MICHIGANADVANCE.COM

After 45 years of marriage, Richard Rohrer expected he and his wife, Melody Rohrer, would be one of those rare couples that would make it...

...wonder if Cooper avoids performances in Michigan.

Speaking of Cooper...

Funny thing is he doesn't seem to age.

...if anyone sold their soul at the crossroads, it was him.

^ I need to dust off my record player. I have a lot of good 70's vinyl. I have the Paranoid album War Pigs is on as well as the Schools Out Alice Cooper album that folds out into a little school desk.

As for what I'm listening to right meow...

Cooper and I go way back to the initial release of School's Out, which hit the airwaves April 26, 1972, just under four months before I left for what became a two decade long  trip  with the Air Force.

Some of the backstory associated with that I shared over in EHW's Channel on Discord; and I'll post a slightly modified version of it again here for anyone who might be curious:

Quote

Yeah, I was supposed to go to bootcamp with a good buddy of mine who I grew up with, but he couldn't pass the AFQT (he wasn't the brightest lamp in the room, but he--Demented Don Neimeth--often was the funniest). He went into the Marines instead and I almost followed him in, but after visiting a local Marine depot on Long Island and getting stared at with a glaring look from the time I walked in until the time I left, I decided against it.

I only recently learned that Don died back in June of 2021:

R.I.P. Don. 🫡

School's Out  ties in because I had signed up for Early Enlistment a few months before the song's release; and I was in a race to complete High School before I had to leave for basic training. I was 16 (17 by what the Air Force had), in the 11th grade, and needed one summer school class to graduate, which I managed to complete with flying colors (HS GPA 92.8%) the week before I had to leave. Got my Honor Regents diploma in the mail a number of months later.

Probably should have went to college instead, but I had to get away from what I considered a years long bad situation (mostly perceived, my own doing) that took a heavy toll on me as a kid.

Anyway, so much for confession. I'll Hail Mary 3x at a later date.

Here's School's Out:

So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from Hell
Blue skies from pain
Can you tell a green field
From a cold steel rail
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?

Did they get you to trade
Your heroes for ghosts
Hot ashes for trees
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change
Did you exchange
A walk on part in the war

For a lead role in a cage?

How I wish, how I wish you were here
We're just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl
Year after year
Running over the same old ground
What have we found?
The same old fears
Wish you were here

For those who've seen the West Wing episode associated with the following cover:

Quote

ABOUT THE SONG 16-year-old Brenda Spencer's attack injured eight children and killed two adults. In the hours after the incident, Spencer barricaded herself in her home, and during this time she told a reporter on the telephone that she had carried out the shooting because she didn't like Mondays.
