I have 16 drives on hand today. More than likely you'll get one. I'm hoping there's at least one to go around to everyone that wants one. But there may be extra, depends on turnout.

 

Oops I miscounted. There's 15 drives, and apparently a random DDR4-2400 SoDIMM if someone needs that instead lol.

You aren't on one of our 24/7 Extreme Teams right?

 

If not, you're good. If so, then yes, use a different key.

 

If not, we need a couple spots filled if you are interested in folding 1 piece of hardware 24/7.

Is folding@home able to take full  advantage of the CPUs? How does that efficiency compare (GPU vs CPU)? reason being I do have a 24/7 rig I could fold with, dual procressor but weak GPU.

Yeah man. For this competition I'm running CPUs as well as GPUs. In theory the F@H server will assign smaller WUs so they have a chance to complete them. I do leave a couple logical cores unassigned to help "feed" they other CPU cores and GPUs. You can change that in the advanced, edit, change the (-1) to whatever you want on each slot.

F@H will maximize CPU usage, but many of the simulations are highly parallelizable, so those calculations are more suited to GPUs.  Once upon a time there were some very large tasks that were tailored to many core CPUs, but most of that work has been ported over to OpenMM to run on GPUs.

 

That being said, there are a number of projects that are CPU work only, and they are doing very interesting work.  Here is a list of the currently active projects: https://apps.foldingathome.org/psummary  The links in the project column will take you to a description of the project.

The OPENMM_22 core is GPU work, and GRO_A8 and GRO_A7 are CPU only.  The CPU core has been optimized over the last 4-5 years, and now takes advantage of AVX instructions so it will put the CPU to work.

Ok so Michele brought home a couple more goodies for giveaway prizes including these brand new Samsung ear buds. Apparently they are some OEM that originally came with a work tablet or something that did not get used. Anyways they look nice and are new, tamper-sealed, but no warranty and I'm not testing them before I ship them.

 

Also that random stick of DDR4 SoDIMM. I have no way to test this, but supposedly one of the other techs did.

 

Funny it was her last day at her contract IT job, and they were trying to bribe her to stay but she starts a much more lucrative Salary position with the city of Mobile, and it's like 5 minutes from our house so there's no way they could top that.

 

We have an awesome turnout. Problem is I don't have quite enough prizes for everyone this month, but I'm trying to make that happen. As of right now we have FOUR $25 prizes coming from @ENTERPRISE, I got FIFTEEN 256GB PCIE 3.0 NVMe Drives, TWO pairs of Samsung earbuds, and a stick of DDR4. Hopefully it won't be an arm and a leg if something needs international shipping, but these will all be small padded envelopes so maybe it won't be that much

 

We had a small hiccup with the folding stats for the first day, but it looks like it's fixed now, thank you @axipher

lol... I see my name in the list, I never joined in the competition since I didn't intend on folding during the warm spell... just accidentally clicked on the fah and got a cpu folding job that is lasting more than 24 hrs even on my 5950... oh well... just so everyone knows I'm not trying to be a late comer to the comp, was an accident.

I was just typing in discord about that. What the heck is going on with the score card?

I did message axi on there to let him know they're inflated. Looks like it just took points from the time stanford went down last month and added from then forward in the first update total. Maybe he can just remove update 1 somehow to fix it. @axipherjust in case you visit.

I know he's super busy but I hope he can pop in for a few minutes and do a clean-up.

 

At first I was like, wow our forum sure are folding our asses off!!! Then when I saw my own inflated score I knew something was not right.

I don't know... I seem to get those 24hr + units every time... this one it's still working on is estimated to pay out 620,000pts when its done though.  works out to about 500k pts per day.
