Older GPU prices going up substantially on newegg

Recommended Posts

I noticed this recent price hike. I haven't seen any news about it yet though so no article to share other than the direct source which is newegg. Was hoping the older cards would drop in price but it looks like supply/demand has gotten so bad that prices are going up on all semi modern GPUs.

I'm starting to wonder if I'm going to have to keep using my 1080Ti for another 2 years.

As mentioned before, Europe (never mind Asia) seem to be slightly better off re. availability / pricing on RTX 3K than N America (I check N.American and European retailer sites almost every day).

For now though I am really, really happy that I kept my two factory-w-cooled 2080 Tis

yeah, I think I got lucky when I found my buddy a zotac gtx 1060 AMP! edition that was refurbed on their site on ebay a couple months ago for around $170 after taxes and shipping. Now used 1's are listing @ $240 & up in the by now section, and new 1's are listing for $349.99? People will try to make as much as they can when there's a shortage.

Given how crazy the market is, I've actually started thinking about buying a second 1080Ti used. Even though they say SLI support is dying, it seems like it still works pretty well for the bigger more demanding titles.

The 1080Ti is by no means a bad GPU, it's still more than capable for 4K as well as VR. The only thing it's really lacking is real time ray tracing at a decent frame rate.

Tell that to MSFS2020 and Cyberpunk.

Actually the game I would like to get higher performance in the most is Ghost Recon Wildlands. An extremely underrated game but also one with lots of performance issues.

With the scarcity of anything else to upgrade to, this is no surprise and just sucks for all involved to be honest.

If you visit the link and Click "Sold by NewEgg"  Those are third parties sellers.  Newegg only has a Refurbished MSI RTX 2080 Super in stock for $749.99.

This guy gets it. It's no different than Amazon. They allow third-party venders, yet they don't enforce price gouging policies. It's frustrating that Newegg has devolved so much. It would be nice if they put something to more clearly identify that they don't have the item. For example "3RD PARTY OFFER".

Ahh I see. When I looked just now, newegg is completely sold out of the 2000 series and RX5000 series cards so 3rd party sellers are the only option.

Up here in the Great White North, prices for RTX 3090s and/or AMD 6900 XT aren't actually too bad (depending if the maker imports them directly into Canada from Asia = no-tariff, or via the US = tariff) but it's just a trickle, just a handful of cards per week for a national chain.

I don't see the underlying general situation improve quickly at the global level - too many factors impacting at once ?

...fortunately, we have enough toilet paper and reasonably modern GPUs to last the year in our household (not that the two are interchangeable) ?

Clearly, the mess in the semiconductor industry and its supply lines is not only affecting our beloved gaming and productivity GPUs/CPUs...

My Microcenter doesn't have squat.

The newest AMD GPU in stock is a Visiontek Radeon RX 560, which they have 2 in stock.  For Nvidia they have 2 ASUS GeForce GT 1030. Oh my bad they do have 2 PNY Quadro RTX 4000

Oh trust me I know. This was stock prior to today. Looks like they got one 5700XT left at the moment.

...our national retailer actually has a '''flood''' of 3090s in today (for a few moments ?) ...a total of about 11 units spread across three models (not one of which I like) available not online, but only in stores that are physically spread apart by over 4300km (driving in the Canadian winter). I'll get right on that ? ..cue 'Radar love

Premium Platinum - Lifetime

Haven't posted anything over here in a while (been busy with certain esoteric aspects of my projects--see a small sample of them below), but as J7SC already knows thanks to his participation in the ban thread over on the other forum, I'm down to no. 7 on the "unofficial" EVGA 3090 KPE notification list. I should have the opportunity to purchase one during the next drop EVGA makes of the KPE, which could be this week or a month from now.

It's not going to get better. As an OEM where I work we get priority over individual resellers (newegg) and if you want to buy a system with a 3xxx card the backlog is getting to be longer and longer.  it MIGHT get back to normal by 2022.

way too mu

Really wanted to upgrade when Cyberpunk came out as DX12 doesnt support SLi and almost no devs care about Explicit Multi-GPU. My dual 980ti's are awesome but they are definitely struggling at 1440p when forced solo. I just wish my Kingpin models could overclock just a bit more, 900 series was really tapped out on launch basically. If i could find a reasonable used 1080ti or 2080/ti id do that but ive a feeling im just better waiting another year for the 4000 series or something. Who knows.

Some DX12 apps DO support SLI, even SLI-CFR (YT below), but others obviously don't. FYI, I did have SLI-CFR '''working''' briefly in Cuberpunk 2077 / 4K/RTX Ultra as well, but as soon as I tried to change graphics settings, it crashed (CFR fine w/ some other apps, though). With the current shortages of top-end GPUs, better support of SLI in general by devs would have helped a lot of folks out. My 2080 Tis are still plenty for the 4K/ 70Hz DSP monitor I use, but I prefer SLI (CFR or otherwise) wherever possible.

@iamjanco  ...KPE 3090 / 520 W = great fun !
