Does anyone know how to properly prevent Windows Update from automatically downgrading my Adrenalin Driver?

Does anyone know how to properly prevent Windows Update from automatically downgrading my Adrenalin Driver?

I used DDU to prevent it from happening & even went to advanced system settings device installation to do not automatically download yet it still does it.  Should I simply disable Windows Update?  Which isn't ideal because it needs to be on to play Microsoft Store games like Forza Motorsport 7?

Thanks

Without looking at the utility, there is one I use called Winaero Tweaker. Allows you to tweak lots of Windows settings, I would be surprised if Windows Update wasn't one of them.

The other suggestions would be to alter Windows Update options through Group Policy as there are vastly more settings for most Windows components in that area, including Windows Update.

Now it is possible to stop Windows 10 from updating your drivers. By default, Windows 10 automatically installs drivers from Windows Update. Here is how to change it.

i had this issue with my bench rig recently. all i did was this:

device manager---> uninstall driver+tell it to remove from system to delete it----> install version you want-----> reboot.

it played ball after that mess. never updated it again

It just now did it again.  I know it did it because MSI Afterburner shows all 0s & the display driver crashed because it needs the driver to be patched because of modded gpu bios.

Any advice would be appreciated.

*The weird thing is im using the same 21.5.1 driver on all 3 of my machines & it only does it on my ryzen 3700x rx 550 rig at the moment.*

Thanks

Check it out I just DDU'ed & installed 22.5.1 again & checked windows update & sure enough a pending install of a different driver.

This is the driver version of a fresh 22.5.1 installation as its bug free for modded bios as the 22.5.2 has a fan speed bug for modded bios

22.5.1 = 30.0.15021.11005

Windows Update AMD Display Driver = 30.0.13023.4001 Untitled2.jpg.24d534a790120ae361d532b9d3542e96.jpg

If you want to stop, prevent or block automatic Driver Updates via Windows Quality Update, you can do so using Registry or Group Policy...

Maybe try here with the Registry Editor. I think you need pro for that am not sure but if you do it should work!

  • Solution

I just disable Windows Updates completely on all of my systems and manually install anything I deem important (which is rare) from a Windows Catalog download.

WinAero Tweaker is useful for A LOT of tweaks and I use it for a ton of tweaks.

The Windows Update Show Hide troubleshooting package form KB article 3073930 was created exactly for this purpose. Simply download the file and double click to launch the troubleshooter.  Macro$lop no longer makes this available because it gives muppets more power than they want them to have. You can grab it here:

You're welcome Brother. I hope so, too. That kind of nonsense is really frustrating. Let us know if it did. Have a wonderful weekend.
