It was a folding stretch of time/competition that we designated towards the cause. The site periodically will create new badges for little mini participation events like that.  If you click on the badge it will take you to the page that explains the event.

Hey guys, a quick question:

In my folding web control, you can choose which research to support from a dropdown box. At the bottom of that list is one labeled "high priority". I was wondering if I change it to that if I might make more PPD? Thanks.

It might be less PPD. I have no idea. All I know is your rig is going to crush the foldathon next weekend.

So my 4090 gets estimates in f@h web control of 30~31 million PPD, but whoever claimed the 26m thing is probably more accurate. Take a look at my daily production here: https://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/user_summary.php?s=&u=1311203

You'll see it's closer to 25-26m a day.

Also, sometimes I get work units that f@h web control estimates only give 17m PPD, and for some reason these only utilize 90% of my card and make it run at 50c (with 80% fan) whereas the others estimate 31m PPD use 96% of my card and heat it up to about 62c.

Regarding my crushing the foldathon, not if other people have 3090s, 3080tis etc. and run more than one card. But to say I am pleased with my MSI 4090 Gaming X Trio is an understatement. Especially the memory on it, I'm running it at 12201MHz and stock is 10500MHz I believe. Unfortunately running one CPU core that the GPU needs to stay loaded, and having the card folding, my CPU temp readout on my POST code display is always around 60C, otherwise I would fold on my 5900x as well. If I tried I am 100% confident the system/CPU would overheat probably instantly and just shut off. But I don't think a 5900x would give very many points compared to my 4090 anyway.

My single 4090 is averaging 20-25 million PPD atm. No tweaks of the card, just out the box.

will be fun to see what happens when cards 2, 3, and 4 get installed

Mine is slightly overclocked, I can do 3090MHz core for benching and games in Windows but I have folding set up in Linux as it acts as the house server. It only does around 2850MHz core in Linux and the overclocking app in Linux does not provide voltage control. If I OC it higher than 2900, then every few seconds my app shows the core dropping down to 2000MHz for a while then coming back up, and my PPD goes down the drain.

So it's running at 2850/12210MHz, plus I'm using Linux and you get more PPD running folding in Linux, so it was always said. (And jeez man 4 of them? you'll make 100m PPD easily)

I’m currently working on a big system upgrade and the case itself(CaseLabs) houses two systems. Have the space so going to make the most of it.

One of the 4090s is for my gaming rig and as of this moment, the other three are for the folding rig which will be on water and Linux when done

The ones that show 31m PPD take as long to complete and give like 900k points.

Thank you so much! Just did it. Gonne check /etc/fahclient/config.xml to make sure it's there. If this keeps me from getting those waste of time garbage units I'll be very happy.

EDIT: After doing this I immediately got a unit that gave me the highest PPD I've seen yet.

It's kind of funny how it works sometimes and no WU's are guaranteed even if preference is selected. It merely "Requests" units of that particular research, it does not mean they will be given. You are going to see different kinds come through and there really is nothing you can do about it. WU 18601 is the cream of the crop right now. It's weird that you are folding an Alzheimer's unit, but it says your contributing to Project 18449 which is Influenza (Unselectable in preferences IIRC).

There are ways to circumvent bad WU's though this is really frowned upon because all of these units and research categories need love. If you get a bad WU, you could in theory make an unstable OC which would result in a failed checksum at your checkpoint interval and lead to a failed WU. This would cause the client to request a new WU from the assignment server. Again, very frowned upon and you should not do this because it hurts F@H as a whole.

I used to just go find the work folder when I folded in Windows and delete everything in it, which would give you a new work unit when you started the client again.

I have no idea where the work folder is on Linux, but I don't intend to do the same thing, nor what you mentioned.

It's not just about the points but it's about the cause- I lost my Grandpa in 2021 to COVID-19 and I lost my Grandma in 2019 to cancer. She had various types of cancer that metastasized and so forth and ended up dying from a brain tumor, I believe.

What are you folding on currently? It says you're the #2 ranked producer for the team behind me.

Also, for your watercooled 3x 4090 setup, what distro of Linux will you be using for it?

Try Linux Mint 20 with Cinnamon. Or any other Ubuntu or Debian varient. It's extremely easy to set up the fahclient and it runs as a system service. By default it will fold on your CPU, and you configure slots, passkey and username in /etc/fahclient/config.xml (requires root priveleges to edit). With mint the command in a terminal is: sudo xed /etc/fahclient/config.xml

If you need any help feel free to ask. I've been using Linux since 2003. I might not be able to help much if you use Arch, Fedora or anything else that isn't Ubuntu .deb based. But I will try.

EDIT: Here's an example of my config file for 1 GPU. I just had to go in and change it from CPU to GPU really. In your case, you will have to add slots, it is pretty straightforward (just copy and paste and change numbers):

<config>
  <!-- Client Control -->
  <fold-anon v='true'/>

  <!-- Folding Slot Configuration -->
  <cause v='ALZHEIMERS'/>

  <!-- Slot Control -->
  <power v='full'/>

  <!-- User Information -->
  <passkey v='7767d529b42f9961ccfbab6fcb7e0494'/>
  <team v='239902'/>
  <user v='bigred'/>

  <!-- Web Server -->
  <web-allow v='127.0.0.1 192.168.86.37'/>

  <!-- Folding Slots -->
  <slot id='0' type='GPU'>
    <pci-bus v='9'/>
    <pci-slot v='0'/>
  </slot>
</config>

To access the client control, you will need to change the web allow address to your PC's IP after 127.0.0.1 and then the control and status can be accessed in a web browser at http://127.0.0.1:7396/ (it will always be port 7396, since I'm forgetful with numbers I just bookmarked it.)

I also recently opened port 7396 in my firewall and allowed it for the internal subnet, and changed the config file web allow to 255.0.0.0 as well, hoping I could connect to the server on my phone and check work unit status but all it did was load a blank page. 😕

Premium Platinum - Lifetime

Does anyone know what's up with folding.extremeoverclocking.com? Half the time the page doesn't load and I get a 404 error. Also, it doesn't seem to be showing accurate stats currently for me, it says I've only done 11 WUs today since Midnight and it takes my card about 45 min to complete an 18601 so I know I've done more than that in 12 hours. How often does that site update? At this point in the day I generally have 15m points but it's only showing 10m.

I even went into /var/lib/fahclient/log.txt and looked through it because I thought maybe something was wrong and I was failing WUs, especially with my high GPU RAM OC but everything appears normal and I see no failed units.

Edit: Nevermind maybe? I just looked at my hourly production and it appears folding.extremeoverclocking.com updates every 3 hours??

Yes. The site is every three hours. Also, sometimes it will miss an update, but the completed WUs will usually turn up on the very next update. FYI, you should not OC your RAM for folding. Core OCs only. There is no benefit to RAM OC at least not on any cards I own. This may have changed on the 4000 series, but I highly doubt it.
