The codename of 100-000000061-08 might later be verified as we learn more about Zen3 processors in the coming days. It’s worth noting that a similarly codenamed variant has already appeared in the rumors. Igor’sLAB once posted “100-000000061-06_49/37_Y” allegedly referring to 16-core Vermeer CPU, but it was later said that the processors are in fact 12-core. The new “08” variant might be a newer revision with higher clock speeds.

 

The processor allegedly scored 652.8 points in a single-threaded benchmark and 9481.8 points in multi-threaded. This is +20.3% and +14.4% respectively higher score than Ryzen 9 3900X. Both processors are expected to feature the same 12-core configuration. The clock speeds and architectural improvements over the Zen2 variant are yet unknown.

Yeah, I just bought a server rack and UPS battery module when I wasn't able to snag a RTX 3080 as I'm really hoping that Ryzen 5000 and Navi 6000 are launched closer to the end of the month so I can pad my bank account up again...

 

Luckily this year with COVID, I've been spending significantly less money on gas, insurance, takeout, phone bill (reduced my plan since I'm always on WiFi), restaurants, entertainment (movies, bowling, etc.).  Also none of my family wants to travel for birthdays or holidays so we've all agreed on no Xmas presents or big meals this year, just Xmas cards and professional photos since that has been a dying tradition and most photographers are willing to give you the digital high-res copies as well now so you can distribute those and keep them in a nice archive.

 

That means Xmas budget opens up for some personal upgrades as well which is a silver lining to COVID I guess.

652 single threaded... um no.  Coffee Lake has to clock to 5.25GHz to get 630.  Single thread is even harder to push then multithread, so seeing the balance shift that way on new Ryzen chips is a smell.

Not so surprising since Zen 2 already has higher IPC than Comet Lake.

Liking the rumor mill for Zen 3. Looking forward to the announcement tomorrow.

This post has aged well.

 

AMD claims at least that CB20 ST is ~25% higher than the 3900X. 652 is, pretty much dead on, 25% higher than a 3900X. This is plausible.

Yeah, 5900x looks like a fun upgrade.  I was only planning to do a GPU upgrade but I might just do everything closer to the end of the year.

Definitely time to trade in my E5-1680V2 now and go 12-cores on the server.  Haven't ran an AMD CPU since Athlon XP 3200+.  And then there's choices now for desktop gaming builds.

I'm hoping to replace my dual Xeon E5-2670 system.  I can gain performance and save on electric.

My server compiles Gentoo packages regularly to distribute to network computers, so the faster single core will be handy in decompression and compression tasks too.

For compression and decompression zen2 did already really well do, but sure zen3 will blow it out of the water :-)

Gaming is really the only intensive thing I do. I'm thinking the 5800X will probably be what I end up with. Not sure if there is really an advantage going up to 12 cores for gaming. I guess the 5900X does have a higher boost.

 

Guess I'll wait and see the benches and go from there.

I actually have the same question.  I thought the 5900 was the 450$ one but I was off a level.  I don't really need a CPU as my 980ti is my real problem at 1440p 144hz but going all red seems kinda fun.

Yeah, my 980 (non Ti) can't handle 1440p so definitely looking mostly to upgrade that, but figure a new platform and DDR4 doesn't hurt either. My 4790k/DDR3/Z97 is running almost 6 years old now.
