The wife and I are watching an episode of Criminal Minds, our current "spend time together in a relaxed setting watching something that occasionally prompts us to share our views on life's various 'gray' areas" show of choice.  My cell phone's notification "siren" goes off because I have left it in "work" mode (I need to be able to hear it over a running tractor/forklift) rather than "home" mode (vibrate only).

The wife:  "Is everything okay?"

Me:  "Yes, it was just one of the other 'computer dorks' commenting on a forum post I made."  I hold the phone where she can see the screen for confirmation (Avacado happens to be the specific poster).

The wife:  "His name is spelled wrong (I believe grammatically she should have said something like "incorrectly" instead of "wrong")".

Me:  "Yes, baby, yes, it is."  🤦‍♂️🤣

Yep, the ever present "You spelled it wrong moron". Was a joke way back when I was a teen. The name just stuck.

the girlfriend constantly asks why mine goes off.

the answer is usually 2 things :

1. my family bothering me for mundane and repetitive simple explanation tech questions ( i swear when i move away after college theyll all be screwed )

2, EHW notifications, in which the reply is "why do you monitor a computer forum" my answer is "because they are better brothers than my actual one" lol

You guys look at this forum on your phones?

I limit my exposure here so I don't start thinking about how to spell "avocado" like I don't think about how to spell "ludicrous". 🤣

EN.WIKIPEDIA.ORG

What I really should do is start pronouncing "Avacado" as "A-vay-kay-dough" in my head, as in, "I work a lot but I would love to find some time to take avacado."

To be clear, my 🤦‍♂️has nothing to do with Avacado's spelling.  It's a forum username, so there could be a million reasons to spell it that way, and none matter to me.  I face palmed because despite how much time she might spend on Facebook, err in the metaverse now I guess, my wife is clueless regarding "tech" culture.  IMO, there's a million ways to come up with a good username, but spelling doesn't factor in for me.

I mean my actual name isn't Arch Stanton.  Arch Stanton is the name on the grave that ends up NOT having the gold in it at the end of spaghetti western masterpiece "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly".  One of my favorite films to watch with my dad growing up.  Mom, on the other hand, was less than enthusiastic 🙂.

I'd like it if we could never refer to Facebook's feeble and unimaginative attempt at a Second Life successor again, thanks. 🤣

Her time on Facebook doesn't mean much for being able to make sense of ExtremeHW or forums in general though. Facebook is the complete opposite of tech culture. You may as well have been showing her a screen of hieroglyphics.

I hate ringing phones so mine is perpetually on vibrate or silent mode (mostly silent) and instead my Android watch vibrates on my wrist to tell me when something is going on. The only thing that can get through and actually make noise is the app for work pages if there is an outage call I need to jump on.

lol, half the time when the phone rings,I end up muttering about somebody at G.M. wanting to know who wrote a warranty for 25 years on a Chevy Impala since these people are calling to let me know that it's about to expire. Then the wife looks at me and just shakes her head like I'm hopeless.... 🤣

My wife and I recently got married. And she is like. "Stop posting on those stupid forums and rather start like a computer blog or something we can make some money off of. Because you giving out all this free tech support on the internet isn't helping us" 😅🤣

my girlfriend hung ceramic fish on the bathroom wall. i knocked the big yellow one off at 2am going to take a piss. needless to say the fish became 15 million tiny sharp pieces in the middle of the night. dont let her hang things in the bathroom. youll regret it
