Before this next one, a backstory: a buddy of mine and I were listening to stoner fm radio back in the early 70s when everyone suspected anyone who listened to stoner fm radio of being stoned. Anyway, my buddy had a fairly elaborate hi fi system back then and we were zoning out in front of a pair of his huge Klipsch Horns--like those in the blown away ads they used to air--when all of a sudden it got really quiet. Then "The Dark" started playing in an intriguing sort of way, my buddy turned up the volume a bit, and we became captivated by it. By the time the narrator (Arch Oboler) was finished telling the story, we were totally mesmerized. Then, without warning, that clashing noise at the end (the loudest symbols possible) burst out of the speakers sounding like the volume had been turned up 1200%, perhaps by the dj who was playing the piece at the time.

All we could do was let out a couple of long drawn out loud "wowwwwwwwws."

I eventually moved on to other stuff, my buddy not so much. I came across his obit a few years back and learned he died in 2016. We had some good times together, but lost touch with each other when he shipped out to Thailand while I went to Spain.
