distill some meaningful numbers.

Hmm I wonder if this is because it's early ddr5 or if this will be typical. I don't remember this being the case with ddr3 vs ddr4.

I think there are two factors

1. Early DDR5 tech

2. Immature DDR5 memory controller on the CPU.

Or because its a hybrid memory controller allowing for support of DDR4 as well meaning it gimps DDR5 full potential ?

It's pretty typical IMO.  I recall high clocked / low latency DDR3 beating the snot out of early DDR4.  Same thing was true with DDR2 and DDR3, and back with DDR and DDR2.  Once their processes mature some, DDR5 will take off as much faster.  It's just still way too early to tell yet, that's all.
