Beyerdynamic DT990s are currently £96 on Amazon, 770s (the same thing but closed back) are £109. Sony MDR-7506/1 are excellent value for money as well, those are currently £81. In that price range as far as Sennheisers go, there's only really the HD280 Pros at about £110 or so.

Nice thanks, I will take a look at that list and see what I fancy !

I've had that set for a few years now and really like them. I think you will be happy with them.  Very comfortable with the velour ear pads, fit around the whole ear.  Very well rounded sound, enough low end without being to Bassy to drown out the mids or highs and not too bright for me. Cord is a little long and not detachable, but I only use them at my PC and have the cord cable routed to my desk.

Powering them with a Schiit stack Modi/Magni 3

Nice ! Always good to see a positive review :) In fact I like your stand as well, I need to get a stand for both headsets.

I'm somewhat of a budget headphone enthusiast, i've been using Superlux HD681-B's paired with a Fiio E7 since they came out. My other setup is another 681B + nobsound Q3

They've been great so far, only had one die on me due to an angry cat, and I also have a HD668-B i occasionally use with a Fiio uBTR. I use them with the velour pads since the faux leather gets really sweaty.

I've been looking around for a new budget headphone option, but i haven't really found anything that would be a proper "upgrade", without spending close to 100 euro or more.. at which point i'd rather buy another set of Superlux's for <30 eur.

If i had to make a list:

  • 2x Superlux HD681-B
  • Superlux HD668
  • Fiio E7
  • Nobsound Q3
  • Fiio uBTR
  • Apple earpods i got from my old job ?

I know that I'm probably 2 weeks late, but the only somewhat decent wireless headset is HyperX Cloud II Wireless, the rest that I've tried are sounding like generic crap at 20eur price tag...

I have 2 setups that I commonly use, one for the PC and one for my turntable.  Sometimes I swap around a bit though.

PC: Schiit Fulla 2 -> Sennheiser HD6XX

Turntable: Realistic LAB-440 -> Schiit Vali -> Sennheiser HD6XX

I also have the Sennheiser PC37X headset (I used to have HD598s so that seemed like a good move since they're the same) but the mic broke so I just got in a set of Sennheiser PC38X and honestly it's not worth the extra money.  It does have more bass though!

I have a Schiit Modi 2 for when I feel like using the Vali with my PC as well.

Using ODAC/O2 Amplifier.  I built the O2 Amplifier, I like DIY projects...

Currently using Senheiser 650's.  My ear pads are starting to wear out, any suggestions on good replacements?  I heard leather can change the sound profile....  I'd love some gel ear pads, but I do wonder if it'll mess up the sound.

Retired Senheiser 598's.

I also use a Mod-Mic 5.  I don't understand why any headphone designers make microphones that can't pop off when they bump stuff.  I could have broken that thing so many times...

Color me very, very impressed!

Threw together a Mainline myself a while back, but I certainly didn't have much to do with its design.

I didn't design it, that would be NwAvGuy who mysteriously disappeared some time after release.

That Mainline is really cool!

Anyway, did you build the O2 Amplifier using a preassembled kit, or did you purchase everything based on a BOM?

I got about 20% though the BOM and decided screw it, and just bought a kit.  A smarter man would have written a program to find all the parts.  Overall I'm not sure I saved much/anything from buying a pre-built, but it was fun to build.
