AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT “Big Navi” GPU Alleged 3DMark Benchmarks Leaked – Faster Than GeForce RTX 3080

Full Title: AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT “Big Navi” GPU Alleged 3DMark Benchmarks Leaked – Faster Than GeForce RTX 3080 at 4K, Slower In Port Royal Ray Tracing

Quote

Alleged performance benchmarks for the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT "Big Navi" graphics card have been leaked out. The numbers come from an AMD AIB partner who has mentioned to us that the performance metrics are based on an early engineering board and that they can further improve by the time the card launches.

Quote

The benchmarks for the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT "Big Navi GPU" graphics card we were shown include 3DMark Firestrike Ultra (4K), Time Spy Extreme (4K), and Port Royal Default (4K). Graphics performance charts that we happen to take a look at show the Radeon RX 6000 series "Big Navi GPU" graphics card being referred to as "E438". The card was compared to the GeForce RTX 3080 and the GeForce RTX 2080Ti graphics cards from NVIDIA.

So, if correct, Moore's Law is Dead leaks/rumors about Big Navi roughly matching Turing in RT seems to be about right. If true and the price is correct, this card's a winner. 6900XT should be a monster.

Not many 256-bit GPUs have been pushed beyond 300W.  Clocks, performance and power consumption leaks are indicating that AMD is making the best use of their node advantage over NVidia.  Why produce a complicated GPU when you can push more cycles through a simpler one?  Complete slap in the face to HBM.

How do you figure that?

AMD drivers are not the best.
Up until recently, when I purchased a 2070 and a 2070 max Q, I was an AMD user.

I started with Quadfire (4 x 4890XXX Black Edition), moved to crossfire (2 x 270x), and ended up with a single 280x.

I was plagued by driver issues for years.

This whole AMD FineWine (tm) is not my thing.

Since I moved to NVIDIA, everything just works.

Ok there Jensen....lol

Seriously though, I've ran a myriad of cards since ATI, nVidia, 3dfx; you name it, chances are I had one.

I have two AMD cards now; a 5700xt and a 5700. I experience NONE of the issues people were discussing. Over that past 7-8 years I've had 2x R9 290s, a 980 ti and 1080 ti and more recently the 5700 cards; one at work and one at home.

I've never really experienced any driver issues with any. I think the "AMD drivers suxor" is vastly overblown. Are AMD's software features up to nVidia's? Of course not. But it's nowhere near the problematic mess people talk about.

Of course, I'm perfectly willing to admit that I'm a sample size of one, but as you go off your experience, mine was completely different.

I used to run crossfire in the 1800 days when you needed a master cards lol.  Plus a handful up through the 5870s.  I never once had issues.  I won't discount others experiences but I never once suffered from bad amd drivers.

IME, when AMD drivers mess up, they REALLY mess up.  Mine have been solid for the most part, but there have been a few releases that never should have been released to the public.

Would be very exciting if this is accurate and the performance translated to gaming. Been a bit too long since we've had proper competition in the high end GPU market.

Anyway, about drivers. I've had plenty of AMD cards (and ATI) most recently a 7950, 6970, and crossfired 6850s. Never had an issue.

Never really had any major driver issues from either camp. The only times I have had gameplay issues was doing crossfired 5770's back in the day and I think that's more to multi-gpu just sucking in general. After that I just adopted the philosophy of buying the best possible single GPU solution that fit my needs/budget.

I will say this, Nvidia should probably update their control panel to not look like Windows XP anymore.?

Anyway, as long as they don't have the reported issues that seemed to be with the 5700 XT drivers when it launched, I'm ready to jump ship from Nvidia. That said, I am skeptical of the performance at 1440p and 4k on a 256-bit bus and am awaiting the benchmarks and understanding of the architecture.

It looks much better in Linux... And it still has overclocking built in.  Voltage adjustment is available too, but I currently have that disabled.

No thanks. Adrenalin is so much worse. Much worse UI than Nvidia's 2003-style list that just works. Similar to new steam library vs the much better old library.

I agree. So true. Plug an Nvidia card in, drag the sliders to the right, that's it. It just works whereas my AMD experience is as follows:

- Random driver crashes and restarts (R9 270X)

- Green artifacts in Chrome (RX 580)

- Black screens, drivers crashes, low GPU usage for no reason, random downclocking to 300 MHz for no reason (5700XT)

3 posts in a row really? AMD got you that mad? That logic i could claim Nvidia in the same light based on issues i had with their cards over the years. These days the whole "Drivers bad" argument sounds more like propaganda when targeting a brand. I mean look at your avatar with the RTX logo. Seriously though driver issues are not specific to one brand its bound to happen for all.

They always try to downplay the issues that actually exist in order to defend their precious brand. That's the only reason why they type that. People who actually have no issues don't spend their time on forums defending tech companies. They play games because everything works.

I'm currently on this forum, talking about how good AMD drivers have been to me, including on a 6850 crossfire setup almost 10 years ago. Is it because my 1080ti is so bad that I'm here and not playing games? Is it because my system isn't "just working?" It's more likely that I play games when I choose to play games and read tech forums when I choose to read tech forums. Your logic is awful.

By the way since you probably don't know me 4 years ago I was on record saying AMD was a lost cause and should sell to Samsung NOT because of their drivers, but because the hardware just didn't have the performance to keep up with Intel and Nvidia. That is not the case now and AMD has made a very good competitive case for themselves.

I think the only person here espousing brand loyalty is you.

...having used both QuadFire  and QuadSLI over the years, I guess my pain / sensitivity level to driver issues by either AMD or NVidia has been seriously numbed..."I'm not prejudice, I hate them all'  ?

However, It do think that AMD's recent management leadership in several market segments is a very good sign, bolstered by their succe$$. Never mind the control re. leaks and all that for the Ryzen 5K and Navi 6K, I am certain that AMD will pay a lot of attention / commit more resources for the driver team than in the past as they are aware of the criticisms. There might very well be some early driver issues with the upcoming GPU releases, but I do think that they will be addressed rather quickly - we'll see.

I am still not decided on RTX 3090 or AMD 6900 XT. This is made even more complicated by the announcement that most RTX 3K will switch to 7nm TSMC from 8nm Samsung - but at least we now have a genuine choice in the upper market segment....feels good !

The number of times I've had my Nvidia drivers crash out on me over the past 8 years since being on them...well it's not a lot, but it's more than I have had on previous Radeon cards. Girlfriend's machine regularly has Nvidia driver/Windows 10 crashes/issues.

Show me some general statistics on Nvidia vs AMD on driver issues and maybe this argument will have merit over "my experience vs your experience". Obviously Navi had issues. Nvidia has had their share too.

The only time I really had issues while driving Radeon cards was in crossfire and I just chalk that up to running multi-GPU sucks...either camp and at that point adopted a "buy highest end single GPU" that fits needs/budget philosophy.

Suffice to say...since I am not a launch buyer (ever), I will see how things go. As far as I am concerned, unless they really blow it, I'm sure AMD took what happened with Navi and worked to not repeat that. And not specifically drivers here, but didn't AIB 3080's just release with stability issues they had to do a BIOS update for? Neither brand is without faults.
