Looking good @iamjanco 🙂

It must be nice to have all those QD's. I decided not to go with them in my build, because even inside one of the 'biggest' cases I could find there is still not enough room.

Will you add some color to the coolant or do you keep it clear?

Thanks, bud 🙂   I might add some color once the Optimus block shows up.

Time to dust this thread off and get back to basics.

3090 Strix OC showed up. At first glance, it appears more massive than the KPE 3090, but that's mostly because of its huge air cooler (vs. that of the hybrid version of the KPE).

Newegg's packaging was tight, and all OEM seals were intact, with no obvious QC issues noticed up front (e.g., scratches, etc.). Mentioning that because of the video posted by GN's Steve earlier today about issues he and others have experienced with Newegg's support services/RMAs. Some of you may have already seen that video.

Anyway, plans are to mount this 3090 on my SR3 dark and see what it will do. Will also be researching available blocks for the card, and ginning up a water cooled, copper backplate for it,  like I did for the KPE.

Getting there (just an update):

I'll probably go over it with GORD's one more time and call it ready for mounting. Going to track thermals and flow using this setup with the Hydro Copper block, then bump them against the readings I take using the Optimus Active block set.

After I've waited a couple of days and tightened the screws further, the screw holes will be filled with thermal putty so that they're flush:

As a prototype, it's good enough for government work:

kpe-backplate-mounted.2.thumb.jpg.0b0b9db8a802336dd4cb62dae256c650.jpg

If I were going to mass produce this backplate, I'd make the following adjustments:

  • I'd shave a bit off the copper by the NVLINK cap upper left screw (right now, that's the only thing that didn't line up perfectly), and;
  • If going full cover thermal pads, I'd leave out the slots and EVGA logo.

Otherwise, it should work nicely with the Hydro Copper block until the Optimus Active block arrives. The NVLINK cap is secure, and leaving the one screw out won't hurt anything (except perhaps someone's OCD). It's really not off by much.

I am beyond impressed. Other than flipping the G1/4 ports on the opposite end, I want that... real bad.

Might as well move the Yuel Beast Atlas II (my Z690 project) stuff to this thread. Been pretty busy lately...

Anyway, so I've got the mounting more or less figured out for the dual D5/dual res/manifold combo, and am starting to rewire/sleeve the pumps. I'll combine the 12vdc lines and gnd lines from both pumps, but keep the pwm/speed lines separate. Also going to see how the 3M Di-Noc looks on the pump housings, top covers, and possible even the surface of the clamps holding the pumps to the manifold. The pumps will be wired to the psu, while pwm will be managed via an AquaComputer OCTO and AquaSuite.

Also included below in the first spoiler are my favorite crimpers.

I'm also going to order some black anodized low profile KLUs and some black anodized aluminum angle, combine the two, and come up with a custom bracket that will direct lighting from an AquaComputer RGB strip into the far side of dual D5/dual res/manifold combo while more or less hiding the strip from external view:

As for other work, also will need to start working on EHW sanctioned reviews of two new Cooler Master PSUs:  their XG750 & XG850 Plus Platinum Full Modular ARGB lineup. The PSUs are scheduled to arrive tomorrow, and I'll start laying out the review post for them next week.

In between all that got a web site I need to fix for someone after they turned their SEO into a fubar'd mess.

What is that chassis/frame being used in the build? It doesn't look familiar to me. But, it looks like something I should familiarize myself with.

The 'case' really isn't a case per se, but an open air framework. It's the Yuel Beast Atlas II, which is currently sold out. They're a very small shop, but working very hard at being successful, and have a very active Discord channel. Oh, and they will eventually have another run at the Atlas (their runs tend to be cyclic).

lol, thanks. I just finally got a notification that Optimus has shipped the block for my pook's 3090 Strix.

I might do a copper backplate for it; if I do, I might also fine tune the design for the 3090 Dark.

...in between everything else that is (thinking about running for POTUS in 2024).

PSU's looking good, though I would assume you'd go with EVGA instead. Any particular reason besides RGB?

I've actually installed a Seasonic Platinum 1300 in the rear; those Cooler Master PSUs were sent to me for review purposes.

I might throw an EHW giveaway contest once I'm done with that work.

Oh, and as for taking my stuff, bring plenty of Band-Aids. Preferably large, highly absorbent ones.

It is a relief knowing I am not the only person  that finds that design flaw stupid and inconvenient.

It is  scary to think that people that design stuff we use are that dumb.
