Yeah honestly wasn't sure if that was something they were still doing.

They are still doing it.  They recently added restrictions on what cards you can step up to based on your original card.  There's also a queue involved since they don't have enough stock to fulfill all requests.  It only took me about 2 weeks to get notified I could do my step-up.  I think it took @BWG about 9 months to step up to a 3090.

Nah, it was about 2 months. Not too terrible.

Ubiquiti WAP 6 Lite, 802.3af PoE injector plus a crimping tool, RJ45 connectors, CAT6 cabling and it's almost all coming from different places so things are arriving bit-by-bit. Had the WAP for awhile now but the PoE injector was sold out almost everywhere... ended up spending $30 to just get it from another store despite it being only $10 on Ubiquiti's website image.gif.a7a24f91ae18041fae5bbf09e90a5689.gif

OK, it is not anywhere near on the level of the custom backplate that Brother  @iamjanco  has on his 3090 K|INGP|N that I am so envious of, but it is a definite improvement. There really is not an elegant way to mount it to a K|NGP|N card other than a custom backplate fabrication, but this worked well enough. Temps would be even better with a slick backplate that is completely flat with no design lines carved into it.

Comparison of stock EVGA 3090 K|NGP|N backplate thermal pads vs. Fujipoly full PCB thermal pad (from OptimusPC) vs. Fujipoly full PCB pad plus MP5WORKS block. The test used was EVGA OC Scanner's Furmark Memory Burner test. The first two tests were run for 5 minutes each. After installing the MP5WORKS block I allowed it to run for 10 minutes.

I would love to do that but EVGA doesn't even sell o-ring kits for the Hydro Copper blocks. I seriously doubt that they would sell me the replacement back plate, but it certainly worth asking about. In fact I think I will. If nothing else I could use it as a template with a fab shop to have them make one for me. Would be really cool is to make the back plate and block with fins all one piece with the MP5WORKS Plexi top on it. That way the water block plate would be the entire back plate surface.

So, are you happy with the results? That's all that really matters in the long run. 🙂

I've been tossing around the idea of redoing the copper backplate on the KPE 3090, but that probably won't happen until it needs a repaste. That first run really was just a prototype, and I've made a few minor changes to the artwork since I had that first plate made. If and when that time comes, I'll send you a heads up to see if you'd like one made for you as well. You'd have to do all the hand polishing (it's a lot of elbow grease), but I would drill the holes that you need.

Anyways, just ordered the following block with active backplate for the Strix 3090 after reading about it here and there on the 'net. Coming direct from China, it's roughly $130 cheaper than buying it here in the States (though I might have to pay customs on it; we'll see when it arrives):

2022-02-19_23-08-58.jpg.6e9f3bd58082ebf58257bae423bd2702.jpg

I've also got the Phanteks block for the Strix on its way just in case I don't like the Bykski.

Gonna try out Bykski's flow/temp meter as well. That's also cheaper coming from China.

Yes, I am happy with the result, but I would love to have one. Please do keep me in mind. I may need to provide a height measurement since the Z490 Dark has the VRM heat sink next to the GPU. The block won't fit between the GPU and the VRM heat sink, so it sits a little higher than ideal.

If only I were getting off that easy. Flowers and chocolates would be the easy way out. Instead the price is a four-day weekend and repainting all of the interior walls in the main living areas of our house. She's definitely worth it, and then some, but I don't know that the parts will be, LOL.

But, I would do it for her just because I love her. I guess I shouldn't tell her that or the price might go up. 🙂

Oh man! When did it come out?? Was waiting on these. I want the Classified.

The Classified queue opened up some time back, while the Dark queue opened Feb 17. Both queues have since been locked down though (meaning autonotify has been disabled on their respective product pages); and only 15 or so Dark boards have been shipped thus far, at least as far as one can tell via the tracking of that queue.

They may have shipped more Dark boards as not all who've ordered post that knowledge to EVGA's forums.

Hey ASUS! Do you see that hole in the shroud just to the right of the EVGA branding?  That's so he doesn't have to take the freakin' shroud off to attach this puppy to the motherboard tray.  It's almost as awesome as not needing to take an NVME heatsink off to add the final motherboard mounting screw.

This.... 😂
