So, here's a little update on my main system.
Now running a 3950x with a Heatkiller IV Pro block, and still the same Heatkiller IV Strix block on the gpu.
Decided to change the inlet/outlet on the top radiator, this time the looks were a little less important than the ability to remove the cpu block without having to drain the whole system.
I also installed a drain on the lowest point of the cooling system, so now I don't have to remove any of the hoses.
And the biggest pain, although I flushed every part of the watercooling system when building it a few months ago like everyone advised it and using DP Ultra premix blue it still had some nasty stuff build up in almost every part of the loop. Had to disassemble the gpu block and clean it out by hand, same for the pump/res and most of the fittings/hoses. Flushed the radiators with the Mayhems Blitz kit, and that worked pretty good. Made sure everything was done the way they tell you to, and filled the system up with Mayhems Ultra pure h2o, biocide and inhibitor. Lets hope for a little less gunk this time ?

PS: the second system is filled with DP Ultra red, and no sign of any gunk in that system (all blocks are clear).

Wow that is looking sweet bud !

My WC build is very much built for purpose over looks. I actually during my recent WC remodel included taps at key points so I could isolate sections of the system if I was to change something out like a GPU for instance without the need to fully drain my system to make it safe to do so.

I also have a tap installed at the lowest point of the case which helps a bundle in draining, and safer than ripping tubes out and hoping for the best.

My system is ready to take my next GPU choice as part of the WC loop, will be one of the Nvidia 3000 series cards. 3080/3090.

Thanks :)

Next time if I build a custom loop, I'll invest more time into making it easier to drain or change parts.
The looks are high on my list, because I just love to roll my chair back, and enjoy the work I've done.

My idea is to get a 30xx at some point, but I'm kinda waiting to see which one will perform the best with F@H in mind.
And the waterblock availability is also important.

It would have been way easier if it was just a giant case with hardware in one section, and radiators and the reservoir/pumps in an other section. Having QDC's between every block and the rads and a door to shut so you don't see it ?

Yeah once I had worked with this loop a little, I quickly realised the areas for improvement and made them when I was re-configuring the loop for a second RAD to allow for the next GPU to become part of the loop also. Hindsight is a wonderful thing as they say.

Yeah looks are important, it is not like mine looks shabby but I have gone with safe EPDM tubing to make my life simple haha.

Yeah WC block availability is important. This time round I may just wait for the pre-blocked GPU's to come out and get one of them.

  • 3 weeks later...

Had to migrate my Corsair Air 540 build into a new case as the case was falling apart and very noticeable vibration noises were becoming worse and worse in the front panel. So went with a Lian Li O-11 Dynamic.

My old EK Supremacy Evo block is trashed as the plating completely failed and the fins were clogged with gunk of some sort. So I picked up a cheap Corsair block at Micro Center as a stop gap until I build a new rig next year and replaced all the tubing. Micro Center only had white tubing in my size, but I think it works. Cleaned out my EK TX 980 Strix block as well. Plating also failed there, but not as bad as the CPU block. Fins were still clear. Completely flushed the radiator and grabbed a new reservoir/pump. All that plating that failed was floating around in the loop. All better now.

Old PC (sorry blurry pic), and then the transfer. Will obviously get some bigger rads when I do the new build.

Personally I haven't been able to go back to AIOs or air since building my first loop in 2011 or 2012. The open loop bug bit me.

Same. I first got into water-cooling as a necessity in 2012. Where I lived at the time, we had no AC and the PC got far too hot and loud in the summer for me to be comfortable with.

Since then, I've become addicted to silent computing where I make the PC as silent as possible with water-cooling. New build next year will be dual 360 rads and will get rid of these noisy HDD's since SSD storage is cheap enough now. This D5 pump does a good job moving water even at low speeds where you can't hear it, so am happy about that.

I honestly don't see me ever going back to air.

Have been recycling this case for the last few builds. TT V50 I think it was

Haven't had any bother with the EK solid green colour residue or anything. Been using it for some years now

Cooling is pretty good with the EK Varders and runs a lot cooler since I removed the case grills and side panel for intake

420 and 360 radiators but looking upgrade to a new case that will take 2x420 rads when my 3080 Tuf arrives

I've had enough of 120mm fans and only interested in 140mm fans now. So much quieter and cooler :)

The ram cooler swings out of the way for testing other sticks without draining the loop

Does anyone have a suggestion for a new case that will take 2x420mm rads?

That looks pretty Sir Beregond!
I have the same kinda tubing in 2 systems, and I love it. It stands out from all the hardware and looks better than clear tubing in my cases.

Thanks! I really wasn't sure going in, but I really like it now. Also because I don't do any RGB or other lighting in my systems, it's fun to do cool color schemes. Toying with hard line tubing next build, I may just paint the tubes if I end up going that route (as I will use clear fluid).

Nice solution! Question, does RAM get hot, or is it more for the aesthetic?

Yeah I have found a lot of cases have very restrictive grills or meshes that quite noticeably affect temps and noise. Nice solution! When I first got into building and had a Corsair 650D, I remember having to cut out the front grill and it very much helped the restriction but more so the noise as well.

I'll have to see about 140mm fans and radiators when I build the new rig (and if they fit in this new case). Would love to increase radiator space and lower fan RPMs as a silence freak.

The ram definitely needs cooling when it's getting pushed

I like to keep the B-Die under 40°c for stability at low voltages without fans blasting on it

I have seen the odd person has pulled the chips off when peeling them, so that's a bit of a risk and not ideal ?

...very nice & brings me back to various quad GPU builds - those were the days....now, people shout at you if you show two instead of just one GPU in a system. Kudos for the pump setup and extra VRM fan ?

Got this radiator from @Avacado. For size comparison it's already the size of my HAF XB. Yes I'm tempted to just use it as a case lid :)

But I instead will try and build a mounting system with some aluminum angle.

Yay! Pictures. Glad it got there in one piece. I had bought it for an external setup at some point, so put it to good use! love it, love Acool rads, they are so sexy. I want to know how well it cools. Feed me stats.

Someday, I'll make it to the modern and cool watercooling club, but I'm not quite ready to give up the old and effective stuff I keep re-purposing. I just even ordered an am4 bracket for a heatkiller 3 lol.

I had to try the vertical mount out since I don't have anymore gpu's than what you see here.

Blitz kit or else I sometimes do a diluted white vinegar solution and then lots of flushing.
