What do we think of the MP600 GS 2TB PCIe 4.0 (Gen 4) x4 NVMe M.2 SSD, Good for the price ? But what about the absence of the DRAM, would this be a deal breaker for you ?

Nice job Flux! As I was reading, I started wondering what skin of CrystalDiskMark you'd be using, sure enough was not disappointed.

 

Yeah I agree with you on the price. I picked up a 2TB Gen 4 TLC Inland drive from Micro Center with DRAM-cache and 5000 read / 4300 write for $160+tax last week. I can't picture grabbing this Corsair for $180+.

I just used the Shizuku version out of habit. After I had the draft up I realized that I might get yelled at for it since it's not exactly in line with the theme of the site. 

 

I guess since I'm the token "gamer girl" I get the kawaii pass

 

I used the pricing that was provided in the review guide but noticed that the 2TB is listed now on their site for $164.99 which is closer to where it should be.

Great review,I especially liked the fact you addressed "the elephant in the room" of PS5 usage. A lot of people who come here are not only using our comps to game,but have others who use consoles or even(gasp) use them ourselves occasionally. While the New Xbox's are locked down to the Seagate drives for additional full use space,the PS5 can use the NVMe drives if they meet the specs.

I also like the comparison with the 1Tb drive you had installed because it showed some ups & downs to the different drives. (large files vs smaller,ect.)

It's a shame PS5 doesn't support HMB. On most systems modern enough to fully support PCI Gen4, the lack of DRAM isn't really noticeable in real world usage since the drive has HMB. 

 

Both the MP600 GS and the WD SN770 are DRAM-less drives and they perform similarly well in a PC but both would be bad in a PS5. 

 

After the review I swapped the SN770 for an SK Hynix P41 Platinum which is one of the fastest drives on the market. For just farting around the OS and gaming, there isn't any noticeable difference in performance.

 

I did test the drives on Ryzen 7700x system and they were slightly faster than on the Intel setup. I wanted the review to be easily digestible and to not overload people with information. However if people want to see specific benchmarks or applications tested, or comparisons with different hardware I'm always willing to run them again.

Fantastic and thorough review!  Loved the little personal touches you put into it too.    Kinda making me want to go out and buy another NVME drive now.  I need one anyway, maybe after Christmas.
