  1. ...this might '''fit''' on a modded TT Core P5, P7 or so...I already Dremel-modded my Core P5 to accept an extra-longish eATX (MSI X399 Creation) and there's still some room at the right side, and below...just send me the Asus WERX80 (please don't forget the 3995WX TR-Pro) and I'll prove it to you ? ? I'll provide a new Dremel and cutting wheels...
  2. ...'good news' > here ...looks like TR Pros are getting out into the wild after all. Apparently, Lenovo had a time-limited exclusive in return for all the workstation app validation, but check out those other new WRX80 TR Pro mobos coming out...the Asus and perhaps the Gigabyte might also not disappoint re. bios options for, ahem, '''tuning''' ? ...what I find most interesting about the TR Pros is a.) 8 channel RAM and b.) huge range of RAM genre and up to 2 TB size...and the new boards also include U.2, 2x 10 GB Lan and other goodies such as a 'gazillion' PCIe 4, along with a stout VRM (you know, for '''tuning''' ? )
  3. Nice ! What mobo are you going to plug that into ? Alo keep an ey on new Agesa bios by mobo manufacturers, rumour has InFin at 2000 +
  4. ...covers / "armor" are probably both metal and plastic bits...the CES '19 introduced original of this genre (afaik) was the Aorus Z390 Waterforce (pic below) which also had an option for an included 5+ GHz binned 9900K... ...as to the new Z590 mobos, also given the pricing, they still do not include enough CPU to PCIe lanes for the type of builds I usually do ? ...'HEDT or bust' at these price points
  5. What shocks me also are the 'rumoured' prices for these top-end Z590 mobos ! US$ 1,000 ++ ? I would rather get a mid-range X570 w/ strong VRM and RAM capabilities (including the latest Agesa improvements for IF etc) for less than half that...For US$ 1,000+, I want a top-end HEDT mobo with all the features. Prices really have gone 'nuts' for PC components lately. I am glad I upgraded my main systems two years ago...and as I use them for productivity as well, I have a brand new HEDT board and RAM 'in reserve'.
  6. Gamers Nexus just released a vid covering the incoming WRX boards in a bit more detail...?
  7. I ripped my X-Files on S-VHS ? - 400 lines of horizontal resolution - WOW. On the other hand, 400 lines of resolution these days are sort of like...
  8. Unless ownership changed more recently, caseking.de aquired Overclockers many moons ago. Between the two's volumes, they should get the attention of vendor account execs. Also, some (CPU + GPU) supply is apparently being re-routed to the benefit of Asia and Europe due to tariffs by the US (and recently expired exemptions)...
  9. The 'on again, off again' 3080 Ti seems to be like a cat with nine lives...
  10. Noticed several retailers in EU have at least some 5900, 5950 but they also seem to move very quickly out the door...still a demand / supply imbalance
  11. "Stepping out of its supposed 'exclusivity deal' with Lenovo, who had the first rights to Threadripper Pro in the ThinkStation P620, motherboard vendors have started showing off some of its WRX80 motherboard models designed for AMD's Ryzen Threadripper Pro processors. Some of the benefits of the new platform over standard Threadripper include eight-channel memory and up to 128 x PCIe 4.0 lanes, which is double that of the non-Pro variants. While this sounds like EPYC, it sits between the two with only 2 TB DRAM support. It's time to showcase what we know, including three new models based on the WRX80 chipset." SOURCE If you like hi-po workstations, this is great news - and some of these boards even look great...perfect for your 4x 3090 w-cool build ! While dreaming in Technicolor, why not add two of the latest Intel P5800X Optane PCIe 4.0 drives to those dedicated U.2 ports you see on the mobos ? Supermicro: Asus Gigabyte
  12. I was up 'in person' on Cypress Mountain (very close to Vancouver) yesterday morning. It is so nice to use FS2020 to explore areas I know but in much more detail and wider range. With snow, flying got difficult - I had to stay real low, though at higher elevation, things improved. I even got to see a rare double rain/snowbow ? At the end of the flight, windshield, wings and control surfaces were all iced up...
