With the RTX 3090 Ti graphics card, Nvidia squeezed the last bit of performance it could from the Ampere...

I've seen a few mentions of Nvidia coming out with some really power hunger cards in its next lineup. This is the first I've heard about anything this high though.

Yikes. Feels like Fermi all over again, just amped up to eleven. Sure Fermi was faster, but the 5870 was close enough for much less power draw. Are we really back to that?

 

Also, I feel like this wouldn't be a Titan RTX replacement, only because I doubt workstation and professional users are interested in 900-watt TGP cards. That doesn't make any sense to me. I could see them calling this a 4090 Ti though, because the demographic who'd buy such a card wouldn't care.

...they must be a bit scared of RDNA3's rumored efficiency ! Also, both Galax and EVGA KPE 3090 Tis have been seen with 2x 600W of the new power connectors already (up to 1200W...)

Something is up. They have to be worried about AMD to be going this super power hungry route. I consider myself an enthusiast but im also a consumer that has to pay for products and the electricity bill. This is toeing a line for me. Im no architectural engineering but it seems like they are throwing raw horsepower into this next gen over improved efficiency. Leads me to believe they realised they didn't have adequate time to go the efficiency route due to RDNA3 and its release schedule and Nvidia decided the shortcut was to go balls to the wall to keep the crown. I think this could be another Fermi indeed.

Are you really surprised though if it's true?

You may be right. I've heard rumors that RDNA 3 will be a huge leap for AMD. Supposedly Nvidia's next cards were just going to be a refresh but due to how good RDNA 3 is, Nvidia has been trying to rush some architecture changes.
