  1. I can see myself building a nice all-AMD project for the first time ever.... For example, Zen 3 5950X (or even TR version later in '21), lots of fast RAM and possibly 2x 6900 XT GPUs (depending what AMD does w/ mGPU). All that in a nice TT Core P5 or P7...all w-cooled of course....no more Itchy & Scratchy for a bit BTW, not sure if this has been shared already, but Computerbase.de managed to capture these Passmark results before they were removed again (don't forget the salt, just in case..)
  2. ^^^glad you like the Canadian customer service detail; next time, they might send you some Poutine ? Those 2x MORA 3-420s give me an idea...they could make ideal wing replacements for a TT Core P7 build project I'm contemplating for next year...got to check rad dimensions to be sure
  3. ...'the problem is' that I like building unusual computer projects as much as use them, and I'm getting the 'new project itch' ? For both 4K gaming and some productivity tasks, my 2950X / 64GB / 2x 2080 Ti doesn't need any upgrades, not least with the unique UMA / NUMA options the 2950X has. On the other hand, I use several machines in my home and office anyway, and I could bump a few older X79 / 6c/12t to server and/or backup / nas status - I always seem to find more tasks & room for new builds ? Also, I have extra sets of fast GSkill DDR4 in reserve I could use, ditto for high-end PSUs. ...put differently though, there's no real hurry to line up and 'be first' with latest GPUs and CPUs - I like to see what shakes out over the next few months re. trusted 3rd-party reviews and extensive testing, driver updates, genuine availability / pricing etc. That said, the 5950X looks mighty (per admittedly early info) and very capable to do both productivity and gaming very well
  4. ...that ? calls for counter-measures ? ...
  5. I am seriously thinking about a 5950X / 64 GB build project early in the new year - and hopefully soon, I might even figure out which GPU(s) to add. The 16C/32T 5950X with lots of fast RAM and its IPC improvements strikes me as the perfect all-rounder for both productivity and games.
  6. ...just a hunch, but I think AMD / big Navi might pleasantly surprise a lot of folks. 'News' and leaks were very tied down this time (first real performance leaks just a few days ago), as was advanced marketing hype by AMD...sounds like Lisa Su really put a control lid on it. I think they're very serious about 'pulling another Ryzen' surprise, but this time with NVidia in their cross-hairs. With that in mind, NVidia seems to feel the need to accelerate its TSMC 7nm conversion, even if it delays the 3080 / 20 GB and 3070 / 16 GB
  7. Soooo banned ! Mr. Grit - all 19 hands 3 of him - is a working horse and in perfect shape, I have you know ! Also, your idea of shooting mice into space is a bad one; Laika the space dog has endured enough already, w/o more space junk plugging up the view... ...and also ban me for posting cute kitten YT
  8. Hopefully, AMD's engineers are smart and read mGPU CFR stuff at EHW ? - no microstutter w/ CFR..."I want my MtvGPU"
  9. ...dissenting vote re. kitties by Mr. Grit (center, 2500 pound Percheron and a close friend of mine)...but rocket piggies should be banned
  10. ......views were superb, in fact, I think I might have flown over your backyard...(greetings from the bandom thread)
  11. It makes perfect sense to wait until earlyish 2021 (it must be perfect coz that's what I'm planning to do ? ). AMD's 6000 series (6800, 6900) looks really interesting - and if they can get their drivers sorted / matured, so much the better. In fact, I hope they'll bring out a dual GPU / single PCB card again...we had a 7990 in the office back in the day, and it was a compute / render monster for the standards at the time. A nice, dual 6900 big Navi - hmmm, yummy. Of course, it will be pulling a gazillion watts, but I reside in an area where 97% of our power is renewable (hydro). Personally, I also hope to see the Manhattan project will run two of those dual GPU '6999' to live up to its name ! As to NVidia RTX 3K and 'Quadro equivalent', there seems to have been a change in plans re. 'early' switch-over to TSMC 7nm, good for them - bad for early RTX 3090 Samsung 8nm adopters . All we need now is Intel to hurry it up with its tile Xe mGPU, and then the higher-end / pro-sumer market has some real competition it lacked for so long...