  13. ...glasshouse ? Didn't the GIGABYTE Z390 AORUS XTREME WATERFORCE LGA 1151 (full block) mobo precede the ASRock versions ? That said, for current/next gen, the Asus Glacial really is reminiscent of the ASRock...
  14. 5.6 giggles was the peering-over-the-edge absolute max. This CPU's voltage "wall" is just past 5.5 giggles. BTW, I actually did run that single-phase cooler a fair amount back in the day, including for gaming, not least as 96% of our power here in BC is 'renewable' (hydro) and relatively inexpensive. But then I got into HEDT and a single phase cooler's transient response is just not fast enough for those, even with 350W heat dissipation capability. Speaking of phase coolers, DerBauer just got a nice (huge) two-phase cascade for CPU and/or GPU...up to - 110 C. I wouldn't want to plug that into a normal wall outlet, nor listen to it for long. Still, that's quite s.th. if you have the space and power grid for it
  15. This is not exactly the same, but still sheds some light on enabling (and disabling) chiplets. The two-chiplet 2950X (16C/32T) Threadripper in one of my machines has a unique option the four-chiplet 2990WX (32C/64T) doesn't have: default UMA and non-default NUMA modes. While the latter doesn't exactly turn one of the two chiplets completely on or off, it still shifts the priority heavily to one chiplet and its associated RAM with much tighter latencies, and higher core use profiles. Case in point is Cyberpunk 2077 below (fyi, run at 4K which stresses the CPU relatively less than for example 1080p), with same settings and scenes. End result is higher performance in some apps, including for example 3DM Port Royal. Point is: It's good to be able to choose chiplet engagement and priority. Of course with the OP, I'm now wondering whether the two extra 'dummy' chiplets in the 2950X are actually just real chiplets that didn't make the binning cut, slumbering away underneath the IHS for the past two years...?
  16. No doubt that Win 10 is overall a better OS (including security, depending how one defines 'big data snooping'). By coincidence, my two Win 7 machines had two Windows Updates just yesterday...as suggested before, I think those Win 7 updates now would only be for serious security issues. My Win 10 updated as well, but seems like it is Win 10's fav past time anyways.
  17. ...yeah, that's why I wrote 'if MSI's performance claims hold'. Obviously, this is (virtual) CES 2021 marketing, not solid real world testing. Still, per linked article 'NAND used is TLC (3-bits per cell), and MSI will offer up to 4 TB versions'. Time for @ENTERPRISE/ EHW to secure some for extensive testing !
  18. ...still very solid indeed, per Cinebench R20 results below from various runs I did early last year (note that the 3770K did not have 5.2 giggles single core in that table). My 4790K was also from that special batch and would do 5.2 GHz on water.. ...with a single phase cooler and at just below 1.4v, it would do 5.4 GHz - 5.5 GHz...come to think of it, I still have that single phase cooler (about - 50 C) ?
  19. ...this makes me feel like a dog staring at a plate full of TLC bacon ! My current fav is the recently-announced Intel Optane P5800X (PCIe 4, U.2), but if MSI's similar performance claims hold, lots of money to be saved to buy more bacon ?
  20. ...yeah ! ? I'm running G.Skill TridentX F3-2666C11Q-16GTXD (before RAM oc) on that setup
  21. One thing is for sure, TSMC will be real busy for a while ! I am also wondering whether Intel will actually release a 2-tile Xe consumer GPU in 2021, though the 4-tile is unlikely for consumers this year, IMO. Below is a little tile collage > ? of recent "news" stories - best taken in with salt - on this complementing the original post above...and also per earlier threads on Intel Xe, it would be sooooo nice if there will be a 3rd real competitor for higher-end GPUs. Hopefully, it won't be an 'out-of-stock, out-of-stock, out-of-stock' launch...
  22. Looks great ! I love night flying in Flight Simulator 2020 (here close to Denali, Alaska)
