Erm, no idea bud. This would be hard to diagnose until it was a fairly repeatable issue.

Ordered a replacement heat gun from Lowes (used my military discount), as well as the extended warranty for it. This one's got dial-in temps from 125°F to 1300°F, and a digital readout. I'm hoping it will make heating up acrylic tubing a little easier.

How much did one of these run, and what is the ideal temp for acrylic? Been using the low setting on the cheap heat gun I got at Harbor Freight.

I believe right around 300°F is the magic number for acrylic (not sure what PTEG is), but I've never been able to put that to the test since I've never had a heat gun with variable temps. There's also a lot of other variables to consider of course, like distance from the heating element, rate of rotation, etc. I'd hazard that unless you built a special jig that included a temp controlled heat source, and also did the timed rotation, back and forth movement, etc., coming up with a value that's truly accurate might be a bit tricky.

 

...and no, I won't be building any such jig if anyone's wondering.

my intention eventually is to collect flaship cards from 3000 to 6000 series of AMD, and 8800GTX to possibly 480 or 580 on the nvidia side, i'm trying to get cards with vanilla AMD coolers (because transparent red is cool) and BFG/EVGA for the nvidia side then i will mount them on my wall behind my desk as display items, working or not

Very nice. May not be a flagship, but I have an EVGA GTX 570 HD if you want it.
