2x OBT Debug Cards By Elmore. New ASUS ROG Strix Z690-F did not come with onboard power/reset or debug leds. Weird for a board that cost $400 this day and age.

Doesn't necessarily surprise me--Isn't that a lower tier board?  When did it hit the $400 marrk?

 

I just checked the pricing on their Apex and sheesh, $820 for the Apex, and a whopping $1375 for the Extreme.

Yea. Z690 boards are no joke. Turns out the ASUS Z690 Prime-A I had was actually the reason my RAM kept dying. It killed 3 kits of DDR5. That board was $250 and not worth anyone's trouble. It's the most I have ever spent on a board ($400 Strix). 

 

NVM, forgot about my Gigabyte X399 board.  Think it was over $500.

That sux--did you get any sort of compensation from Asus (or the seller) for the loss?

I did not. But I got my money back. This will be the last time I use New Egg. I had to speak to a manager before finally convincing them that after the 3rd kit, the board was bad.

Yeah, have not heard good things about Newegg customer service lately. Glad you at least got that sorted, but 3 dead kits of DDR5 really sucks.

The memory arrived early so I can install it right now. And yes I agree it's pretty good stuff.

 

I've had my original 16GB kit up to 4733MHz during cold weather benching. Wondering how a full quad core memory kit is going to affect my memory latency. Guess we will found out soon enough. I cant run these settings in normal ambient temp, however.

 The problem isn't the ram going up high it's the IMC on the CPU that can't do it

Well that was a total waste.  Should have done the research first and I would have realized this CPU only supports dual channel memory. arrrg

 

EDIT: Anyone want to buy a like new Patriot viper steel 16GB memory kit? Ill throw in a member discount. Please PM me.

Lol Newegg, I have gone through 3 defective Z390 motherboards from them. Each having a different issue (dead PCIE slots, dead secondary BIOS (which was the biggest PITA to refund), dead USB ports) with them. I hate to support Amazon but honestly with their nearly no-fuss return policy it's more appealing than Newegg... and Canada Computers is basically in-store only now since the pandemic for things I actually want (CPU, motherboard, RAM, GPUs).

Plus Canada Computers CS is worst then Newegg though Newegg is really been crap lately. Denied my refund for my Z690 Extreme due to a defective GPU lock then take over two weeks to send it back to me, giving me the runaround each time I asked and flat out lied it was shipped multiple times when it wasn't. 

 

I really miss NCIX

I took a full sized color picture of the board and socket with perfect pin alignment, along with a date/time stamp in the return box. I really hope they try to tell me I did something wrong.

I'm quite lucky in that there's a Memory_Express and Canada Computers kitty-corner to each other, less than 5 minutes from my home. The Canada Computers location there used to be occupied by NCIX...btw, I'm still horrified at NCIX's shenanigans re. open credit card DBs etc.

Most have poor CS and will find any reason to deny RMA's, unless it's an issue like mine where they can easily point the blame at me you should be ok. All the flack atm over Newegg was an open box item that came with bent pins, considering it was open box no store or manufacture would of accepted that RMA. So it's not really an issue with their CS, it's more that they sold a board that was clearly broken.

A lot (most?) of the EVGA cards can be registered for their step up program within 90 days of purchase (when new).  Depending on what your original card is will determine options when stepping up.  The 3070ti was the best card I could step up to.

 

The cost to step up is based on your original purchase price.  For me, the step up price was $500+tax+shipping.

...don't make my own anymore; just buy sets similar to these as I don't use wifi and also have some fixed IPs
