LG is teasing its new "Velvet" smartphone, and over the weekend it released a video showing off the design and a key spec. LG says this "Velvet" phone is the first of "a new product roadmap" and that the company is "moving away from alphanumerical designations" in its branding. In other words, the LG G series is dead, and this is the phone that would have been the LG G9.

I'll be keeping my eye on this one I think. My Galaxy S8 is still going strong it seems, but I haven't really figured out what I'll replace it with when the time comes, and a headphone jack is a must. I've also never been bothered by the subtle curve in the screen, I'm a little surprised by how much the article was complaining about that.

Headphone jack is a must for me, not bothered by having a super slim phone, just give me my jack and you can take my money.

The thing is, it's not even an issue with making the phone slimmer. My iPhone 11 is more than thick enough for a headphone jack, they just decided to not put one in. It's nothing to do with being water resistant either, there are plenty of water resistant phones out there with them. It's just to sell proprietary hardware.

You are right. It is a great tactic to sell hardware. Air Pods for all !

Imo the LG G6 is the last good/perfect phone they put out. Amazing feel in the hands, Great camera setup ( The first dual lens setup normal and wide ), Type-C, Wireless charging, IP Ratings, No BS front notch or camera hole, Micro SD Slot, fingerprint reader AND A HEADPHONE JACK. It launched at $650 which today is dang near unheard of for a top end phone. Then they threw it all away with each new phone. Going 3 years strong and i still have no interest in upgrading. The Asus Zenfone 6 almost won me over to upgrade but its been out of stock for months. LG just cant seem to upgrade their designs these past couple years stuck in the same mediocre feature loop. I really hope they pull out of this rut so i can upgrade and stay within their product lineup but im honestly losing hope.

I am still rocking my Huawei P10 Plus. Great phone, still no incentive for me to upgrade. Sure there is "Better" hardware out their now, but nothing I would take advantage of...nor see the operation difference.
