So, joking or not, they were very disrespectful to @firedflyand that is not something I will stand for. He produced over a billion points for their team and they had negative things to say about him. I fully expect that no one from this site participates in their events moving forward. I for one am glad I didn't.

Hey there, LTT Folding Team Leader here, don't forget we have prizes, to partake in the event you need to fold for teamLTT 223518 and sign up to the event using the google form on the OP of the event thread

I think you owe @firedflyan apology. You can not ask for support for an event on your forums and say those things. It may have been all jokes, but many of us took offense to your verbiage.

Pretty disrespectful language to say about anyone on their team or who joined their team who produced a BILLION points. Very disappointing to see.

Very nice job @firedfly👊

This is something you should be aware of. I have messaged GOTspectrum and reported that thread on the LTT forums.

I am all for inter-community collaborative events. While I cannot judge an entire team based on the comments of a singular person, I am disappointed to see those comments towards @firedfly. It is possible their is some lost context but either way the comment is in poor taste and I would like to think that irrespective of a members contribution, you would not face discouraging comments.

I think that communities should always band together for worthwhile causes and the sharing of knowledge, and that should continue. The comments of one person should not erode at that goal.

I think you are assuming some kind of malice or bad intent that isn't actually there. No person has or would ever be disparaged from participating in F@H during or outside of an event. While yes our team has quite a bit of banter and ribbing it's always in jest and between members who know each other and understand that. The intention of that comment was how impressive it was to attain that many points in a lesser number of days than others and were available, not to complain or otherwise that every day wasn't counted as participating. Lots of people don't or can't be active or complete a WU ever day and it does not matter at all, we only have requirements for prizes to prevent ill-intentioned participation for the sole purpose of prizes and not to actually fold or compete. Prizes are an unfortunate double edged sword, we get lots of signups from people that don't even fold at all or complete only a few WU and the minimum requirements were put in place by the request of the community itself so prizes went towards those who were more deserving. If it were not for that number of days participated would not be tracked at all.

As for if anyone were offended by the comment made I would say that is best to come from that person themselves, everyone sees and interprets things differently and it's actually not for you to say if they were offended or not. No community needs to have unwarranted unrested drummed up for no reason or from simple misunderstandings. If firedfly was unhappy with what was said or the way it was then we are sorry, nobody should come away from the event thinking they were not welcome or their contributions were not valued.

All that said better care will be taken in future to try and avoid such situations, it's not much extra effort to directly state how or why something was impressive and if that were done I wouldn't have to be posting here about it.

It is completely up to me to speak out when our members/staff are offended, yet do not want to come forward directly. Surely you understand defending your forum members as that is why you replied here. We wish no ill will towards your community and just wanted clarification and an apology, which was given. No harm, no foul. Thank you for posting this.

I'm glad you guys got that all worked out.  I wasn't folding, but was seeing some of the drama popping up.  I do agree with our team members.  The comment, while possibly made in jest, sure, was a tad distasteful.  I can 100% understand how it could've been taken badly, by ANY member of our team.  Firedfly had produced over a billion points for LTT, which directly helped their team.  11th place on a competition, with a team of YOUR size, and then somebody bad mouths the efforts.  It was a low class move.

With that said, again......I'm VERY glad you guys got that all sorted out.  Let's keep the trash talking DURING the event next time maybe, huh? 🙂  We, here at EHW can certainly understand some playful banter and trash talking.  So long as everyone involved KNOWS that its just banter, then its harmless.

My assessment of it was that it wasn't just that sole blog post and how it was said. Being in the top 10 the daily production of zero in the tail end of the event was in most daily blog posts so feeling already a bit singled out isn't unexpected in my opinion, that being a factor or not I don't know. I can understand the desire to provide commentary of it over the event and at the end since the top 10 gets a good amount of focus, it is a competition after all so relevant competitive commentary will happen but as is apparent here to be done in a better way that has no possible way of being negatively received.

Hopefully you can tell I and other forum moderations weren't exactly pleased with the effort and care taken within the original comment in the final event blog post.

Please do come on the behalf of someone else however explain that you are doing so, not assuming this was actually the situation was an error in assessment from me, mistakes happen. As you can probably assume we get a lot of complaints that can lead to nothing where a person may even have no idea about the situation or didn't have a problem with it. I wasn't actually saying anyone here couldn't/shouldn't dislike what was said and express it, it was just the demand from someone to apologize to someone else without even knowing if they wanted one, for the former reasons.

I am a realist, not everyone is going to gel with each other and that is why many good teams and communities exist. What I actually care about is the event, having many participate makes it so much better and it's taken a good amount of effort to have it now running consistently with that many participating and even more will only make it better. What I want is for people to return and keep doing it and bring others with them.

Also we don't actually check where people come from or how active they are/were in the LTT team, it's an open event to anyone of any means. By default everyone is Team LTT and we don't know otherwise unless told. The majority of the work and even the signup validation is done by the script I wrote which just uses the F@H hourly CSV exports and filters for signed up folding names and if their current points are associated with LTT team, if not then someone checks Extremeoc/F@H website (before event start) if the folding name is valid at all. Individually checking more than 400 signups and noting where people come from is far too much work. Posting on the LTT forum topic for the event and introducing yourselves is the best way for everyone to get to know each other and we'd actually like to know if anyone changed away from their regular team to join the event. I actually wrote the script in the first place because the event went from less than 100 to more than 9000 signups during 'that thing that happened', it's very much a situation of good enough and if it's not broken don't fix it. I should improve it and add useful functionality to it but I know I never will 😅

Oh man, I came in here just to give a shout-out to the their Twitter post acknowledging us:

While I have my own opinions, hopefully we can put this behind us as a learning experience and keep working together on Folding@Home as a whole and continue increasing the interest of potential new Folders with future events on either side.

I can only assume that was @leadeater's doing and is way more exposure than we were looking for. With that said, thank you for including us in your tweet. We hope to have a few of your members join us for our annual F@H compo coming this Feb. Thank you again!
