Folding@Home Integrations.

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

We have recently with the help of my server admin and @axipher ported the folding@home stats site over to the EHW server.  Bar some last checks to make sure all is well, we can consider it up and running.

The reason for porting it over to the EHW server is so that nobody other than EHW was paying for any upkeep and domain costs! Fair is fair right! However having the stats site within the same server environment will allow us to do some little Folding@Home integrations. Do you remember the Folding@Home Post bits ? Perhaps even a team stats widget on the forum homepage ?. Well this is something we could bring to the site moving forward.

Before we look into any further functionality, what is it YOU would like ? Is it an icon in your post bit when hovered over will display your own personal folding stats for EHW ? Perhaps a main widget on the homepage resembling the below ?

image.png.7f39c90df5127ad70f0df63c8d6d5a89.png

Let me know what you guys think!

Huge thanks to @axipherfor his continued efforts past and present to make sure we have a stats site for our competitions as well as absorbing the costs for all these years of running it off of his own back. Rest assured that axipher will still have access to the stat site on our servers moving forward and will be able to work his magic as always 🙂

Thanks,

E

Big thank you to @axipher, @damric and everyone else on the folding team! I think a widget on the main page would be cool. Most of us who are into folding at all have embeded our stats within our sigs already. I'd like to see the widget spiced up with some EHW branding/color schemes if possible.

Return of a Postbit with current total as well as 7-day average PPD and a single signature Badge showing current progress through some preset milestone numbers would be nice.

The ETF competition is still limping along, but if we can get some more solid participation, we can look at migrating that over to EHW infrastructure as well so and integrate that as a signature badge or something.

Having a single page to go to that shows current team members and their PPD like I have over at folding.axihub.ca/display.php would be nice too, screenshot below:

We can certainly bring those integrations to the site no doubt, and I think a page as you have displayed would be awesome to for overall EHW Team stats and perhaps one for ETF ?

@damric how are we doing with the ETF ?  Would be great if we can ramp that up. Will look at what I can do for prizing.

We only have one team with 100% participation, and I personally babysit two of those rigs.

The other teams have a lot of doughnut holes for production. I know @pioneerisloud is having hardware problems. The others I do not know what's going on. I do know that certain hardware (especially Radeon GCN1) is becoming more obsolete as work units are getting more difficult. However small GPUs from Maxwell and Pascal are still doing very well at cutting through smaller work units.

I'm going to send a message in discord to rally the team captains. I'd really like to hook a few of the regulars that do the 48 hour foldathons into running some 24/7 work units for ETF.

I have commitment issues

Really I just need to slip a GPU I'm not using into a rig that stays on all the time. I don't leave my watercooled rigs on 24/7 (which is most of my rigs).  When I get around to redoing my Plex server, I'll try and get a linux VM setup with PCIe passthrough so I can run a card all the time.

That aside, I'll be getting more points up regardless now that it's getting cooler. I'll shut the vents to the office and heat this room with folding power 😂

Hey guys,

So I have been working on a basic mockup for the Folding Widget that will sit on the forum homepage. Please note that colours are not final.

image.png.fa56367b6b2b6a7b1fac6a6ded8b7c3c.png

Regarding the "Last 3 Day Folding Champion", I wanted to show who on the team was currently knocking it out of the park. After speaking with Axipher it was suggested that this be based on a 3 day output. What are peoples thoughts on this ?

All comments welcome 🙂

Thanks,

Personally when I saw the "See All Stats" button, my first thought was that it'd go to this page:

FOLDING.EXTREMEOVERCLOCKING.COM

F@H stats team summary for ExtremeHW. Help Folding at Home fight Coronavirus, further medical research, and prevent diseases with...

Then you could have a button that says something "Join the Team" or "Join the Discussion" or something under it that links to the forum, or a link advertising the current or upcoming monthly 48 hour competition.

Also, don't think the 3 day champion would change to much so I'm not sure how interesting it would be, but it's not hurting anything at all if others see value in it.

We can certainly change some text to have it read "Join Team 233902"

I avoided linking to EOC Stats as my aim was to link to our internal Stats Site which will hopefully evolve over time.

So far as the 3 Day Champion, its possible this will be altered but for now its a starting place 🙂

Thanks for your feedback.

Now live on homepage.

We just need to get the 3 day champion data collection sorted, then we are set, but for now we have an amusing placeholder courtesy of @axipher

Thanks Axi for working with our dev to make this happen.

Yeah, I will soon be adding in 7 days of points history so I can calculate ppd3day and ppd7day again.

Also working on a better Foldathon Points page that will let you select a year and month to see previous events stats and some basic graphs to show a history of points, wu's and folders for each event.

That's going to be wicked 🙂

How frequently does the team ranking get checked within the widget? The points and WU total seem to be spot on, but the ranking is behind.

Right now, never.

It's a manual check by me that I keep forgetting to check or come up with a fix for it.

Just for my education, the rest of the team stats I assume you scrape onto our Stats site backend to make our widget work, can the same scrape be done for the ranking ?

I just grab the large Team Stats Flat File from Stanford every hour which just has all the teams sorted by points and import that in to SQL.

For the Team Rank to get filled, I would need to calculate the rank based on the current list of teams but I haven't dedicated any time figuring out if ther is a single SQL command that can fill in a column automatically based on another column, or just manually assign a rank after sorting the rows by points.

Hey guys,

Just a heads up, since we migrated the sites to the new server, we have created a slight hiccup whereby the stats site is not fully functional. Mr @axipher is kindly looking into the issue whenever he is available along with our server admin to try and get it back up to 100%

Sorry for the inconvenience and apologies to @axipher for breaking things 😞

Thanks,

E

Hopefully things are working in two weeks for the June foldathon. If not, then I'm all ears for a backup plan.
