  1. Since it is all academic anyhow (re. general availability), I am waiting to see what the 6900 XT can do vs. the RTX 3090. Like others here, I suspect the 6900 XT will be a monster on apps that don't use RTX, and I also still wonder about VRAM bandwidth at 4K (even with Infinity Cache). As to Radeon 6K alleviating excess demand for RTX 3K, they both seem to be in tight supply (foundries' bookings ? / yields ?) and both facing an unexpected extra demand, courtesy of Covid-19...a lot of folks working from home, Zooming and doing other modern office-type functions realized that their 'ancient' desktop that worked fine for email and browsing wasn't up to do much more on productivity and gaming. Perhaps they finally appreciate all the upgrades their IT dep't had done over the years at their (formerly) regular work place ? Other folks who appreciate shiny new GPUs are apparently coin miners, allegedly doing bulk deals with NVidia directly on big chunks of RTX 3K output...
  2. I can appreciate that ! ? ...same on my main machine (5x XSPC RX360s, 4x D5s)
  3. ...very nice & brings me back to various quad GPU builds - those were the days....now, people shout at you if you show two instead of just one GPU in a system. Kudos for the pump setup and extra VRM fan ?
  4. ...fyi, after setting this build question aside for two weeks, I decided on building...both ? The 4790K will run some development code on MS Server, while the 3770K will be used as a guinea pig for different Linux packages.
  5. ...yet another mandatory MS FS 2020 patch (around 13 GB in total) ? ...so far, all 'updates and/or patches' are mandatory for MS FS 2020 ? Microsoft really should learn not to barge into people's free time at their own home and let them decide when to install updates, instead of this 'mommy knows best' attitude...
  6. ...may Vulkan live long and prosper. Also, someone talk Microsoft into adding Vulkan API support for FlightSim2020 ?
  7. ...as somewhat expected, Firestrike Ultra (4K) showed a slightly different result (4th overall) by the same competitor with the 6800 XT...still an incredible result at 2800 MHz, though. But somewhere between 1440 and 4K, the relatively narrow 256 bit memory bus starts to play a role for the Radeon 6K. For anything less than 4K, the Radeon 6K seems to be a very interesting choice. Also, the 6900 XT results are getting closer...should be interesting !
  8. ...or @ENTERPRISE could start selling cute kitten vids on the side to raise extra SSD monies...I understand he likes that sort of kitten thing... Anyway, what with Covid-19 travel and other restrictions, I am sure glad there's my MS FS 2020, always ready to fly me anywhere on earth
  9. Alternatively, we could try to talk @ENTERPRISE into a 'EHW power giveaway' of a bundle of 20 of these 100 TB SSDs for a 2 petabyte 'MS FS 2020 home server'. They're only US$ 40k a piece, and he might get a volume discount...
  10. ...the caches are really, really helpful, but there are (rarer) limitations at the Azure MS FS 2020 server side. For example, if you fly around a really remote area with structures such as mountains that has very little air traffic, you'll notice a lot more 'tiles filling in' as you go compared to a new flight to a new region (for your system), but one which other folks seem to have crossed multiple times already. I'm speculating, but figure it must be Azure servers looking for less-often called-up bits from their multi-petabyte global map. I noticed this when I flew to the South Pole, as well as the Arctic...
  11. ...the same chap now posted 'Firestrike Extreme' today with his 6800XT...also 1st place at HWBot, but with a reduced margin over 3090 (both on LN2). I guess 'Firestrike Ultra' (4K) might be telling if/when he runs/posts that...
