Welcome to the ExtremeHW Folding Competition, Saturday April 23rd

Countdown to Event Start

Countdown to Event End

ATTENTION Extreme Team Folding Participants: Please make sure you do not fold anything under your ETF GPU Passkey except for the GPU you are participating in the event with. You need to use a 2nd passkey to fold anything else in this event.

In the spirit of folding for the cause and good old friendly competition between members, we are hosting another folding competition. For more details please see below.

How to participate:

During the competition you must be folding for Team 239902
You must post in this thread with "IN" followed by your folding username.

Prizes:

  • $25 PayPal @ENTERPRISE- Won by TBD (4 winners)
  • SSD @damric I have some SSDs to give away (see post below)

Folding Time Prizes:

  • TBD

Excluded from Prizes:

  • damric, avacado, hacksword, Bastiaan_NL, mmcdonald, JosephStewartPE, Enterprise

All "Folding Time" prizes will require your username/passkey to be given to the donator, this will not give them any of your personal information, it just let's them be able to contribute full points to your username.  Passkeys need at least 10 full Work Units to start getting the full Quick Return Bonus.  Alternatively, you could setup another passkey for your Folding@Home username with a different email address and fold your first 10 units on that.  This would still put the points towards your username, but they would also be tracked by a different passkey.

Please note all winners must claim within 30 days from announcement of the winners.

Current Event Stats:

Team overall stats

Note: Stats are updated every hour at XX:25 for previous hour of submitted Work Units.  The first update at 00:25 AM UTC will set the "zero" for your points based on all the WU's submitted up to 12 AM UTC.

Good luck to all!

I have some 256GB NVMe PCIE Gen 3 drives to give away. These are OEM drives that were too small so they got upgraded. But, I know they are useful for dedicated crunching machines that just need an OS and f@h so at least 3 drives will be awarded here every month until I have none left to give away. No warranty on these, and no M.2 screws, but they are new or barely used and I will test them before I mail them out.

Please exclude me from the prize pool though.

You sure you don't need any SSDs for folding rigs?

See page 1 here. Luckily, most everyone here also folds. If you run into any snags following the guide, pm US!

I even made a similar guide on OCN 2 years back.

You can dive right in by downloading the client on whatever machines you plan to fold. Be sure to get a key with your folding username, and be sure to enter our team number 239902. But yeah the guides are good, though for me I had to ask a lot of questions as well, and I still do.

Great, thank you! I'm up an running. However, it appears to only be folding on CPU#0, as my second processor is still sitting idle. Any thoughts?

Looks like you are going to have to add another CPU on the "Slots" tab. Hope you have your fans set to "Take Off" CPU folding is HAWT

Yeah you can customize your slots in the advanced view. A lot of folks that fold 24/7 don't bother with CPU folding since it's not that efficient, but if you have cores to spare it will earn some extra points and work units during our 48 hour foldathon. I've never had a board with two CPUs like that but it looks awesome. I found that it's good to leave a couple cores open to feed the working cores and GPUs. So like on my 8c/16t CPU I fold 6c/12t, otherwise I don't get good GPU utilization. Also it's good to tune for power efficiency instead of just balls to the wall clocks so you don't run up the light bill.

Okay I think everything is more or less sorted. @Avacadosorry about the temps in F!

The second CPU is slowly ramping up. The "CPU" portion is slowly creeping up in term s of CPU usage. I had not accounted for that in my last post.

So with fan settings on 3 out of 6 which is still pretty quiet I'm getting the following temps. But you are probably right once it fully ramps up CPU usage I will activate takeoff - go around power.

Right now cpus sitting at:

CPU0: 140*F

CPU1: 120*F

You can check core temp in the lower right corner and see I'm already pushing 290W

It breaks my heart to see you still using Core Temp. I haven't used that since my core 2 duo days. What's it gonna take to get you on the HWinfo64 train? I have much to bribe with in the dungeon.

Whats wrong with core temp? I set it to view temps, peak power usage and a couple other things  Thats all i use it for.

Also if you notice i have HWINFO64 running in the task bar because I use it all the time!

I remember reading something years ago about inaccuracies in temp readings with core temp on newer gen CPU's. Again this was ages ago. I never looked back.

If you really want to put it through it's paces and fully utilize the CPU, I would add additionl CPU slots.  F@H works with threads rather than cores, so if you wanted to max out the system I would probably use three CPU folding slots, two slots at 20 and one at 26 (assuming you have a pair of 18core 36 thread CPUs in that machine). That will leave three full cores free, two to feed the GPUs and one for additional system overhead.

The lastest F@H CPU core uses AVX, so expect a very heavy system load.
