How is the AMD Drivers nowadays?

With prices dropping so much, I am contemplating of getting this card from Newegg to play with it. However, the last AMD card I had was an XFX R290 and the AMD drivers was not nice to me, and the card eventually died and I sold the RMA replacement. With that, I am hesitant to make the plunge, but how is the AMD drivers now? What is it called?

No driver issues for me, and I have one of every AMD / ATI card ever made on their single GPU high end.  My 6900XT had some issues, but that was sent out for RMA because it wasn't the drivers.  I'm not too fond of XFX myself, but if that's the card you want, I wouldn't hesitate.  Keep in mind their RTX performance this generation isn't as good as the 3000 series from Nvidia, but otherwise they're a fantastic card.

Their drivers "Adrenaline" as they are called have improved significantly from days gone by and there are not any issues I know of. I would just concentrate on choosing a good GPU from the right vendor 🙂

me no issue with current Adrenalin 22.5.1 for my RX 470, but the windows update itself.

Windows Update sometimes update VGA driver with a different version of adrenaline , so ReLive function is broken.

I'm also in the market for a 6900xt for a spare PC. Not really worried about drivers this late into the product cycle. They have had ample time to work out any issues.

I was very surprised to see a new driver released this year for my 7970s. I put them in a rig as a joke and was surprised to see them run perfectly on a newer 5600x system.

Have you tried the 22.10.1's available for the 7970 yet?  My single 7970 is still on official drivers, I forget what the latest "official" ones were.  But I did try the NimeZ drivers before and they were absolutely fantastic on my 6970.  Brought a whole new life to the system.

Nope just the official Adrenalin 22.6.1 drivers that were released back in June. I might put them back on the Formula Z to play around at some point but the sim rig refresh is using a GTX 1070 as a placeholder for now. It will get my RTX 2080 once I pick up a 6900xt for my bedroom PC.

Same card I have, and over $300 less than I paid for mine in April.  Not a bad deal.  If that's MC, looks like they also have the 6950XT's, Sapphire Nitro or Powercolor Red Devil are both actually pretty fairly priced at $919.  Sapphire Nitro or Powercolor Red Devil both automatically usually get my vote just because, well..... 🤤

One of these days I want to go back to a Radeon card. I was always more a Team Red guy back in the ATI days. 7500 -> 9700 Pro -> X1650 Pro -> 5770 and then picked up a second one later for CFX.

I would like to see a modern Radeon card one of these days. The 5770's were the last one's I had.

And part of it is I am just sick of the Nvidia pricing schemes.

Dropping the facade of the 90-class GPUs being "Titans" (they aren't), it means that the flagship gaming GPU's have done this in a very short time:

2015: GTX 980 Ti - $649

2016: GTX 1080 Ti - $699

2018: RTX 2080 Ti - technically $999, but really it was $1200

2020: RTX 3090 - $1499

2022: RTX 3090 Ti - $1999

2022: RTX 4090 - $1599

202x: RTX 4090 Ti: $????

Okay, AMD made a liar out of my earlier post.  Apparently 22.5.1's (WHQL's for my later cards) do in fact have a bug I was experiencing.  I was having black screen problems on my 6900XT, which caused me to RMA the stupid thing.  Read the description in the drivers, and it was a known problem. -_-  It's been fixed as of 22.9.1 beta's, and I traditionally have been sticking with WHQL's.  I'm on 22.10.1's now (beta's), and the problem is fixed on my 5700XT.....it wasn't a problem on my 5700XT with 22.3.1's that I had previously, it only just started happening when I updated because I was using the system again.

It was a minor bug, very annoying, but still a bug.  What's odd, my RX 580 did NOT have the same problem on the same drivers.  So its not necessarily a 100% driver problem.  But yeah.  I'll still take the occasional odd issue like that over Nvidia killing GPU's with fire like the G92 and GTX 980 bugged drivers though.

Lesson learned:
if you DO happen to experience issues and you're leaning towards a "driver problem", read what AMD themselves say in the description of the drivers.  They might have already addressed the issue in a later beta update. -_-

Thanks for the replies everyone. Glad to hear AMD drivers are working well now. Just as I was about to buy the card, it was out of stock. I wanted that card because it has USB-C output and I can stick a 3rd computer under my desk and use my Dell monitor with the USB-C. However, lucky for me (I guess?) AMD announced another price cut. I just need to hunt one down somewhere.

Yeah, the same thing with the problems I was having with "black screens".  It was nothing game breaking.  It was more of a pain in the butt figuring out it was a driver problem than it was actually dealing with it and correcting it by trying out a newer beta driver.  My problem is solved now on 22.10.1's and I no longer have any "driver problems" to report.  Just do not use 22.5.1's on current gen cards with freesync, HDR, and a high res display, instead try 22.9.1's or newer.  I still find it incredibly odd that my RX 580 didn't have the problem on 22.5.1's, but my 5700XT and 6900XT both did, knowing my 5700XT was perfectly fine before I updated it.  But....not to defend AMD by any means, this applies to all 3 GPU manufacturers (now), its got to be difficult getting software to work correctly with a wide variety of hardware.
