I already had doubts about AMD's intelligence and that POS 5800X3D threw gasoline on the fire. I still haven't healed from my deep regrets over the money I flushed down the toilet on an X570/5950X turd system. I only fault myself for that though... should have listened to that still small voice that was telling me "no, don't do it" and I would have come out of it about $1,300 richer. I enjoyed the nice Cinebench scores for a few minutes, but the overall lackluster nature of the product as a whole and the defects it carried was a situation that I found impossible to forgive.

I second this opinion!!

I have a birthday for my brother today and I will update scores tonight.

I will say, the 5800X3D is not looking promising to me at all. Why I went with a 5900X instead.

I gave up with amd with my current 6800xt.

Record sale, and got out of any trouble.

The gpu as being out since almost 2 years.

And i get black screen with their new whql driver on my desktop. Meanwhile the old driver just freeze on desktop instead 😆

And fan control at default run the gpu at 85c while custom keep it at 100% 45-55c

Meanwhile my mobile 1050ti being folding for month without issue.

6800xt average ppd is like 1.8m a real joke.

It's just a little 'suicide' run, I couldn't get it to work with 2 cores and HT. The voltage required is a bit too much without chilled water or the extreme cooling solutions.

If you could get it stable enough to play a game it could be fun, but on a single thread I don't think it'll be much.

The 12900KF on the other hand can do 5.2ghz + stable on the 8 Performance cores, that for sure helps gaming performance.

Could be surprised the i3 perform the same as the 12900k in most game.

But yea without phase change those clock wont last.

A rockitcool delid with LM to a pure copper IHS and a good WB with excellent mounting pressure. A direct die kit being readily available would be nice. KS should be creame of the crop silicon. Meaning you should be able to run those clocks at significantly lower Vcore than a 12900K/KF.

I'm somewhat conflicted about the 12900KS (which I had been waiting for re. a new Unify-X mobo). I'm still waiting for the next DDR5 RAM speed-step to arrive (soon, I hear), but by that time, LG1700 Raptor Lake is only a few months away...its release timing probably has s.th. to do with AM5...

I completely agree. I actually just got a Unify-X, it's a fantastic board so far (1 DPC has been better than 2 DPC). It really has to do with what you are comfortable spending and intended use. It is unlikely we will see higher than the 5.2 Turbo of the 12900k on Raptor lake, just the extra 4 E-cores. If you want that silicon now, go 12900KS or wait 6-8 months for the 13900KS.

Yea, I heard the G.Skill is ready to drop 7000-7200MHz kits soon as well. Might very well see 10000 broken by the summer.

Newb question:  Do you folks have to "re-learn" how to overclock RAM every time we change DDR generation?  I ask because, to me, tuning RAM seems more nuanced than anything thing else I've encountered in my "adventure".  So many little "rules of thumb" to commit to memory (the kind in our skulls, not rigs).  I presume there is much that carries over from one DDR generation to another, but I would guess there is a lot that does not.  Combining platform changes with DDR generation changes results in RAM tuning residing in the area of my "OC MAP" labeled "Here be Dragons".

...yeah, a nice set of two (32GB, 64GB) of 7200 CL32 is what I'm waiting for; should work with AM5 as well. Then again, with new Covid waves in Asia (for now), and war-disrupted materials input chains, who really knows about availability dates (and pricing)...

Whelp I wanted to add my CPU into the mix. Nothing too fancy. A 3800X.

However I am not manually OCíng. I am running PBO with a 10x scaler and 200MHz offset. And undervolting with -0.05v. My ram is at xmp settings of 3600 18-20-20-44 2T. Which is basically already full afterburner for Sammy Cr@p-dies I mean C-dies.

I broke 6000. Really proud!

4650Mhz max boost.

4.4-4.55GHz all core depending on the stress. (13754CB R23 for reference.)

what are you doing clocks wise to get 582.5 on single core on ZEN2? Im pushing 4.65GHz max boost (cpu-z 1T fluctuates between 4.5-4.6) getting 562-564

Yes, this is entirely different. There are some similarities, but many new voltages and settings than DDR4. For starters, the IMC being on the RAM itself is huge. SA voltage and bus transfer speeds are different. You will recognize a lot of familiar settings, but you will most definitely need to learn a few new ones too. This RAM also runs HOT.
