Strange Request From Family Member

My mother and stepfather both are what i call.... "technology inept" they have a hard time with basic tasks on a computer and rely mostly on thier iphones, but theyve asked for something specific, as they are to partake in an upcoming wedding via a Zoom call.

 

they want a monitor, with both speakers and a webcam/microphone built in. i myself have never heard of such a thing, i know they used to do speakers on monitors in the early 2000s. but it stopped shortly thereafter. i did warn them thet may have to give up some screen realestate to have speakers and a cam attached, if i can find one at all.

 

does anybody know of such a thing in existence?

Monitors with speakers are still very common. A monitor with a webcam is harder to find but they are out there.

Yes, all my widescreen monitors I've bought over the last 10 years with the exception of one had built in speakers, just use an HDMI connection. In terms of integrated webcam/mic, that seems less common. I personally have not seen that, but judging from the above, looks like they exist.

You can still get monitors with built in speakers, but they're kind of expensive because they usually come with a pretty decent panel. Webcam and microphone, I don't think so. I've never heard of one. I'm guessing they've seen all-in-ones and think that's just a monitor?

I had bought an ASUS monitor with all of that built-in for my aunt, but that was over a decade ago.

I was also thinking that but if they are not great with tech, in some ways it is something else to learn which can be more of a headache than it's worth. Been there before haha.

Yeah I tried to get my mom into using a tablet. It did not go well. I'm having a hard enough time teaching her to use the Iphone. Make the slightest change and they don't know what to do, even with the instructions on the screen.

People who are not computer savvy often times have an even worse time with touchscreen devices in my experience, especially if they are not used to touchscreens. By comparison, most everyone has at some point at least used a keyboard and mouse in their life.
