Our Team is about to be passed in 8.5 hours by TechPowerup! , maybe a few good Folders can delay or STOP this?

Recommended Posts

23 Sept 2025, 12:16

My PPD is at 133,567,069 in the last 24 Hr -- Where are all the other members?

LOOKs like We will get passed in 8.5 hours by TechPowerup!.....

Sigh, I can always switch a few Rigs off (or over to defend my "old Team & My # 17 position in the World") ............  if nobody else wants to help Defend our Rank of #34 of the Teams list

Besides everyone needs to dial in their Rigs for the sprint in a couple of days ..... Right?

Techpowerup is where a lot of our members went when the site was closing. I made an account over there but ultimately decided to fold for HardOCP instead. I came back to EHW when it was purchased and looked like things would go back to business as usual, but it's been a slow crawl getting people back into folding here.

I've been slowly replacing a lot of my GPUs with more power efficient RTX 40 and 50 series cards to be able to fold more.  However, most of the builds are still in progress since I'm an idiot and watercool everything.

THAT SAID... We ain't going down without a fight! I'm spinning up some hardware now.

This is about all I'm going to be able to manage without finishing a couple builds.

Thanks for the reply Fluxmaven

That is all I want, to put up "our best fight" & Not just rollover & "play dead"

One can hope enough members current & past would help keep EHW in their current position till after the upcoming Sprint .... then maybe we would get a little jump in points and hold steady for a week or two .... or at least till the end of September

I saw the participation in the 48 hr sprints & hoped maybe some of the members would find their way back

Sounds like you have a few new toys to play with, GL with the block & loop work

..... Now if everybody would just turn their Rigs on & fold  ..... Or looks like we get passed in another 4.5 hours

I would love to pitch in and help, but I'm terrified of this stupid 12VHPWR cable lol.  I don't have the money to replace my card if it fries.

I can fire up some other cards here soon though, like in a few weeks. 🙂

The EOC stats don't update very often so it's hard to tell where we really lie currently. Behind the scenes I've convinced another heavy hitter to fire up some hardware. So we might end up in a neck and neck brawl with TPU for a while.

Run with lower power limits. It's what I have to do or the house will burn down. I normally fold at 80% GPU clock.

Actually. I cranked it up a bit higher just now. 95% GPU clock speed and CPU limited to 75C on 20 cores. My water temp sensor * itself so I'm flying blind. I was going to replace that this week but I reckon I can wait a few days.

CPU Folding, it does not make much PPD & takes much more Watts & Heat

If you do not sharp bend, constantly remove or 1/2 way insert 12VHPWR cable .... You Should be fine.

I have been folding on three 4090s for a few years now, NO Issues. I leave my adapter plugged into the card, I only remove the power cables from the adapter.  I use zip ties or Velcro (wraps)  to "hold the adapter & power cables where I want them"

I've got a Gigabyte Gaming OC 4090 that needs a repast (to keep it from overheating).... I have the supplies PTM & all, just have not gotten to it; but that is another story

So running 24/7 in "limp mode" with the following settings in a 75 F part of my house .... (20M to 30M PPD, depends on the WU)

Nvidia driver 566.03

Current WU @ GPU = 2745 MHz, Mem = 10451, mV =1075, Temp = 56C with Fans @ 100% open test bech (old SOHO gutted case)
Core V @ 85%

Core Clock @ +125

Mem Clock +200

Power Limit @ 85%

Temp Limit @ 88

@pio stop being a wimp 🤣 The Radeon AI PRO R9700 is only a 300w card. They also have the power connector at the rear of the card so no issues with a tight bend against the side panel.

Really the only cards I'd be concerned about at all are 4090 and 5090's and only if you're pushing them pretty hard.

The card I've had the longest with a 12VHPWR is my 4070 TI I got a week after launch and it's been plugged in at least a dozen times in half a dozen systems. Using the included adapter or dedicated 12VHPWR cables with no issues at all.

I've run everything full bore for extended periods of time, but lately I undervolt everything just to minimize heat dumped into the room. I'd be curious to see what sort of PPD the AI Pro does stock and with a decent undervolt. My 6950XT sucked in general for folding, but at least didn't lose much even with a pretty significant UV. Being Mr. AyyyMD, you'll probably be sad to hear that I have retired that card and am now fully team green for the fleet of things that actually get used every day.

41% of the TPU ppd is former folders from EHW that never made it back after the transition. Another huge chunk is one former EVGA folder. We have always been on good terms with both of those teams.

"Joe" is a good egg; I remember when he was just cutting his teeth on power folding on EVGA; we chatted quite a lot.

I tried to get him over here on EHW when leaving EVGA; but then this site had also gotten bumpy.  He seems happy at TPU, I'm happy for him.

Besides I've more than canceled his PPD on TPU 😉

I'm just putting on the good fight for as long as I can.

I have plans to sell more of my 3080Ti FTW3 cards & mostly just use the (3) 4090 cards for Folding.

The 5090 GPUs are a swing & a miss IMO ..... I'm done buying more GPUs just for Folding.

Maybe if Nvidia can produce a great card that uses less energy & doubles the output .... (fond memories of the 1080 Ti & how energy effective it was with a huge processing jump from previous GPU designs)

They're ABSOLUTELY binned better than 9070 XT's.  Not sure if that's true for folding.

Guess we'll find out during the next challenge I guess, huh?  I'll have to get my 7900 XTX going too for the fun of it, maybe my 6950XT if I can find enough power around here to run that many cards at once.  🤣

Shame you retired your 6950, good card.  As far as folding goes, I think my 6900 XT last time I ran it was doing okay numbers (for an AMD card).  It wasn't too far behind my 7900 XTX.

Remember, last time I ran folding it took like 3-4 of my AMD cards to equal your one damn 4070Ti.  🤣  This is why I don't like to run them very often for folding.

Yes, you actually need to fold next time.

The 6950XT was originally purchased so I had a modern AMD card for reviews... Back when I thought I'd be doing more of those. Sat on the shelf most of the time I've owned it.

Still a good card and I'll find something to do with it. The 5070 Ti just fits my needs better for that system.