  12. You might have already covered that but have you figured out what GPU(s) to use, or do you plan to mount a temporary one until AMD, NV (& Intel Xe?) spring their latest workstation/prosumer offerings ? BTW, AMD 6800 looks very good ...and AMD 6900 might be mega...
  13. How about a quick trip to London ? (4K png converted to jpg...best viewing with 'open in new tab') Leaving Haethrow...check out that puny A380 compared to my bird... Order ! Order !! ORDER !!! ...so that's how that bridge looks like from the bottom... ...time to visit the O2... ...time for a night flight back...switched to s.th. a bit faster ?
  14. banned...coz, after sweet small children and cuddly, fluffy pandas, who is left to ban ?
  15. ^nice ! ...per above YT clips I posted (GTX 1070 / 1080p), it is certainly possible to play at lower resolutions and with older hardware. However, per original post, I wanted to focus, albeit not exclusively, on '4K Ultra / dense objects settings and SLI - CFR' in this thread...basically max on what is possible, including in low flights Speaking of 'dense object' settings in MS FS 2020, I will probably dial back car traffic (which moves, has headlights at night etc) a bit...highways are getting crowded...and I already showed 'too much' ship traffic ?
  16. ...how about some cute & cuddly Pandas instead ? I dare you to ban those ...
  17. Even with 1080 max/ultra, anything below a GTX 1660 is probably going to be a bit frustrating in MS FS 2020...here's a relative comparison of GPUs in RDR2 (Guru3D) and MS FS 2020 (HardwareUnboxed) in 1080p max/ultra, providing some generalized 'guide posts'. ...Worth keeping in mind though that for a sim like MS FS 2020 (rather than a 'fps game'), slightly lower average fps are acceptable, as long as it is at least 24 fps - 30 fps ....and here is a quick 'sweet revenge' screenie I took earlier...flying underneath the same bridge I got stuck on earlier (in rush hour, in the real world) ?
  18. Also looking forward to the finished product photos ! Just make sure the neighbours don't get the wrong idea ?
  19. 4790K > 4.7 Ghz (never mind 6700K > 4.7 Ghz) should work fine even at 4K...I have both still running in other systems, and MS FS 2020 doesn't use many threads, so high-clock 4C (4T/8T) unlikely to be a big issue, though cache size also matters. Also, 32GB of decent clocked-&-timed RAM is really helpful with MS FS 2020
  20. ...1070 you say ? Check this out, GTX 1070 - 1080p : ...and this... ...in my case, having a dual 2080 Ti setup already on a 40 inch 4k monitor (I probably sit too close to), I obviously wanted to 'max ultra' everything. Besides, 4K Ultra helps to 'mask' TR HEDT lower clock performance
  21. Yeah, comes down to a variety of factors...but the liquid used (and its multi-metal rating) is a major one. I even think this kind of rebuild / refill would work well for folks who bought the Enermax TR4 AIO which had one of the best designs (cold-plate) but a big quality problem re. gumming/'gunking' up...
  22. You won't regret it...other than may be re. your monthly electricity bill ? ...It is one of the trickiest apps I have ever set up (including when compared to HWBot quad-SLI), given that all your system components have to be tuned to work in unison for best results w/ MS FS 2020. But once you have it set up for the sweet-spot, especially on a large 4K monitor, it is breathtaking in many ways...MS FS 2020 is educational, skill-requiring / challenging and great fun all at once, depending what flights / planes you choose... Be that in a 747 banking in over a metro area... ...or a quick visit to Mt. Everest on a run-way too short for the plane you chose to go high, fast... But I always gravitate back to flights in that little Icon A5 as it allows me to explore the W.Coast of BC where I live...in the parts further North from here, it looks like a mix of the Norwegian and New Zealand. ...the Icon A5 is slow and has a limited altitude ceiling, but it can land pretty much anywhere ?
