The Folding Rigs of EHW - Post Your Rigs!

BWG

Recommended Posts

I am very proud of the group of people we have participating in folding for EHW, so I thought I'd turn this into something more I can make easier to find, The Folding Rigs of EHW! ? Folding is intense, and there may be a few really nicely done PC's contributing, so it should be interesting.

When you post pictures, and then update your rig in another post, I will add that post to the list of versions. That will show the progression of your rigs. Be sure to list all of your specs in your first post, and along the way as you change things.

Nice setup. I don't CPU fold either. You've seen most of these.

Main rig in the office. Backup folder/miner and arguably nicer than my main. And the 2 open air problem children.

Hope you like laughing at ghetto/redneck rigs... my case is over a decade old and been reused to the point it's got more holes in it than swiss cheese... but they all serve a purpose even if for just air... the reason I don't change it has to do with air flow... this thing has great airflow and is quiet. ... anyway specs are :

3900x... I do use this for folding, get 250k to 350k ppd depending on the power limit I set.

5700xt Gigabyte gaming OC version

32GB 3200Mhz Gskill flare x cas 14

Mainboard is an old reused B350 TUF, originally paired with a 1700 cpu... even I can't believe it's holding up as well as it does, but I can OC to all core 4.3ghz with no problem so... not bothering to upgrade it just yet.

as for storage... well... a 970 evo 250GB nvme for the boot drive, a PNY XLR8 2TB nvme steam drive then 1 of each 2TB, 4TB and 8TB spinning drives... (this is my media server with all my home videos and youtube stuff on it)

Ok, now for the ugly mess of a PC.. oh, the PC's name is Minotaur... so if you are wondering about all the minotaurs... that's why.

Most of what I have online at the moment, due to shortage of enough parts to go around for all my junk, and current pricing making me not want to buy other junk just yet.

2x 6 core Haswell Xeons
2x 12 core / 24 thread Haswell Xeons (24 c / 48t total)

Not pictured:
Another server build I threw together with spare junk, a 16 core / 32 thread Broadwell Xeon with an RX580 8GB.

I might get my Ryzen 3600 / RX 580 rig up in the next day or so.

Most of my points are coming from my daily rigs that I don't yet have final pics for since I've been waiting on some sleeved cables for a couple months now, but my dedicated folding rig is detailed here:

I’m basically running the same thing as @Minotaurtoobut I’m using his old 2700x but here’s the full setup, Minos may have more holes than Swiss cheese but non of his are as big as mine, normally I have the sides on but for this I pulled them for “cooling”

@Imports_R32 may be a bit warm on the CPU, but nothing unexpected with that cooler... Your vrm temps are good considering the crowd of wires in that case... And gpu temps are pretty normal for that card... Don't compare your temps to mine, they are not normally as low as mine are... Rather compare to others with air cooling and I think you'll feel better... Until you put that side panel on ?... Then the ? heat is on.

Yeah no kidding, I had a crash around 2:30 had to restart but I’m not sure if it was heat or the oc

Betting gpu crash... That card wasn't stable enough at 2150mhz as I recall... You might could turn the fans up to hair dryer and make it stable.... I don't even have mine oc'd at the moment... Just power limit maxed out...

I’ll do that before I go to bed tonight, but it was a full shutdown crash

Interesting... May not be gpu then... But, still it's a possibility... Folding isn't easy on hardware ?

Still got work to do, but I split up the SLI, and reassembled both loops today. Not the greatest, need some things, but coming along. Supremacy Evo will move to the 1700x to replace tha janky xspc intel/am4 combobulation that actually kept load temps at 40c on p95 lol. Heatkiller IV Pro into the 5800x.

So, all I see here is empty slots! Gonna need some more GPU's. I had to give the vertical mount a whirl.

I have a lot of cables on that ancient psu, how ironic! LanBoy needs cables routed now. But, I'm going to put that new PSU to use.

  • 2 weeks later...

How did I miss this one, I like looking at all those different builds!

I have a few systems, but not a single one is done. Main reason is that I keep switching everything between the systems.

Sorry for the phone quality pictures..

The main system is waiting for a GPU waterblock, I'd like to put a Watercool Heatkiller on there.

That's why there is a cable tie around the tubes and a threaded pipe between those fittings, it's been like that for a few months now though :classic_rolleyes:

20210312_214301res.thumb.jpg.7ff08bc0d2416efc321e868ae7e3238d.jpg

The second system, or "H@F 932". So much in there the waterpump doesn't fit anymore :classic_laugh:

20210219_170143res.thumb.jpg.5acfbfee18d0008317c1ea9c361b5f10.jpg

The third system, or "The Office" is the system I like the most.

The small fan is there to support the GPU and the cables are a bit messy after switching hardware for a few times.

226699725_theofficefront.thumb.jpg.c7b4cff5a089f474d314ba890b2eece4.jpg

The fourth system, or "The Office V2.1" has been running for a few hours, mostly testing and just started folding on those 16xx cards.

So don't mind the cable mess inside that CM690, it won't be running for long like this.

The GPU's from "H@F 932", "The Office" and "The Office V2.1" will go into one big system to make things easier with the mobo/cpu/memory from V2.1.

I'm looking forward to that project!
